this seems to be the 11 inch version, specs seem a bit cruddy, again it is a bit cheaper of course

bah, oh well. Guess I'm happy my SVZ is in pristine condition.
-
this seems to be the 13 inch version, in silver. It seems it will also ship with a 1366 x 768 display, I guess as stock? unless websites have this as a mistake...I guess sony's pledge to kill off the resolution didn't sink in yet. Even the tablet Z comes with a 1920 x 1200 screen, ffs sony. I'm sure there will be CTO versions of the 11 and 13 inch P series but with most competitors offering higher resolutions stock, I don't see why Sony can't either.
-
I thought Sony had said (at the Vaio Fit announcement) that they were completely phasing out 768p displays?
-
-
I guess that there will be options to increase the hardware, maybe with a dedicated gpu-chip or even a standard-voltage cpu.
The entry prize for the 1080p 13inch model with 256GB SSD, 8GB DDR3 and Low-Voltage CPU was about 1100€.
There where some customization options available but they just had no text... which makes it seem like it was not intended to broadcast this version on their online site just yet. -
Where are the performance models!? Something with a dedicated GPU, a 750M at least, to replace the S or bring back the Z series!?
-
-
-
I would presume the 2.3lbs is the 11inch model? not the 13 inch one? or is that the weight of both models?
also is there a HDMI port? hard to see from these photos, since the ports on the side look like std usb ports like on my S -
ascariss
HDMI is there... -
yes, looks like the pics and weight are for the 11" model
-
Qwaarjet
the weight will not differ essentially for 11" and 13", I guess it is in between 1 -1.15 kg or so. -
Aiga, do you know if the Duo 13 will have a dedicated GPU? or will it just run the integrated HD from intel?
-
ascariss
HD only, to my knowledge. -
Previous Sony Vaios had X40M class GPUs but now it seems such a GPU is pointless. Thus they will now need to use a higher class GPU or they will never release a Vaio with a dedicated GPU ever again...
-
Considering what I saw it only had 4 or 8GB of memory (it said one slot, but I'm assuming it's soldered onto the motherboard), that's disappointing. Knowing Sony it's like the DUo - 8GB (2 x 4GB) to take advantage of dual channel. Oh well. Definitely a no go for me.

Holy Bear
yeah, let's call it Vaio Xtreme (SVX11xx) -
Isn't the Iris in non ultra book CPUs? If so, the 735M or even the 740M shouldn't offer much of an improvement. The Z and S both are directed at performance, so what would be the point of say a 740M if it, lets say, only gave an increase of about 10 fps in a video game...
-
I think the best true ultrabook haswell CPU announced so far is the i7-4650U. It's a 15W chip, but has the HD 5000. Not quite the official Iris/Iris Pro level, but has the same amount of EU's, just lower clocked and sans eram. Should be close to 2x better than the HD 4000, so if the DUO11/13 at least get that, it should amount for a decent upgrade in performance.

Wow, this thread exploded overnight.
Where did you guys find those photos? Are they from Computex? All of them are of the Pro's 11 and 13 inch models, right? -
Was there any info on the display tech btw?
-
nothing that we didn't already know
-
What exactly does "triluminous" mean? Is it RGBLED?
-
Guys, if you missed the news you may read here:
Sony VAIO Pro Ultrabook Leaked, Offers FullHD Triluminous LCD -
I wonder how much the Triluminos displays will cost for addon -
-
1kg weight wow... I do not care a lot for "mobile" computing power these days as my desktop-pc is doing all the intense stuff.
I do not know any other device in the foreseeable future which only costs about 1000€ and weights just 1kg and this device even has 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD for that price.
All the companies make the false approach to create hybrids which all weight too much to be used as a proper tablet.
Anyway... I'm still keeping my hands crossed for a new Vaio-S Version with IPS-Screen... as I would prefer it above this device.
Nevertheless the Sony Vaio Pro is a nearly perfect mobile device as it has a good Screen, low Weight and enough Compute Power for every daily task and even some professional usage.
A Macbook Air costs 1500-1600€ with 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM and it would still have an inferior screen and would weight more.
Sony I love you xD -
SurferJon
these are ultrabooks. That is enough to conclude that this type is definitely and only ULV. -
The processors that can now be used on ultrabooks are on a hole different level than last years though, right?

Its up again.
13inch https://shop.sony.de/shop/ipc/displ...OUP&ctype=areaDetails&isHideActive=false)/.do
11inch https://shop.sony.de/shop/ipc/displ...OUP&ctype=areaDetails&isHideActive=false)/.do
Sidenote: With education discount the 13inch version only costs 1060€... thats a very good value!
Both devices are manufactured with 100% carbon fibre.
-
Those links don't work but the original does. Still really bummed about only 8GB of memory. Even at 12GB this would be the right weight/size.
-
The second option is maybe the endurance battery.
I do wonder why the 11inch version (1450€is more expensive than the 13inch version (1150€
.
Maybe that's a bug as well... I wonder what happens if I purchase the 13inch now and the prize increases to 1400€ in a few days.
I guess it would be a bargain.

If we give Haswell 10% over Ivy Bridge in performance, single threaded and apps that only use 2 cores should be pretty much a wash in performance. Unfortunately, anything that can use all available cores/threads will run much much better on the SVZ with it's 4/8 setup. Sad they used a chip with Intel HD 4400, Sure it's a hair faster than the HD4000, but I felt the HD5000 should have been the bare minimum with Haswell. Oh well, there's always the refresh
-
On the plus side, the bezels appear to be more narrow this go around
and frankly, Sony had no where to go but up when it came to the speakers. I doubt they could have put worse speakers than what's in the SVZ even if that was the goal, can't do worse than rock bottom!
that's already 2 pluses for the Pro -
...that would be nice. -
If it's ULV who wants it? We're here for the Z!!
Seems like we aren't getting one, though. -
I am sad, I think I will get me and SVZ quad core of the last ones remaining here in France. This is certainly a very interesting ultrabook, extremely light and probably fast enough but is not a professional machine.
No fingerprint reader, no num lock to enter numbers and most possibly no possibility for multiple screens like the setup I have for my Z2. Also no Raid 0 SSD. -
Maybe something like a "Sony Vaio Pro-S"... who knows. -
-
FenderP
no VGA on 11" for sure! -
-
-
So is the T series going to remain as a model or will Sony kill it off? Wouldn't make much sense to have both the T and Pro, unless the T will be dropped in price to be offered as a cheapo ultrabook from sony which it technically is already...
-
What about the S series? Is it being replaced by the cheaper Fit!?
