are these drivers / apps safe for ALL TZ models ... I have just got a TZ90S from dynamism.com So far the driver install has gone well, apart from the 1024x768 which drove me mad until i found this forum. Is there any information on what each of the applications do - and which we can not bother installing. Trying to keep lean and mean
Thanks -
uhm ... run into my first problem. cannot get the audio drivers to work. have tried the ones from sony, and realtek but nothing works. any ideas?
-
bit depressing replying to own threads - however what I have worked out is that the audio hardware is part of the intel chipset. When I install the chip set driver you click next and then you get finish - does not seem to do anything. I have updated the bios thinking it was that. The audio driver just seems to be the realtek codec which installs fine, however as far as device manager is aware there is no audio hardware device installed.
-
why do people keep posting ans asking questions on this thread when i made a step by step guide on how to downgrade a tz wtf
-
I thank you for your reply, but its not very helpful. Where is your step by step guide as you are not the original poster on this thread? I think we have few issues here.
1) all guides I have found are out of date! The links in this thread are broken as Sony have updated the drivers on the 11th November!
2) With the updated drivers I think they have fixed issues from the past but generated new ones which I am finding, eg Audio is not working
3) I cannot find ANYWHERE a reference to clear up if the drivers work for all models, I am using a SZ90S, cannot find reference to that model anywhere. Do all drivers now issued for TZ1 and TZ2 work the same?
4) A number of the guides conflict, some say do X where others say do Y.
I understand people here have spent time helping out and I thank you, from reading so far I have worked through a number of issues, however new ones appear. I cannot get audio working, and cannot find one post with someone saying the same thing. I wonder how many people have no updated the drivers from Sony and run into this issue.
Update: I found your guide, and it was one of the ones I read - however the drivers you had were I think older than what was on th ftp server. However I have just doubled checked and downloaded them and they are in fact the same versions as on the ftp server. The chipset drivers do not seem to install, the audio driver installs. However I have no audio, as far as the TZ90s is concerned there is not audio hardware installed, only codecs. -
ok I HATE WINDOWS! total re-install and now everything works fine including the audio ... grrrrr

Orville or can leave a message here I assume? -
Excellent Write Up and the order for installing these drivers... all these drivers can be downloaded from the link below and they are the exact version as posted in the list above... Thanks alot to Orvillereden !!!!! Now you'll just have to search them in order by following his list (hint: the CTRL + F feature helps out a lot) but all the drivers you need are there on that one page... just follow his list one by one and your set to use your Windows XP on your Tz Series Laptop... However the only flaw I noticed so far is the video driver... once installed it'll have the exclaimation mark on it in the device manager and the other one with a question mark on it... once that can be figured out the computer should be fine...

VIDEO FIX And display reset for my post above.
Orville again I had the exclamation mark in device driver for the video
what I did I used a freeware called universal extractor which when unzipped
can be run from it's folder, and extracted the driver , put it on a disc
then right clicked in device manager , I think it was under unknown device , Update driver and then directed it to the disc, Presto
worked for me like a charm. Hope this helps.
Orvillereden
ps Hope i am allowed to post this link to universal extractor freeware

Also I could not get a resolution to change higher than (1024x768) but
someone else can't remember where god bless them posted a fix which works absolutely perfect here it is.
SONY VAIO DISPLAY FIX
All you have to do is, go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager.
Right click on each of the three Digital Flat Panel (1024x768) devices in the Monitor category, and select "Update Drivers".
Choose "Install from a list or specific location", and then "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", then click NEXT.
Voila, you will see two choice, one is your Digital Flat Panel (1024x768), and another one is a Plug and Play Monitor.
Choose the 2nd one, NEXT, and YOU ARE DONE!
do the same thing for all three DFP under the Monitor device category.
You can now choose the resolution 1366x768 in Display Properties, and restarting won't affect a thing : D
Damn sony could've told us. Have fun with you now slick and efficient laptop! This I copied from the post Orvillereden.
Thank You Bobby Baby for your nice comments. -
Thanks again to Phil for compiling this. I was very unhappy with my TZ27 until I decided to upgrade the RAM and put XP on it. Now it flys.
However I am still struggling with the mic. The 'external' and internal mic (excuse if wrong terms) do not work. The audio drivers were some of the first to install and initially It almost worked, the level was very low but there was some sound. Now it doesn't work at all.
I HAVE changed the levels as sugested earlier in this thread but this does not fix my problem. I have installed all drivers including those from realtek website but it still doesn't work.
Any ideas? Anyone else having problems? Could this be a hardware error?
Thanks -
I need help on my sony TZ, i bought mine originally with 1gb memory, the store upgraded it with 2gb and now i cant even use it propoerly as everytime i use it i have crash dump on memory, i tried removing the memory and used the memory installed on my HP laptop, 1gg 667Mhz, my search on the net states that kingston compatible with TZ was 2gb 533 mhz.. the store upgraded it with 667, im not sure what is the original memory Mhz installed in it. but the kingston 667 2gb is giving me crash dumps. May in know what type of 2gb memory did you upgrade?
thanks so much
kingston memory finder gave me the model M25664E40 -
I bought a Kingston Memory M25664E40 (2Gb compatible with TZ, I got a TZ11MN)
-
thanks so much lux, so 533 is it, but the memory bus of tz27 is 667, its weird why it cant run 667 2gb when it can run 667 1gb.

People,
Just a reminder that when you pull down the downgrade applications from the sony site they are numbered in order of installation. Follow the numbers

Hi everyone. I just got myself a TZ37GN/R(makes me think of Guns N Roses). Damn glad I bought this sexy little piece of technology.
I asked the salesperson regarding downgrading to XP and he advised me that the fingerprint scanner will not work with XP...is this true? I hate Vista. It asks too many damn questions... -
-
Thanks bejand!
I guess all I have to do is follow the instructions on page 1 of this thread. I already have an XP cd that came with the Vaio. Can't wait to XP my GN/R!! -
This thread is very helpful. I downgraded my TZ150 to XP. The device list looks clean. However, I notice there are a few device working inappropriately: 1) MIC is not working; 2) Camera is not working; 3) the dvd burner is not working. Can anybody help me on these. I really appreciate it.
-
UPDATE: I've sorted this out! My enthusiasm in first using Slipstream and all its wonderful features, I went a little too far and included all the driver executables. This took the ISO size to 713Mb, forcing me to use a dvd rather than cd. More forum reading uncovered an issue with the dvd features after downgrading. This got me to thinking, so I removed the drivers and reduced the ISO to fit onto a cd. This seems to have fixed it! It's now in the middle of installing, so I guess I only have all the other problems to deal with... each of which are comprehensively documented in the preceding pages, thanks to all the great feedback from others on this forum. Here's hoping I can get it all as close to perfect as can be expected.
Garry
Hi,
I am wondering if someone can help me. I have found this quickguide very informative, and if I ever get to the stage where XP installs, I look forward to using your tips to make everything work correctly!
I have a TZ17GN loaded with Vista Business. I have tried several times to install XP Pro, but everytime I get as far as formatting the drive and installing XP, and then I get an error saying that it can't access the drive where the XP installation files are located.
At first I thought it was due to the old version of XP that I was using, so I slipstreamed XP SP3 into the install disk and tried again with no luck. I then slipstreamed in the chipset drivers in case this was the problem, but this didn't get me any further.
I might add that on some occasions I have recovered back to Vista before starting a new XP install from bootup, or other times I have tried installing XP while Vista is running.
Can anyone help? I'm at the point that I would pay someone to do it, but Sony won't help me, and their official service partner in my area says they don't do software/OS repairs.
I'll try anything!

InfyMcGirk while(!(succeed=try()));
Could it be the old chestnut of your internal HDD being connected via SATA and thus you need to install appropriate SATA drivers during the XP installation?
ISTR you need to press a button (?F5) when it flashes up at the bottom of the screen asking if you need to install any disk/scsi drivers?
Sorry I can't be more specific, but this rings a bell with me from a while back. -
Maybe I'm off the beaten track here, but wouldn't the method prescribed by Sony on their website ( http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/239933/sectionfirst?site=hp_en_AP_i&subpage=detail) work effectively?
-
Probably it does work. We did not have that information one year ago.
I will update the startpost. -
Hi. I have a problem - after downgrade and installing all xp drivers and sony software Windows does not detect ethernet adapter. It does not even show in device manager question mark as if it does not exist and does not want to install its drivers. Does anyone have such problem?

one more thing. I cannot find Vaio Status monitor in XP though i imstalled all the provided software. Does any one have it?

Hey everyone.
Can someone tell me how to get the mic working please? A lot of people seem to be having problems with getting it to work.
It looked like dynastyss had figured it out on page 13 but didn't say how he did.
Thanks, -
Have you checked this page: http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/239933/sectionfirst?site=hp_en_AP_i&subpage=detail ?

Yes, which is the driver for the mic?
-
I don't know, it's been a long time since I sold my TZ. Maybe someone else can help you?
-
Did someone resolve problem with mic? Any updates from sony?

Hi Bro PhiFlow...im preparing to get my vaio TZ downgrade to win XP Pro. I think there's should not have any problem with it. But my concern is about the Hidden recovery partition. how would I delete it, and merge it with drive C. I check the disk management. it say 6.15GB Free space, then followed by C drive 23.98GB. (im running on 32Gb SSD) so there's no point of keeping the recovery partition. Since you already done with the XP downgrade. If you got nay ideas, advice pls reply me directly to [email protected]. Cheers bro.

Download the free trial of Acronis Disk Director and make a bootable CD. Boot of that CD and you can do it.
Or maybe someone else knows freeware tools that can do it. Gparted may be one of them, I'm not sure because I always use Acronis. -
Be carefuel with xp downgrade... I am looking for solution for my mic problems for one month. I even write few emails to sony even they don't know the solution... F%$$% sony this is the last time I am buying this s%$
