can we add cleanig and protection cloth too, phil?

received my iSaver cloth today, fits perfect and only on the keyboard and is very good quality. every microfibre cloth will work, it might much cheaper but this one fits directly onto the keyboard. :)

The VGP-CCB3 Compact carrying case, does anyone know if the power adapter will also fit along with the laptop? Would be pointless to buy a case that fits the laptop nicely, but won't store the power adapter. Looking at the picture, I don't see where you can store the power adapter. I hope I am wrong, 'cause the price seems pretty good.

Another +1 on the Tucano Second Skin 13.1". I just stopped by my local mall's luggage shop to pick one up. Luckily the associate there allowed me to try it out before purchasing and the fit was perfect. The inner sleeve will take some time to get used to as it requires some finesse to accommodate the Z without my fingernails scratching the top (maybe I just need practice). Overall though I highly recommend it.

I also noticed those Tucano Work Out bags there and those look equally nice if you want something with a bit more protection along with pockets and handles.

    Thanks for the tips!

I like the STM Evolution small for the Z. It's lined and protects the Z even with a rain hood. The Backpack is very comfortable.

I already have a Crumpler Bag with sleeve that i used for my SZ. I'm looking to carry on using this for my Z but due to the difference in size the Z isn't fitting very snug at all. Therefore i was looking to buy an additional skin that fits the Z perfectly but still fits into my existing case.
i was looking at the SFbag cases, but perhaps something a bit softer would be more suitable: can anybody recommend me one?
Would a custom case from wrappers.typepad.com be the best option?

PS - ThreeD: Where did you buy your iSaver cloth?

I wrote Debbie from wrappers.typepad.com this morning. She answered:

"We'll have new sleeves up this week, I will send you the link once the page goes up."

So maybe we don't need to buy a custom case.

I ordered the Tucano Second Skin 13.1" from Academic Superstore (academicsuperstore.com) for $20. I got it. But am sorely disappointed with the sleeve. Really cheesy and unclassy logos "storage folder for notebook' written on the sleeve itself. And the fitting is pretty bad too. In my opinion, it doesn't fit any better than the Sony Neoprone case. I have that as well, and I think I will stick to that instead (I got that for $23), as it looks much more elegant.

My understanding is also that they're going to be doing a case just for the Z. I hope so.... because I'm waiting for it to!

Standard dimension doesn't fit. You'll have to customize, and even then, its not perfect.

I got mine in the mail today and am picking up my Z later. ShaggyMac didn't have the right dimensions when I wanted to order it last week so they added 'em to the custom sizes. I ordered 12 3/8 x 7 1/2. I'll let you know how it fits.

ShaggyMac is only accurate to 1/8 of an inch, no bigger or smaller.

I just posted my review of Waterfield Designs SleeveCase.

In a nutshell, it's not just a well-built, well-designed sleevecase but it's also able to be converted into a case as well with the optional straps and accessories pouch.

Built of high-grade ballistic nylon, it's durable, water resistant and looks pretty darned cool. There's lots of nice touches and they use quality parts on everything.

What if the Z has the large-capacity battery? Will it still fit in this sleeve case?

Unfortunately, I don't have a large capacity battery right now so I can't answer that question. I'll be getting one in the next month or so and will report back. As of right now, I'd guess that it will fit but might be tight.

has anybody heard anything from wrappers.typepad.com yet? They said the Z page would be up in a day or two when they emailed me, and it's still not there. I need a case fairly urgently so i may well start looking for alternatives.

My VGP-CKZ1 (aka 'VAIO Smart Protection slip case') has just arrived and looks quite nice, although I'm in the office without my Z at the moment so can't check the fit right now. I'm guessing it'll be perfect fit, as its a purpose made case.

It looks quite thick as others have mentioned, but should provide good protection and a better fit than the average generic 13.3" case...

I hadn't twigged from the (practically non-existant) online blurb that this case can also accommodate the Z with extended battery. This is explicitly mentioned in the Sony blurb on the packaging and there are two sets of magnets in the flap - one for normal battery usage and a second set for the extended battery, allowing the flap to close with space at the back for the bigger battery. Sorry if this info has already been posted.

Oh, and the VGP-CKZ1 fits perfectly in my man bag, which is nice. (I've got a brown leather messenger bag, the Jost Unstripe - nice plain looking bag.) Should be room for PSU, cable, mouse, etc in there too... once I've cleared out the crap, anyway!

Let me know if you want photos and I'll try to oblige.

May I ask you, it the sleeve also protect well from down side? Because my bag is all soft leather and it doesn't have any protecting hard down side, so when notebook is in it, every time I put my bag somewhere, it hit the nb directly. And many of the sleeves around are protecting mainly from the sides...

I have the smart protection case for the SR, which aside from dimensions is the same case, color, technology, everything. It's a great case and it has a very snug perfect fit. When in the case, you can hold it upside down with the flap open and it wont fall out, it's a perfect fit WITH the standard battery. As such, it wont fit with the extended battery at all.

Then there's a difference from the Z case, which is designed to accommodate the Z with normal or extended battery. Sony clearly states as much on the packaging for the case, in fact.
With the extended battery fitted, the 'sticking out' bit goes out of a little cut-out section on one side of the case and the flap wraps around it. As mentioned previously, there are two sets of magnets in the flap so that it still fastens OK even when wrapping around the extended battery. ;)

I've been trying out some different sleeves sizes on my Z for Debbie at Wrappers. I've just given her the feedback she needs from testing them out, so she'll now be producing these sleeves for the Z.

I have to say the cases she sent out for me to test were beautifully made. Very compact, very light, and really nice fabrics. They cover and protect the Z without taking up loads of space in a bag. No zips or fasteners, the laptop just slides in and there's a flap at the end you can put over.

Debbie told me to expect pricing similar to the MacBook Air sleeves, and the pics on that page give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

    http://wrappers.typepad.com/

Highly recommended (I'm going to order a couple).

Hello all. I'll have an update on the Waterfield cases soon (maybe tomorrow). They sent me a bunch to test and I picked up a large capacity battery on the weekend so now I can test different configurations. As of right now, the size I used in my review (25-17) in horizontal orientation does have room for the large capacity battery.

Yeah, 25-17 isn't on their site yet until they have enough confirmation that it's the perfect size over other existing sizes. You can always e-mail them directly that you want to order that size. I'll have an updated review soon after I take all my photos and measurements. I'll be contacting them as well to get the 25-17 size added (although there's a chance they might rename the model number).

If I'm going to be carrying it inside my backpack all day, should I opt for the Tucano Second Skin or the Zeroshock III (from eBay)? I'm guessing that the SS would be far lighter and thinner?

if im not mistaken, Tucano are the nice looking, but useless cases that everyone with a macbook has...they sold them at my college(when i went there). Go for a case with padding at least...

Again, Tumi makes solid bags, Sony Smart Protection is good, the ZeroShock is good, and there are plenty of others...but dont buy a "sleeve" that just protects it from "scratches"... you want something that gives it shock protection in case its pressed up against books in your bag...or something else occurs. So something thats hard shelled or has foam is preferable...

I can't tell what's what from the pictures - all of which seem to be of the 13-2. What, exactly, is the 13-2? A modified 13-1 to fit the Z with the LARGE battery? And how does the 25-17 differ from the 13-2 ??? Will these show up on the SFBags site at some point?

The only reference to a 13-2 is for the Macbook Air, which has dimensions differing (particularly thickness-wise) from the Z:
    "13-2 MacBook Air 12.8 8.9 0.16-0.76 13"

    Just a heads up:

I am about to post a Japanese market Z case, the VGP-CP22 in the for sale section. I paid $58.99 shipped from Japan.
It is sealed in a plastic SONY bag from Japan and includes the case for the Z and also a small case for power supply or whatever. There is discussion of the VGP-CP22 in this thread. You will get it from me in 2-3 days Priority Mail instead of 3+ weeks from Japan. If you are interested before I post the for sale thread, just PM me.

Again, this is a factory sealed bag, SONY brand VGP-CP22 sold only in Japan for the Z models.

I won't say what I want here since this is not an official "for sale" posting, but I would simply like to get my money out of it. I am going to be using a backpack or larger case for my Z.

I am a longtime forum member and have a 170 EBAY feedback with zero negatives. Check out: aamsel on EBAY.

    Just send me a PM.

    Thanks.

Well, here are the pictures of my new laptop case. I'm extremely happy to see that it fits in it very well, almost as if it was designed with this laptop in mind. It is nearly a snug fit, for example, I could probably fit a finger on the side of the laptop when it is in the bag, but not much else. For this style of case, I think you want to be able to easily grab your laptop out of the case, and with this in mind, the case is a perfect fit. There is absolutely no wiggle room when the laptop is inserted into it. When you shake the case, the laptop remains still and firm and does not move. There is a little bit of space at the top, but this is to be expected for such a wide profile laptop. I'll let you judge for yourself if this is acceptable in the pictures I have posted below.

I searched long and hard for a case that would fit the z well. I did not want a case where the z would shake or move around in. I also wanted a case that had a decent amount of padding and protection, so I could throw it in my backpack and not have to worry about it too much. On the inside of this Timbuk2 case there is a thick corduroy-like lining, which in my opinion will provide ample padding for my laptop.

There are pockets on the front, where you could bring a few additional accessories if you wanted. It also comes with a strap that you can attach to the bag so that you can use it messenger-style. Overall, I'm very happy with it. If anyone has questions just let me know.
