    I will be getting a free "VAIO Z Neoprene Carrying & AC Case" with my Z purchase from P1, but I expect it to be this ugly thing; http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...35374&storeId=10151&langId=-1&catalogId=10551.

    Too big and too ugly by far. So, I'm looking for a nice, stylish sleeve, from the one hand of course preferably as small and 'thin as possible' (the Z filled sleeve should take at little room in my backpack as possible, so I don't need extra storage space or something), but of course, the main function is to protect my Z. What Z would you advise? Stylish, good and small. :) I saw the leather one ( http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...1&productId=8198552921665486585&tab=Features), but am afraid that one maybe is a bit too big and too boring/ too much for old people if you know what I mean... And I don't think this http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...-1&productId=8198552921665486587&tab=Features is what I'm looking for, cause that is a thing you are ought to permanently keep around your notebook, right? What do you think? Any suggestions?

    hm.. i think the smart protection is still a great choice, its not slim, but it will definitely protect your laptop.. and it is still very sleek and elegant..

    it is not as thick as i thought it was..
    it measure less than 4.5cm

    It certainly is. I had a look at this one in the shop and it's a terribly bulky case for such a small laptop. And the fold-over magnetic flap (instad of an end opening) just makes it even thicker.

    It'll definitely protect it though!

    Is anyone considering this?

    VGP-CVZ1_003.jpg

    I saw a TZ with it and thought it looked oh-so-good (closed on the table it looks like an actual notebook), but I'm not sure if it still goes for the thicker Z.

    For me, I always carry my lappy in a briefcase or some other bag, so I was thinking this was a pretty lightweight way to go. Also, it's a nice style and doesn't require you to take it out of the sleeve...

    Good to know! I'm glad you posted that. I was wondering about that myself. It looks pretty slick. Not something I'd trust for really good protection, but maybe good enough for being delicate with it in an oversided purse, etc. (I don't tend to throw my things around.)

    That picture sure makes it seem meant to be kept on, though. It confuses me in terms of protection vs. looks for that particular item.

    Yeah, it's pretty much meant to be left on, which is fine because it doesn't block any of the ports or cooling vents (this was never available for the SZ because of the main heat exhaust being located at the back).

    My problem is that I like docking stations too much, so velcroing this on everyday seems unlikely :(

    Ahh! Thanks again! :) I wish we had a Sony store here. :p I like it a little more to be left on, but then I'm not likely to bother with the docking station. But that does suck ... I'm surprised it wouldn't have proper cutouts to allow you to dock it. :/ Oh well. That leather protective sleeve probably has more protection and is just a sleeve, maybe that one would be nice for you? It's pretty nice looking online at least, more expensive than the cover though. I went with the VGP-CP22. I think it's currently only sold in Japan, but I saw one on eBay. It was only about $35USD at Amazon Japan, and comes with an AC adapter case. I won't have my Z for a few weeks still, but I already have the case. It seems to do exactly what I need it to do; fully enclose the Z to prevent scratches (mostly from my travel bag's zipper). My briefcase is soft on the inside so I won't normally use a carrying case for everyday use, though. One other thing: the CP22 is designed specifically for the TypeZ notebooks, so it should fit perfectly. It's rather recommended on this site (in Japanese).

    @ dimension;

    Hmm, you got me interested. I'm also looking for some sleeve for my Z, and would like the following characteristics:
    - Perfect fit (it should be a sleeve made for a 13,1 inch (not a 13,3 inch), and preferably of course a sleeve customized made for the Z).
    - Style/design. Definitely important to me as well.
    - Size; I will be using the sleeve to transpot my Z safely in my bagpack. Of course the sleeve should be 'thick enough' to prevent the Z from getting damaged, but from the other hand; I don't need a very thick 'carrying bag'-like sleeve. When I look at the VGP-CP22 you ordered I'm not sure how thick it is... This 'closing flap' does seem to make it 'unnecessarily' thick.
    - Money shouldn't be considered an issue.

    Anyone having a suggestion for me?

    ps. @ dimension6; do you know if that 'closing flap' works with magnets or does 'stick'?

    Here are some pictures I just took of the case. It uses velcro fasteners (which apparently are 1/3 as loud as normal ones), and is actually quite thin, as you can see.

    Man, I can't decide! I need a sleeve to safely put my Z in my backpack. Style does matter to me.

    I have waived Sony's "Smart Protection" (because it's to big for my needs) and the ZeroShock III (because of the looks). I first thought I'd go for a sleeve of SFbag.com as well, but now I'm wondering, does the SFbag you guys have been talking about (and of which a Z-size custommade model will be released shortly) look like this?;

    [IMG]

    Cause I'm pretty sure I don't want a 'sleeve-model' like that. It should at least cover the Z on all sides.

    The size of the [IMG] seems good, but I don't really like the design and am not sure yet I want a zipper or a 'stick flap' like here.

    At the moment I like the

    [IMG]

    the most, I think. Though I'd probably would prefer another brand if possible, cause everyone here is walking with this! (how silly I must be this is a factor!)

    Finally a question concerning this last one, the "Crumpler Schooly Hymn 13 inch", could anyone confirm that the 13 inch one really does fit perfectly on the Z. With perfect I mean perfect, and nothing else :)

    That is the sfbags sleeve I have been referring to, however they have multiple forms of it that are coming out. I personally am opting for the one with the flap so it is covered from all sides (a first for me). I feel the Z deserves four sided protection!

    It looks like this: [IMG]

    Ok, new developments in my sleeve choosing process;

    I'm currently doubting between Crumpler The Gimp: http://www.laptopstuff.co.uk/p/Crumpler_The_Gimp_Sleeve_-_Black.htm ;

    [IMG]

    and Incase: http://www.laptopstuff.co.uk/p/Incase_Neoprene_Sleeve_for_Macbook_Black.htm ;
    [IMG]
    Really the only factor affecting my decision at this point is; what sleeve fits the Z best. According to the 'what notebook sizes' fit this sleeve (scroll down to the bottom of the respective pages, the (backside of the) Z is too 'thick' for both sleeves! What do you think? Will the sleeves stretch? What sleeve will best fit the Z? Will the Z fit any of these sleeves? Thanks soo much for your insights here!

    And then something else; On the German website http://www.taschenkaufhaus.de/crumpler_laptopbags.html, they state two different version of 'the Gimp'; and it seems that the new one, the 'The New Gimp' will better fit the Z, because seems to be more focused on widescreen notebooks. However, when I Google for other (American) websites selling 'the New Gimp' I can't manage to find one. And this German website only sells 12 and 15 inch 'the new gimps', no 13!! :(

    Today I received my Tucano work_out bag and I think it is great. Totally small, well protected on the important edges, great quality and looks.

    http://www.mactune.de/product_info....rk-out-13--Macbook-Tragetasche--eisweiss.html

    Z fits perfect in width, in height it has some space, but it doesn't matter since the notebook is not wobbling around at all. Three pockets are enough for USB sticks, CD and of course the ac-adapter. You can use it as a sleeve with great protection, as bag with handles or a carrying bag with a belt, which give a lot of flexibility for different usages.

    I also ordered a Tucano Second Skin for 13.1 (Vaio Z) and this thing fits also perfect. I like the clean look and the quality is again superb too.

    http://www.mactune.de/product_info.php?info=p322_Tucano-Second-Skin-13-1--Notebook--grau.html

    I thin both products are great and absolutely durable and perfectly crafted. I think they are more classy then the Crumpler and little more "mature". Design is also very neat and contemporary but fashionable. If someone is interested I can post some pictures too.

    You got me definitely interested in the Second Skin as well! Like you pointed out, the Crumpler's style is a bit immature, and it doesn't really match the style of the Z.

    Still, what for me remains the most critical issue at this point is; will the sleeve fit perfectly? No moving around, no overstretching of the sleeve, no zipper possibly scratching the Z? So once you get the second skin, please let us know how it fits! Thanks in advance! :)

    edit; I now notice you already have received the Second Skin as well?! Cool! Does it really really fit perfectly??
    edit 2: After some searching around I get the impression there are two versions of the 13,1 inch Tucano Second Skin: a 'normal version' and a 'widescreen version'. (Compare http://www.tucanousa.com/product_p/bf-s-131.htm to http://cnet.nytimes.com/notebook-ac...014-6459_9-31520591.html?localShoppingView=1). The 'widescreen version' obviously seems the better choice for the Z. But what version do you have, ThreeD?

    Oh, I added the urls to my post in the meanwhile.

    Anyway; I'm so excited now, I'm just gonna order this one: http://www.tucanousa.com/product_p/bf-s-131-g.htm. Under 'features' it says "Fits most Widesreen 13.1" PC like a " Second Skin".". Ok, got me excited already there.

    Then I took a look at the picca's here: http://www.tucanousa.com/PhotoDetails.asp?ShowDESC=N&ProductCode=BF-S-131-G . Then go to the third picca (the one on the right). What do you see there, a Sony in it!! :D

    This hopefully is exactly what I am/was looking for! No reevaluation, I got it ordered!! I'll give you a review once I got it!

    my sleeve is red ;) these are no flaps, its more like a pocket with a strap inside, so it really covers the edges, which is really great. you have to pull the cover a bit, but it is very stretchy and works fine.

    Gotcha. With the internal pocket, is it quick to get the Z in and out or do you have to fiddle a bit with the corners and the strap? Looks like great protection, but I wonder if it would annoy me.

    I'm using sony's VGP-AMC1 neoprene case. The fit is not as snug as the SR or SZ, but it works. I mainly carry the notebook in my backpack so it suits my needs. Also, for those that dont want to spend the money for a sony case, register your notebook with sony within 30 days of purchase and get a 20% off coupon code for vaio accessories from sonystyle.com

    I went to a crumpler store today and tried this sleeve (as the one I would like to buy wasn't available)

    Gimp 13'' Special Edition
    [IMG]

    It perfectly fits the Z Serie so I think the normal Gimp Edition also does...however I ordered a Crumpler Hard Suit 13'' in the hope it will also fit the Vaio Z.

    The sony case is overpriced, but still, the smart protection case is one of the better cases i've seen for laptops in general. Also, it fits the SR snuggly and perfectly. My only concern...which applies for all of these notebook cases(Especially for the SR and Z) is that pulling it out by the front...which is pretty thin...may eventually do some kind of damage...then again, maybe im underestimating the build quality/durability of these laptops

    I figured we can start a thread exclusively on carrying cases for the Z series.

    Lightweight, sturdy, and fits the Z well I think should be the objective.

    Here are couple products on amazon:
    Sony VAIO Slim Notebook Carrying Case
    I know this one will fit the Z but I dont know how much room there is for the power adapter. If anybody has experience with this, please volunteer some information.

    Samsonite L35 Notebook Case
    This one obviously is bigger and will probably hold more than the previous Slim Case, but not sure how heavy this is.

    Good idea. We already have a thread like that. I'll add your post to it.

    Tucano makes good bags. I have one of the leather ones which makes it a bit heavy though. The nylon ones are lighter.
