As I've mentioned before, Premium Carbon Fiber has a blue weave interspersing a black textured surface. That photo on SonyStyle is exaggerated, but it's blue. I will take a better picture so you can see, later today after I wake up!![]()

I think mine looks like it has a deep purple caste with metallic fiber sparkles
I am awestruck... -
wheres the pic of the ''blue'' tz buellboy or ubercool¿?
-
just got my bordeaux.... it looks amazing. it's not as reddish as it appears in pictures. it's more subtle; looks amazing.
-
What about these pics of the Premium Carbon fiber? Why is there a huge reddish tint? Is it the guy's camera?

Faar. alright, My TZ package has arrived in New Zealand (according to the tracking system), but obviously today is Sunday and I guess it be by Monday or Tuesday that I'd get one. !!! I now just wish for no-tax !! Cheers
Nanaki, hows yours.? Im thinking that you'd get yours soon as well, since your order were before me. -
Mine has been waiting at Conics for awhile. I told Brett to leave it their until they have VOS sorted out, just in case they need to run the VAIO application to authenticate the machine again (it's a windows application that must be run on the computer VOS is being registered for). They offered to ship it as soon as they received it (a week ago), but I am lucky that I said to hold onto it until it was all finalised, considering they needed the machine there in order to register it.
It should all be done, so I should only have to wait for the documents and sticker to arrive. I was the first one for them to do this for, so I was expecting delays.
Hopefully this week! -
Nanaki, would you mind why you are doing VOS (I know an oversea service) ?
But, I thought the VoS would be automatically done for all customer who purchased TZ...?? If they need a machine to authenticate VOS, why cant it be done by us..? Just curious, cheers! -
VOS is an option that needs to be purchased for any notebook, expect, I believe, in Hong Kong, where I think it may come standard.
From my knowledge, you need to purchase VOS from the country of origin of the notebook. I assume you could register it yourself. But, considering I can't speak Japanese, it would have taken me a long time to figure it out.
The program that I am referring to is something that runs on a machine to obtain the serial number and probably some other information. The web interface that is used to register VOS, change a lot of your personal information, etc., requires you to run the program to authenticate the machines details. -

Hi guys,
Just thought id pass on this link. Not sure if you have seen it already but just in case. Its an interview with the TZ designers. Obviously biased but some nice (if small) comparison shots with the outgoing ultra-portable champ the TX.
http://vaio-online.sony.com/prod_info/exclusive/vaio_tz_interview/index_body.html
To Philflow. Two apologies to make to you. 1st one for the late response to your question as to why I would choose to replace the 160gb hdd with a 250gb Samsung M2.
The 2nd apology, sorry, I made a typo, I meant to say Samsung M5S 250gb. I haven't seen any performance reviews yet but I have a lot of faith in Samsung 2.5" hdds. They usually have very good temperatures, acoustics, high transfer rates, power consumption and have been very reliable in the past for me. The increased areal density alone (160gb to 250gb on 2 platters each) should yield an increase in speed.
I cant find the maker of the 160gb hdd on the vaio but if anyone knows can they please post.
I have my own arbitrary rating of 2.5" hdd manufacturers based on my own personal experience. These are just generalisations:
IBM/Hitatchi - Very fast performance, run hotter and more noise than competitors. They are the performance leaders but you may sacrifice battery life.
WD - Quiet, middle of the road drives. Personally I rank them no.1 for desktop drives but only good all-rounders of laptops.
Fujitsu - Strange sometimes. Some of their drives deliberately tick, not very quiet and performance usually bottom 1/3 of the pack. Not recommended personally. They seem led by their PR department (1st with 300gb drive but only at 4200rpm and 12mm height = useless to most people)
Toshiba - Great for pushing the limit of capacities but i've heard a few horror stories overs the years of selling laptops.
Seagate - Great performing drives, generally low noise with the odd whiny batch. Could improve there power consumption rates.
Samsung - Low noise, low power consumption, low heat generation, upper 1/3 performance transfer rates, good warranty and good experience over the years. This will be the one for my TZ.
Please feel free to disagree, all opinions welcome in the search for the best drive for the new baby. -

Actually I just found a review of the Samsung M5S 250gb and its definitely the one.

Congrats.
Post some pictures, considering you got the Champagne Gold colour. -
I finally got to snap a few shots that I think can illustrate the premium carbon finish as supplied by Sony-Style USA.These were taken outdoors in natural light
You may see the "weave" in some of the photos and in one you can see what looks like dust which is actually a pearl flake which they have embedded in the finish This is what gives the finish different tones depending on the light
I still haven't started up this machine but so far I have decided to keep it, so it is finally unboxed and battery is being charged. I hesitate to start up until I can devote the time to get a semi clean install going..
studying the process before I jump in..

Thanks Buellboy. I think you posted links to the thumnails instead of the original image.

It's ranked number 1 bij German magazine Chip aswell.

However I don't know if it is a worthwhile improvement over the 160GB disk in TZ90, because I don't know what 160GB disk that is. -
I cant seem to load buellboy´s pictures dont know whats up
-
mebbe the problem is at image host..I dunno
I will give up on the pictures for now till I learn more about how the forum works
I did post thumbnail links to the full size but I think they were removed because of bandwidth
looks like I can't seem to figure out the multi quote either.
Thanks for directing me to the image hosting and I will examine that further to see how to work with that
more properly -
Pics from Buellboy
For comparison, a picture of black
thumbnails link to originals.
Buellboy, turned out freeimagehost does not work so well here, http://allyoucanupload.webshots.com/ works a lot better.
PS. why is that big sticker on your laptop? -
-

-
-

That's PhilFlow's.
rahulnirmal linked an instant at a good price, whereas the other will end up as a bidding war. If you're in the EU, Phil's is probably the better option. -
wow the premium carbon fiber does look awesome! originally I wanted that one but changed my mind to the sexy black and since mine has no issues and its absolutely perfect with no screen issues, dead/stuck pixels or backlight leaking or cracks or another guy saying that his screen moves when the screen is closed and opened, i'm very happy with this sexy jet black =) I think that picture does no justice, in real life look very very sexy! Heads turn when I take it around campus =D

If anyone is having trouble deciding whether to go SSD/DVD of SSD/HDD this might help ya come to a conclusion. Usb host powered DVD burner in TZ style black for €100inc vat. Thank you LG/

Not that one again. Phil suggested it in a previous thread, but it's too shiny!
If it did not have such a glossy finish, I would consider it. -

Well if ya dont like the dvd burner maybe you'll like this little blog review of the TZ itself. Not sure if its been posted already but what the hell

The guys at PJ just informed me they sent the rig on 11/24 (two days more, and it would have been a full month since ordering date !).
However long the whole process may take, I found PJ people to be nice and responsive.
Now let's hope the package quietly slips through the customs (at stake : 20% import tax !). -
I just ordered a TZ to replace my SZ680. Believe it or not, as much as I bring my med school crap around with me I found the SZ to be too big and annoying!
Anyway, I only had a few minutes to play with the TZ at frys, and in that limited amount of time it didn't bother me too much. I am concerned that the 11.1" screen will start to annoy the hell out of me after a couple hours of reading on it. Given that I spend probably 8+ hours per day reading stuff on my computer, I'm not sure how far I will get with it.
Anyway, what size is the hard drive in these things? I want to buy a small SSD and slap XP on it, but I can't find out if the interface is 1.8" or 2.5" -
They use a 1.8" drive.
Sony vaio tz order waiting lounge!!
