Any chance any of these hacked drivers will enable us to use the HDMI and VGA to power two external monitors at once?
I have seen people say they can do it in linux do its just a driver issues?
-
Does Vaio Z2 has dynamical switching? Other modes?
-
you can plug external Power Media Dock with ATI 6650m (in fact it's 6740m actually, but Sony name it 6650m for bandwidth reasons) onboard and then it will change to ATI GPU. Undocking would switch back to Intel HD 3000 GPU.
Cheers,
Miki -
So there is no way you can use ATI gpu on battery?
-
With Z2 - no, you can't.
You only have Intel GPU inside laptop. Plugging ATI is always with power cord. -
You mean ATI card goes external?
-
yes, ATI card is in external unit along with CD/DVD/BR tray (Sony call it PMD - Power Media Dock)
Look at these pics:

this is the message you get when plugging in ATI:

When you were using YUC, was your lappie connected?
-
yes, everything was connected, laptop+ATI PMD
under Device Manager>Display - both cards are shown when PMD connected. When disconnected, only Intel is there.
However, even with PMD disconnected, you still see CCC under desktop>right click, only there is nothing in options.
So, as discussed previously, ATI does load some stuff, even you use only Intel GPU
These files are always on:
atieclxx.exe - ATI Extrenal Events Client Module
CCC.exe - CCC: host application
MOM.exe - CCC: Monitoring program
Just to be clear: everything is working just fine with your driver package. The only part that needs further optimization is Intel with HDMI options. That part is broken.

Should resolve your issue.

I wanted give some feedbacck on the latest 12.1 drivers.
They work fantastic and I have not found any issues. Performance is off the charts! Gaming is now really good on the Z2 and if you output to an external monitor, the performance is outrageous! 20% + faster!
I have figured out how to overclock the PMD with these drivers. I am sure there is an easier solution, but this is how I stumbled upon regaining access to the ability to overclock.
Install ATI Tray Tool. Reboot.
Install ATI low level driver, Click start. Reboot.
Then launch Saphire Trixx. I have for for my PMD 890/1190 works best. Set the fan speed to fixed 100%.
Incredible! -

^ are you able to change the GPU core voltage with this method?
-
-
Procedure is very simple:
1. you uninstall drivers regularly (via programs and features in Control Panel),
2. reboot and boot in safe mode (upon restart keep pressing F8 button).
3. Start Driver Sweeper ( as administrator!) check Ati Display box and uninstall leftovers.
4. Another reboot, and regular start.
Everything should be removed, and you're good to go with new drivers (clean install).
maven1975,
Thanks for the feedback. Just to make sure, which driver set did you install? 12.1 mobility from ATI or from leshcat (combo driver)?
Cheers,

wut you mean standby? Driver is ready and waiting for all day long for your reports -

Generally stable in a 4-monitor config. -
Can you check HDMI as well? Want to see if there are improvements under Intel HDMI setup options.

Testing now...
Update: I have not found any issues with 12.1 aside from the non fading light changes mentioned in the past.
Performance seems to be getting better with each release. I am really puzzled why the PMD is having such troubles with SFIV AE and COD BO when running it with on the Z2 display. The overclocked 330m still performs better. (20 FPS IN SFIV and 20 FPS in COD BO) Games like BFBC2, BF3, Crysis 2 all run much better on compared to the 330m.
Output to a monitor with 12.2 still gives you signifigant FPS boosts while gaming. This is the same results as with the Z1 and their external graphics solution.
Thankfully, MW3 works great. The funny thing is that the internal HD 3000 runs that game SUPRISINGLY well at 1920 x 1080p. If you rn the game with the same settings with the PMD, the system runs quieter, but you do get some weird hiccups. (FOV, Specular, Soften Smoke) All choke the game down with the PMD using the internal monitor. Not the case when displaying on an external monitor. -
when did the universe driver set get another upgrade? or is this the same one that was mentioned when the thread first started?
-
im trying to install th enew one but i keep getting error saying the INF was not found.

Updated and that mentioned at the first post as well... -
thanks -
Can anyone give me any verification that my Vaio does indeed utilise switching graphics? I have a VPCCB27FDD, and it came with the HD 6470M Radeon with 512MB video memory. I want to know if it's ok for me to install this driver onto my machine, as the most current graphics driver from Sony is this one: Sony eSupport - VPCCB27FD/D - Software & Drivers
It's dated at the end of June. My CCC also feels gimped, as several setting are missing and/or greyed out. I've done a system restore last night, as the graphics driver went on a spaz when I attempted to burn a recovery disc. I've only had this for a little over a week, and I do like it a lot, it's just the graphics issue has me befuddled and worried, and the owners thread doesn't seem to help me either, as a lot of it is bickering about AMD or Sony being at fault, and the issues are with the 6630M. -
Battlefield, SC2, Skyrim, NFS series works better on the Z2. Even better when connected to a monitor.
The only game I have that does not run better on the internal monitor is SFIV AE. This is if your commparing it to a modded bios and overclocked Z1.
I can tell you that gaming on the Z2 is a much quieter experience.
The internal Intel chip runs MW3 well enough if you have a long break and want to game in a pinch. Quite suprised. There is a SERIOUS difference in the Z2's full voltage CPU compared to what you will see on youtube with those trying to run it on a ULV chip.
Leshcat and pyr0 are the saviors of the Z2 series!
I have found the latest testing drivers to be flawless on my end. -
This driver set is great! -
Thanks maven1975
I agree, one of the reasons I got put off by the Z2 was because of the graphic problems earlier on but the work done by the likes of Leshcat, as usual Pyr0, etc, has got me thinking about getting the Z2 again. -
What have I to do with this driver stuff?
-
Not Z2-related but you helped me out on the Z1 egpu a while back. You did some handy bios work for the Z2 though! Sorry, if i lumped you in incorrectly with the Z2 redevelopment
-
Breaking open the bios!
-
^
Include in this set $ony Vaio Z2 Separate configuration option
Thanx leshcat,YaD and all testers .... -

Has anyone used this driver set on the SA/SB/SC series laptops? how did it go? any issues?
-
Thanks leshcat! -
i dont want to offend the hard work these guys have done on these drivers, but security wise how risky is it to install unofficial drivers? probably i am being overcautious
-
Tested this one the SE190x. Followed the directions to the teeth and still have some problems. Will probably contact the guy and see if there's anything I'll do and I'll keep the board here posted.
Screen automatically dims, regardless of altering any power display settings available. Youtube videos don't work in SPEED mode but are fine in stamina mode. Haven't had a chance to run any games on it as this is coming from a fresh boot. Will try Skyrim and a few others and get back with info.
Did a drive sweep and tried both 12.1 WHQL and 12.1 v.2.7.
Maybe I missed something along the way but I don't think the newest drivers are fully compatible with the Vaio SE. -
But that's the only problem with this drivers. We just have to change drivers on 11.12 or wait for next drivers for switchable graphics.
What's problem with screen dimming? -
As for running games on the latest 12.1 (I think), skyrim ran reasonably smoother. I know AMD released new drivers for the game and it shows in the new driver installation. Solid improvement, but I guess I'll have to wait for the new switchable graphics driver update. -
leshcat announced there is up date expected soon.
-
12.3 Pre-WHQL is up

Hey guys,
I got a VPC-CA1S1E with an Intel i5-2410M and a 6470M. This cpu has an HD3000 IGP. Unfortunately its locked by Sony.
Is there a way to unlock it?
Sony released a BIOS update for those models with 6630M gpus...dont get it, why a 6470M shouldnt use theire IGPs...
Little help plx
