And also the Nvidia Tools according to the NVIDIA Release Notes (v257.15) quoted above. I think it's because it keeps legacy custum profile data settings from the old driver that may mess up the new one.
*****
That's why I specified that my results applied to my machine & these 2 benchmarks only. I never said anything about FPS gain for game X or Y. I'm waiting for your input for that.![]()
Still, one can see the gain from OEM to 197.44 & none to 257.15 for these 2 well known benchmarks. That's it.

I have already installed them. All is working fine
-
is anybody else having some fan problems with the new 257.21 driver?
it seems like my fan is going on and off all the time just surfing the web... -
Thanks for the pointer.
The Release Notes pdf doc is 404 @ the present.
Browser Problem? How about some "details"? Which video card & CPU? Which browser, how many tabs? How many videos? From where: Youtube, Metacfe, etc? Are your plugins up-to-date: Flash, etc?

i7-720, 330m
it wasnt just while browsing the web, at idle it was doing it too.
well ill try it again and see whats up.
well benchmarking the new driver update i got 2.91 points which was the highest i ever got. seems like the new driver is really nice.
UPDATE
well it seems after reinstalling the new driver again the turning off and on of the fan stopped.
now it seems like there is a slight buzzing noise coming from the fan and the cd drive. its very minute
but distinct...haha dont know how to explain it GAHH. -
Im on the VPC-F11J0E/H.
No problems with the 257.21 drivers. Fan speeds were fine, temps were fine...unfortunatly I was having a strange transparency issue with WoW (which looked absoloutly amazing btw ... other than shaddow outlines showing through the ingame frame/buttons etc) so I am reverting to the 197.44 driver.
The 257.21 driver was supported out-of-the-box which was nice -
Ok so please excuse my ignorance, this is my first post and I've only had this laptop for 3 days(it's amazing btw) and my graphics card is still at 189.25 version, I should download the beta drive? It says it doesn't support vaio notebooks in the "supported products" tab.
NVIDIA DRIVERS 257.21 WHQL -
yes it works fine im running it right now and you should see an amazing boost of performance, like A LOT compared to that crappy old driver.
just make sure you uninstall the old driver before you install the new driver.
and just to be on the safe side create a restore point before you do anything just in case somebody goes wrong -
Hey guys first post here. After installing the latest driver (257.21) are we still going to change the folders?
-
Gandalf_The_Grey Notebook Evangelist
Sorry I don't understand the question.
Can you explain?
If you mean do we still have to replace the inf file, then the answer is no.
These drivers work out of the box. -
thanks that was what i mean
-
Have updated to 257.21 from the original 188.67 and did a before and after benchmark. Results aren't bad...
188.67 (Before):
257.21 (After):
Brightness controls still work.
As an aside, I also did the 188.67 benchmark with the heat (fan) control set to 'Balanced', and the result seems to be (unsurprisingly) a slight drop in performance for the GPU:
The other benchmarks were all with this option set to 'performance'. -
The drivers direct from Nvidia wont work for you guys? Have you guys tried the modified INFs at LaptopVideo2Go?
I can help with some proper mod instructions for newer drivers if you would like. -
The newer Nvidia official driver does support some Vaio GPU's out of the box and includes settings for all recent Vaio GPU's (non-hybrid). The nvszf.inf (Sony inf) is present in all the 257 series drivers.
-
You guys may wanna try the new beta drivers (258.69).
They work without hacks. -
oh wow another one?! shoot the new 257.21 works wonders such a big improvement in performance i think.
i may try the 258.69 soon -
258.69 won't work on mine and shows the ....no compatible drivers....message.
257.15 (1041 points) and 257.21 (1038 points) drivers worked straight from Nvidia's installer. The Benchmarks are the same as sheebp's results except that my temps reached 80-81 degrees celcius. -
I perhaps should have said that I do use a stand for the laptop - just a very basic plastic job that keeps it about an inch off the desk. May help explain why my temps are much lower.
-
Ah that would factor into a lower temperature reading. I am also using an 820QM processor and coupled with the brutal heat in NY. We've been in high 37-39 degree celcius weather for the past few days. It's a killer...
-
258.69 finally worked. I had to download the international version vs. the English version in Nvidia's site.
No changes in performance whatsoever but seems stable at the moment.
Hmm.. I did not like 257.21 I actually reverted back to 257.15 because Crysis, Crysis Warhead, FFXIV Benchmark utility, GTA3 would freeze consistently. -
so hows the performance difference between the new 258.69 to the other 257.xx
benchmark please!! :] -
the only thing I benchmarked with all three drivers was the FFxiv benchmark test.
Non-OC'd GPU yielded 1250 for the low quality test (Forget high quality at all..slows to a choppy crawl ) with differences in the +/- 2 range. Actually the 257.15 came out with the highest score at 1250.
Mangosango most likely has a GPU from a good batch. I cannot get 1382 at all from that benchmark.
Also, I realised, that my GPU does not OC well at all. Even at the 730/915/1515 or lower my GPU stalls. It seems like the fan does not kick into high gear when OC'd whereas it works well at default settings. -
Hi all !!!
Tested on Sony Vaio VPCF11M1E
NVIDIA Drivers Update (197.44)
NVIDIA Drivers Update (258.69)
Test 3DMark Vantage 2010 NVIDIA Drivers Update (197.44)
YouTube - VAIO F - NVIDIA Drivers Update (197.44) for GT 330M
I have to do a test for NVIDIA Drivers Update (258.69) in 3DMark Vantage 2010 -
Something strange..........is no more so noisy !!!
My coolere fan from laptop is ok now no more annoying , I tested on youtube movie 1080HD is extremely quiet .
Whenever open a movie in HD 1080 was extremely noisy .........is okay now ( I am so happy ) -
theres a new driver out on the nvidia website and im going to test it out because the 257.21 seems to be crashing a lot.
hopefully i can benchmark this 258.96 beta soon -
okay my first benchmark on the new 258.96 beta driver
everything seems to be good to go
so far no crashes but im going to have to test it on games later on
-
what do you mean by crash?
-
driver failures resulting in black screens
-
I"ve gotten a score of 1562 with a little bit of OC, in the FFXIV benchmark, so I hope i can play it.
-
I'm now using the 258.96 driver from Nvidia.
Retried overclocking at 625 core/800 mem/1550 shader with stable results resulting in a consistent score increase of 1458 in the FFXIV low-quality benchmark. Still low for this game's recommended chart but better than before.
Also, it seems like this 258.96 driver for my unit is the only one that allows overclocking in a stable manner. The previous ones resulted in the display driver stopping and restarting. Still, I can't go as high as 730/915/1515 unless I get a laptop cooler I suppose.
-
What were your OC settings?
-
Hi,
This is my first post in NotebookReview.
I have a Sony Vaio (model VPCCW26FX), Core-i5-, 4GB DDR3, Nvidia GT330M (512 MB), Windows 7-64 bits.
I've tried to install almost all available at NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search (258.96, 257.21, 257.15, 197.16).
In all cases I get the same message: "The NVIDIA Setup program Could not locate any drivers That Are Compatible with your current hardware ..."
Please, could someone help me?
I would greatly appreciate it! -
There are two English language versions that you'll find for the Nvidia drivers
English (US) and All Versions (International version)
I have a USA F11 but for some reason maybe due to hardware installed? only the International version works for me. I get the "....could not locate...." error message using the English (US) versions all the time.
xcougar posted a link to the 258.96 download page in the F owners thread a while ago.
NVIDIA - Download Drivers -
The official Nvidia driver doesn't support all Vaio GPU's, only a couple like the GT330M and 310M in the F series.
You can get a modded inf from laptopvideo2go or make your own modded inf to make the official driver install in your CW.
I can make one for you if you are interested. PM me for more info. -
excuse me.
I have a vaio z VPC11AFG.
could I also use the offical
could u help me to make one for it?
thx
Email:[email protected] -
The Z series uses hybrid graphics driver. NBR user Nautis makes modded inf's for the Z series hybrid GPU's.

i doubt you can play the game
quote from website
[Under 1500] Insufficient Performance
Does not meet specifications for running the game.
LOl so i guess all of us cant play the game boo
i was hoping to play it too
-
so it can run crysis but not ff?
new meme anyone? -
Yeah the results are lower than I expected. Hopefully the final product will somewhat churn out better performance. I remember trying the Crysis demo on my F11 before buying the full game. It didn't look good performance-wise and gave me second thoughts. The full game handles a lot better.
Then again we have the option to play at a resolution lower than 1280x720. and configure video settings to balance things out. Hope it will be good enough though. The environment and characters I saw from basic gameplay videos and trailers show quite some depth and detail that would really be disappointing to lose for the sake of decent framerate -
@no end
you are right but honestly its just our gpu thats holding us down.
the 330m is just a decent like in the middle graphics card..
oh wells. i only wish i could upgrade video cards on laptops -
Thanks for the help To no End,
But, unfortunately, did not work for me ... :-( -
Hi, Coolguy,
How Can I get the modded inf? Could you guide me?
Thx. -
Refer the guide in my signature. Although, it is not intended for your model, it has instructions for making a modded inf for a Nvidia GPU. You can PM me your hardware ID (go to device manager > display adapter > double click Nvidia GPU > Details > Hardware ID's. I will send you the modded inf then.
You can also get the driver and modded inf here http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/to...s-7vista-64bit-nvidia-desktop-and-mobile-oem/
Download both the driver and modded inf, extract the driver, and copy/ replace the modded inf into the extracted driver package. Run setup to install the driver. -
Hello,
If I download and install the last driver 258.96 from Nvidia on my Sony VPC-F11E4E, I have to Update the inf with the same thing like the first post in this topic :
" 197.44 inf file and instructions: Midtown's 197.44 Instructions.zip (Mirrors: Megaupload, Hotfile)"
Sorry for my poor english, I come from France.
Thanks in advance. -
No plouf34 ! You don't have to modify the inf file. It's working just out the box
-
What is better : use the 197.16 or 258.96?
I Don't play games on my computer, just watch video, video editing (Cuda perfect for that) and Internet. And I would like a stable driver. All these questions because my VPC-F11 is new, and I've not yet installed all the drivers. -
I'm using 258.96 and I'm very happy with it. I have the same usage of my F11 than you.
-
258.96 should be 10x better like literally. it has a better performance boost.
-
Someone commented on my youtube that their desktop scored ~1400 on the benchmark, but that they can play the beta fluidly with shadows and long-distance rendering turned down.
