I downloaded all of the Windows XP drivers from Sony for the PCG-GR270P and all of them refuse to install, giving me a popup saying they are not intended for this model.

Sony has really effed this up! When I first setup this laptop for a friend to use in his DJ business, I downloaded all the drivers from Sony and they worked fine.

Like I always do, I put all the drivers on a CD and gave it to him. Of course, like about 90% of my computer clients, he's lost the CD*. Why can't people understand "Put this CD in a safe place. DO NOT LOSE THIS CD!"
I'd also put the driver installers on the hard drive - but that's useless when the hard drive completely dies.

Does anyone know where Sony has put the real drivers for the PCG-GR270P, including the one for that whacky scroll bar/drum? That's actually a pretty neat gizmo. I had it set up with quick access to the DJ software and other audio apps.

*I charge less for doing a wipe and reinstall if they remember to save that CD so I don't have to spend a bunch of time finding and downloading all the drivers again.

Went back to the Sony site using the VAIO, went to the same driver page and am using IE8 to just download and run the installers and they're working now. WTH is up with that?

Does not appear to have the driver for the scroll thing. That's annoying.

Right click the downloaded files and check that they are not blocked. Sometimes Windows file security gets in the way. Even scarier is the situation where downloaded files just disappear without warning. The fix is to edit the group policy and set how downloaded files are treated.

Downloading wasn't the problem, they WOULD NOT INSTALL. But downloading them with the laptop they are to be installed on, and having IE8 do the downloading and launching them, it works.

Now all I need is the jog dial driver. That jog dial driver is not here Sony eSupport - PCG-GR270P - Support
