I just asked Brett if he received mine, and he has. I will still have to wait longer, because I opted for VOS and told him to wait until he receives the sticker before sending mine.

yes, we have received your PC and should be shipping later today.

Japan post is open 365 days (we are not closed for Obon either),
it's Sony who takes a break (not effecting your order now), so there
    will be no delays now.

    I'll have an update soon.

    regards,
    -Brett

does anyone know how long ems takes to ship? is it 3-4 days? Also do they deliver on the weekends?? I dont want it to come on a saturday because no one will be home on that day... so if they ship it tokyo tuesday and would take 4 days meaning its saturday tokyo time... would it be friday us time that I will receive it??

And I am very surprised that they received it very quick =D I guess everyone worked extra hard to meet most of the demands at sony before going to vacation =)

Does anyone know if this means it's already through customs?
Edit: I think it does, according to dutch site DHL.

It depends on country and customs department. All I know is that up to several of my former colleagues have experienced nitpicky customs officers in Holland, including the airport customs.

i just received my vaio tz!! its so small! way smaller than I had imagined.. but I honestly think the screen is not as bright as the macbook pro. Led is nice but it seems 3-4 notches dimmer on the tz compared to my macbook pro that's the only disappointment, but other than that this laptop is a beauty!!

after playing with this tz man, the screen is gorgeous!! I put it side by side next to the macbook pro and even though the macbook pro is a bit brighter, the tz screen blows it away =D I'm even considering selling my mbp just to use this as my only laptop =) Very impressive!!

    Congratulations with your new TZ.

But Jesus Christ, calm down jjahshik32.

I just received my TZ90 from Dynamism. It took a month, but it finally arrived. I ordered the 100gb w/ DVD. So far I was actually impressed with the speed. I was about to make an image when I looked at the C drive to see how much was there. I have 9gb left of 24gb! It looks like they sent me the wrong PC.

I am not sure if I should send it back or not. I had planned to upgrade the drive to SSD when they got bigger and cheaper. I guess I could still go that route.

Edit: Nevermind. They just screwed up the partitioning. They must have used an image form an SSD model. I have 65gb of unallocated space.

Since becoming obsessed and possessed by TZ fever, I've come to realize hoiw little I've paid attention to any techno-progress since I bought my last computer which was a year ago I got a liquid cooled SONY RC 320, which I had to put into storage due a cramped living condition.
Right now I am typing on my more than 2year old S580. .Of late I've had to learn what are SSD and HCSD and express cards and their usage.. (just a smaller PCMIA)..
I am impatiently waiting for my TZ to come so i can see just what I have ordered. While waiting I've been reading many many posts to get an idea of what are the options are to get a 32GB HD and a 1.2ghz processor to be sufficient.Suffice to say I have been exploring all the available options ..
When I get my TZ next week I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions..but some are sure to be answered by its arrival..

    Hi guys,

I've fallen in love, with a piece of japanese electronics. Her name is TZ (how pathethic).

Anyways, gonna order one of these beauties from Pricejapan tomorrow (the 160hdd version) but just wondering if anyone would have the answers to a couple of questions 1st.

    1) On the Japanese model I have noticed an input/output just beside the VGA out on the right hand side. Does anyone know what this is for.

    2) I plan on modding the Japanese TZ to accept a Sprint EVDO modem. Has anyone had any experience with doing this. Im European and we cant get the EVDO variant over here but i really want this baby to be able to communicate anywhere i go.

    3) Can I have your honest opinion on which you think is the best looking of the 2 , black or premium carbon. I know its all subjective but its really hard to tell from the photos i've seen just how the premium carbon looks in real life due to all the photos i've seen having different exposures and lighting conditions. Does anyone know if the premium carbon changes appearance in differnet lighting conditions (lighter/darker) and whether it may be more difficult to notice surface scratches due to the weave effect.

Sorry if i'm repeating anyone elses questions.

I was faced with the same choice. I've never seen Premium carbon on TZ. I have seen something similar on SZ.

I prefer the notebook to be in one color totally. Thats why i went for black.

I put some pictures here: http://community.webshots.com/user/philipbloem you can see them fullsize.

Same here with the colours issue. But i chosen the Premium carbon and i can say that is amazing. Someone said that the black is more easy to have scraches on and dust so that was reason i took the premium.
Let me know Jurispundence if you manage to active the Sim card in a japanese model. I don't have anything else in the right side of the TZ, only the VGA and the optical drive.

Blue does not exist on the TZ. Premium carbon can however show different shades depending on lighting. Never thought mine looked blue though.

Is not the premium fibre guys, i have the premium one and even if it changes with different lights it can become so blue. Must be a new model only for US, like the TXN27, limited edition.

This is what t says on the TZ191 webpage:
    Premium Black Carbon

The VAIO® TZ notebook features an eye-catching Premium Black carbon-fiber casing.

I think we are being fooled by a weird picture with weird lighting.

Hey guys, thats exactly the problem I was having. The way I see it is that as carbon fiber is a weave using multiple layers it will capture and relfect the lighting conditions around it. If you have ever seen real carbon fiber weave versus a lacquer effect stick-on there is a noticable 3d effect to the real deal.

I reckon I'll go for the Premium version. I reckon I can always replace the Premium casing with a black one from Sony Irelands parts catalogue if I really feel like it. As im from Ireland i wont be able to get my hands on the Premium fiber casing if I wanted to change it at a later stage. And it'll be SO exclusive over on this little island. I'm gonna get mugged for sure but until that moment i'll have one hell of a laptop. :D

That image has been edited. Based on all the other pictures that I have seen, the premium carbon weave is only shown in the cut out section of the lid (i.e. not the screen bezel area), and the rest of the area is the standard black carbon finish.

In that image, you can clearly see that all of the lid has that blue tinge to it.

Do Sony U.S.A. really expect that editing an image like that will sell more notebooks? It looks like trash!

I ordered the premium black carbon and from the description, I have the expectations of it looking like the premium sportbike or race parts that I am used to dealing with..I'll know what it looks like on Monday, which is an eternity away.
After reading many posts I understand why many order from Japan . I am concerned about how to slim down the windows install..which of course will be pre installed and is sure to be filled with Sony carp

Photoshop is a wonderful thing, in the right hands. It can also lead to a bit of confusion when the artist wants to produce a nice picture as well. The blue TX was always a beautiful thing. Any colour of TZ is beautiful in my eyes. Well maybe not the champagne one but the others look great. Hey Buellboy i reckon you just sold me on the premium finish with your race-parts discription. If it has that Yamaha R1 trackday look im there in a heartbeat.

As for the Sony crapwear im gonna image the drive completely using Acronis imaging software and then partition the drive and re-size it using Paragon. After that its a fresh install of vista on the second partition and ill run from that. That way I have a clean install the way I wanted it, be able to pull drivers from the original vista file repository and wont void my warranty. Happy days. I lose a bit of space but I end up with a backup (Sony) OS if my vista install ever develops a problem.

After that I plan on replacing the 160gb with a Samsung pinpoint M2 250gb anyway to improve the performance.

I ordered premium carbon..looks nothing like described by Sony or imagined by me..It is something that is not photograph able.. it looks kind of weirdly dark pearlescent .. That is why the websites cannot show the subtle finish colors
I'm not sure I like the finish especially for an extra $200. .. but the computer is a gem haven't charged battery or done anything but stare at it yet..

Why specifically that drive? What benchmarks did you see?

And do you know what 160GB drive Sony suplies?
