As the CKZ4 bag was too hard to source (in Europe) and I needed a laptop bag for my Z2 fast, I visited lots of shops in my area and found a pretty good bag.

It's the Case Logic VNA214 14.1": official site , Amazon (black), Amazon (brown)

I bought the black one and am very satisfied with it, especially for this price (around $30, the brown one even $19 currently on Amazon). It's a perfect fit for the Z2, it has lots of space for all possible accessories (e.g. PMD+both adapters+external HDD+USB sticks+documents+...), but at the same time the bag is pretty compact, the quality is decent and the padding seems to be quite good. It has a small front pocket (e.g. for external HDD), a mid-sized pocket (e.g. for PMD and some other smaller things), and two large, padded pockets (e.g. one for the laptop, the other for adapters and cables). I don't have a sheet battery, but there is space for it (either attached to the laptop or separately), too.

Actually I bought it as a temporary bag, until I get a CKZ4, but I find it so good, that I will keep it as main bag for now.

That's going to be a mighty tight fit for a Z2.

Air is deeper than a Z2, but the Z2 is notably wider than most 13" ultraportables - including the Air.

    Left to right - Toshiba Z830, 11" Air, 13" Air, Z2.

When I was looking for a bag, I also saw that the Z2 did not fit into many of the 13" bags. As I wrote in my post above, I bought a 14.1" bag and it fits really good.

Well - since it seems most luggage makers size their bags for Crapbooks, it means basically that you need to look for one that says "fits 15-inch Pro" to get a guaranteed fit - though the Z2 will rattle around in there a tad. It is an 'odd' size for sure.

Edit, or as emev says, if you can find something as specific as a 14" bag, then that will work too.

Sorry if this hav been asked before, but I've looked and cant find the answer.

I've got the VGP-CVZ1 cover for my Z13, and wondered if anyone has this with the extended battery. Off to get the battery tomorrow, but not 100% sure if it will fit with the new battery.

Cheers in advance and again apologies if this has been asked before.

I'll be receiving the VGP-CKZ1 in a few days ^^ could get it at a nice student and EOL discount so I thought, why not :p I've still got 22 months of full warranty on my Z so I can just as well get some extras.

Did it bulk up your Z too much? or was it a case of not fitting correctly?

It is kind of unfortunate that despite having one of the most super-snakiest notebooks around, because most of the nice bags out there are sized for Crapbooks we've all got to cart it around rattling inside a 15" bag. Doesn't cause me much inconvenience TBH, so I've stopped looking.

It just didn't fit correctly. It took quite some force to get it in there and I really had to pull VERY hard to get it out. And the magnetic lid didn't have enough room to close with the laptop inside, the standard battery seems to bulge it up a bit too much. I think it might fit better with the 3-cell battery though (even though nobody has that one).

I just went with this 13" MacBook bag from a local store. LArobe Black Addict MacBook 13.3 Inch - Black + Wasabi: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories (available in MANY colors, I have the black and green one since it was the only available one)

Wonderful fit! Of course it's a few cm (about an inch) too high, but the width is perfect! Quite a tight fit but not hard to get out. Doesn't move in the bag at all! And the material really looks like it can absorb quite a few shocks.

Stretchy cases might work, but bear in mind it's exerting an additional bending force on the notebook in the meanwhile. There's snug, and there's the equivalent of wrapping rubber bands around the unit.

Very true. To this I would add: beware of zipper pulls in tight sleeves. Someone shipped me a Z12 in a VAIO neoprene sleeve, packed in really tightly for security, and the metal back of the zipper pull pressed hard against the barrel back for the duration of the shipment and made a small but unsightly scratch/dent - fortunately it was only visible when the lid was closed and you viewed the back of the laptop. Lucky "oops."

Well it's not putting any force on the laptop. The Sony case was on the other hand. When I mean tight I just mean it doesn't move around inside. The case doesn't have to stretch to fit my laptop.

Judging from the 100s of 5-star reviews on Amazon, this is an excellent basic sleeve. ON the strength of your endorsement, I ordered one! Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in response. I don't know when I put it in of course it bulks up a bit where the battery is extended by there is enough space for this to do that with the leather case. Assuming you are using the case with the flap (non magnetic). Mine could be the American version.
I can take a picture for you later.

EDIT I apologize, I am using this: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-VGP-CKZ2-Leather-Carrying-Black/dp/B001CSRA70

Of course... the Macbook Pro 13-inch!

I wasn't thinking about that boat anchor, it didn't even enter my mind. I was just thinking Air cases.

Hmmm. Yeah, stretchy cases for the 13" Pro should fit fine.

13" Pro is 2.41cmH x 32.5cmW x 22.7cmD, and the Z2 is 1.66cmH x 33cmW x 21cmD. So only a 5mm stretch in terms of width, which the difference in height should be able to accomodate in a case with some give even if snug for the Pro.

    Good call.

Well, I'd of course recommend the Zeroshock case, kept my Z safe and toasty. It's not a completely tight fit but it'll do :).

I'm wondering if anyone has tracked down some sort of clamshell case which can or does incorporate the cloth that's pretty much mandatory to keep the notebook in decent condition. I just find it ludicrous that I have to carry the cloth around as well and carefully place it every time I'm putting it away - would make more sense it could be integrated into a low-profile case.

I don't know about any such case, but unfortunately based on my experience the cloth does not guarantee at all that the screen will be kept in a good condition.

I just use a VGP-CP24 and sometimes my crumpler "The Fug" (the case is built for macbook air 13", but fits the Vaio Z just fine - the red rust color is the best) Fug (13")

You're probably right. But the religious use of a cloth then doesn't give Sony an 'out' when you call them for warranty regarding problems with the dumb choice of an aluminium top plate / bezel with a carbon body. Everyone should bear that in mind.

I'm a college student that just received a Z3. I need a backpack to hold my books and my laptop. Any recommendations that won't break the bank? I'm considering a timbuk2 messenger laptop bag but I don't know which to get. Also which size would fit my 13" without it jumbling around?

If you use a good laptop backpack, no, you do not. You'll have to check the insides, for instance my ye olde targus one bas a built in "sleeve" that's superior to the sleeves you buy separately in the modern age.

Honestly, I'd get a hard sleeve. The Z's flexing during carry causes a lot of damage - all right, damage is too strong a word but still, a lot of minor issues - over the months.

    Thule-Gauntlet 13" MacBook Sleeve
    a oppinion from amazon

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I kept having problems finding a case for my 13" Sony VAIO Z. All the standard PC laptop cases are either 10" (for netbooks) or 15" (average laptop size), or the giganto 17".

Finally, I figured out that the VAIO Z is about the same size as the MacBook (but thinner) and gave this a shot. And wouldn't you know? It worked! It fits snugly, has lots of protection on the inside and a sturdy exterior to protect from the outside. The zippers are sturdy and move smoothing. It doesn't even smell bad (a problem with many cases these days).

All in all, I'm impressed. This was just was I needed. Even though it was made with a MacBook in mind, it's a perfect, affordable case for my 13" VAIO Z, and I feel good about the level of protection it offers.

My only complaint is that a case like this could stand to have straps or someplace to attach them. It's not a major issue, but the case has no handle or straps, and for the price I think that would be a nice feature to include.

So it gets four stars for great protection and a decent price. I docked it one of five stars because it could be just a tiny bit better with some sort of handle, strap, or grip.

    5.0 out of 5 stars SONY VAIO Z21 - 2011 MODEL, September 4, 2011
    By
JOENOES - See all my reviews
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hard Candy Cases MacBook Air 13-inch Bubble Sleeve, Black (Personal Computers)
This is not an APPLE Accessory review.......

This case works fantastically for the sony vaio z21 the 2011 model with the new form factor. I also previously owned the 2010 model and it works fine but since the screen size is smaller it is not as stable inside. I always put my vaio in with the white cloth that it orginally came with and the silk screen protector inside this case and it fits fantastically I have also once included the sheet battery and although the fit is more snug than without the sheet battery it still works great.

The reason why I got this one is because I orginally ordered the one recomended by sony however it was way to big and that is because it was originally designed for another series of sony notbooks and after comparing the dimensions to the mac book air i decided to go with this one. What I like most about this case is that is doesn't make your $4,000 laptop bulky like sonys case and it also provides more protection than sonys leather folio. also as an added bonus you get this for half the price of the sony leather folio and it actually fits it perfectly.

I would like a completely rigid case/sleeve or lid protector for my Z that is able to fit the 9 cell battery (VPCZ1).

Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks
