I'm using the VGP-CKZ2 leather carrying case and it is an absolutely excellent sleeve. It protects it well and still maintains the slim profile of the Z.

I'm a minimalist in what I carry -- we're talking keys, wallet, pen, sidearm most of the time, and cell phone -- and I'll be picking up a Sony Z540 shortly.
I'm looking for the cleanest, most comfortable way to carry the notebook and power brick. Would like to avoid any large, cumbersome bags or any such thing.
Any suggestions? -
Hope the following thread helps:

Good luck. -
For anyone catching this thread: thoughts as to a barely-more-than-sleeve way to carry that allows for the power brick to be carried around if necessary, too? -
sfbags.com - esp the vertical one, slimmer - get the smallest size (they do recommend which ones will fit your Z with a case)

The Z has a very stout profile due to the hinge type and extra wide screen. I've found that the stick type ac adapter fits in the main compartment WITH the laptop in the bag I had from my old SZ (or pretty much any 13.3" laptop case).
But I most prefer to just use the leather cover, VGPCVZ1, and just carry my notebook around like, well, a notebook. You can really through it around with that cover, shove it in your luggage, whatever.
By the way, what do you mean by "sidearm"? -
Here's one option, but pricey.
http://www.sfbags.com/products/hardcase/hardcase.htm
It's made for the macbook but should fit the Z with ease. Definitely looks nice and specifically meant to travel light. If money was not object, this would be my choice. -
I use the leather sleeve made specifically for the Z. I use a messenger bag when I'm out and about.

It's been awhile since I last had my Z690 in hand before I returned it. Are you saying that the Z5xx / Z6xx and its power adapter could fit together in Sony's own CVZ1 / CVZ2 or CKZ1 / CKZ2? -
No, I think he's referring to the CKSZ case. The CKZ1 or 2 is definitely too tight to fit the adapter. I already ordered the CKSZ case off ebay, based on input in the Z bags thread. I should be able to verify this early next week when the bag arrives; unless Drvec can post some pics for you.
-
Short of a sleeve with a strap this is the next best thing, its small and awesome and fits my Z perfectly. I can't recommend it enough.
If you want some more pics of it, I'll be more then glad. -
up! up! and away!

Can anyone provide the dimensions with the Z inside of the CKZ1 case? I am looking to purchase a carry bag that I can use with the Z inside of CKZ1 case. Unfortunately I don't have the CKZ1 case yet as still awaiting arrival of it via the Mobility rebate. Appreciate it anyone can provide width, length an height.
Thanks -
i went out and found a sleeve yesterday at the sony store. $25 for the sleeve plus a sleeve for the power brick as well. says it will fit up to 13.3" laptops but i found it fit the Z rather snug. also i bought the tucano 13" second skin "9-dot" hours before finding the vaio sleeve. that one was $20 and has nice cushion as well. has a lip inside for you to slip the laptop under. i was just looking for a sleeve that i could put the laptop in and put it in my backpack. doesnt seem like it would protect much if dropped, but my main criteria for a sleeve was it to be light and small enough to just put in my backpack and go. i saw the ckz1 there and looks like it'd protect the laptop very well when dropped. couple pics here, hope this helps some people avoid going through the 37 page thread lol.

Hello,
has anyone any experience with the STM small rogue backpack with the Vaio Z?
I have seen it in a store and found it very good except for one "feature" that to me sounds like a flaw: the interior storage area for the laptop does not rest up against the back of the pack but instead it's located at the front.
This mean that possible book, etc... in the main storage area would put pressure on the laptop.
Obviously this is just my guess but because it is a pricey backpack I would like to hear the opinions of someone who has it.
I would also really appreciate advices on other small backpacks for a 13 inches laptop.
Thanks -
Too bad the Sony case above only opens 3/4 of the way. I prefer a slip that opens all the way.
-
how long did it take for them to arrive? I have also ordered one from that site, but it hasnt even arrived in two weeks... -
Hey guys, i'm planning on buying the new Z when its available and i decided if i'm spending that much money on a laptop i'm going to need a heavy duty case to carry it in. So the case i was thinking about carrying it in is a Pelican 1090cc or the Pelican 1080CC if the Z could fit. I just had a few questions, will the Z and the adapter fit or just the Z? and also will this case because it is padded, add to much pressure on the screen causing it to leave permanent marks for the keyboard or palm rest? Also if anyone has any other suggestions for a compact heavy duty case that would be help full.
Website:

http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1080CC With the computer lining
http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1090 Without the computer lining, has the pick and pluck foam (i choose what squares to take out to fit my laptop)
Round up:
1. Will the Z fit in the 1080cc?
2. Will the Z fit in the 1090CC?
3. Will the adapter fit in either or both?
4. Computer lining or Pick and pluck foam?
5. Will the pressure from the padding cause enough force for the screen to be permanently marked?
Thanks guys for the help -
I think all sleeves are handmade, which might be quite time consuming.
Perhaps wait for another week and in case they haven't arrived until then, ask Debbie at [email protected] -

Can't say much about the pelican, I have used the targus 13 inch vertical messenger since I purchased my Z, Very satisified, the bag has "good form" and cushioned. fits the z perfect, it does have a couple of other pockets for mouse, phone etc..very good design... and price is very good...they are still priced $40-50....

they look really handy and nice..but cost came out over $100... yes if money is not the object then it is my first choice too!!! -

The case I've been using on my Vaio Z-590, and now with my new Vaio Z-790, is the Incase Sleeve designed for the Apple macbook air. Great quality case... and it fits my AC adapter, portable bluetooth mouse, HDMI cable, and extra batteries.

Speck used to make a hardshell top for the SZ.
I contacted them and they don't have plans to produce this for the Z, but this seems like an idea solution to prevent screen bruising.
I encourage everyone here to contact speck and request that this be made.

bit of a shame that it'll have to cover the nice carbon fiber lid, but beats having a bruised screen.
I'm also going to contact sony to see if they'd be willing to produce a hardshell case for their Z line.
Here's the message I posted in their contact form:
"Really big fan of the Vaio Z. There's really no other laptop out there like it. My issue is: the display is prone to bruising. I've got a VGP-CKZ1 case for my Z, but even so, after 2 months of delicate use my Z, it still got bruised.
Speck used to make a hardshell case for the SZ. I'm wondering if it would be possible for Sony collaborate with them to produce a hardshell case for the Z. Or create one yourself. See: http://bit.ly/9DKLBn"

Erik Griss, Customer Service at Speck Design is forwarding on my message to the design team at Speck. -
I'm currently using Brenthaven Edge 1 as my sleeve/bag. It's awesome and very protective. it's meant for the macbook but the fit is really flush.

I've just upgraded form my old TZ to the new Z and have been looking for a sleeve but can't seem to find one the right size.
The Crumpelr GIMP 14" seems close to the right size but it is 1-2cm too big on one dimenion.
Are there any other Uk Z oweners that can recommend decent sleeves? -
You can get Z sleeves here:

I just bought the sleeve and case from the SonyStyle store I passed by today. We will see how well they work when I travel next.

I found this case today and I was actually considering getting one:

Did anyone try their cases with your Vaio? Any impressions? -
No I have the wrappers one.

For my new Z I'm using the InCase Neoprene Plus sleeve for the Apple MacBook Pro 13. Side-to-side fit is just about perfect; top-to-bottom there is about a 3/4" gap. For my needs -- extra protection inside my too-big Booq bag which was designed for 15" laptops, and very occasional use by itself -- it fits the bill. The interior material is velvety smooth. Perhaps my only gripe is that for a fairly spartan sleeve, it's priced a bit high at US$40. I may consider going back to Booq's own line of semi-rigid Vyper sleeves if I decide I need more protection.
-
Well I'm using original Vaio Smart protection for over a year now and I have to say it's the best case I saw.
-
I called the local Sony store (I live in Canada) and they told me they have two original sleeves/cases for the Z Series:
- leather case (for the last gen Z, no longer available online) for (gasp!) $199
- neoprene sleeve for $29 or $39
They are now giving 25% off these prices because the store is closing down. I'm not sure though if even after the discount it is still reasonable to spend $150 on a sleeve... Does anyone have one of these leather cases? Are they worth the price? -
there was this sweet case someone pointed out that was exclusive to the japanese market it seems. I remember it being black with red accents i believe, does anyone have a link to it? It's impossible for me to navigate the jp sony style site
-
Sure. But I don't find it anyhow special...what more even if it's just for Japan, it's made in US...what an irony.
-
Thanks man! if it wasn't ironic, it wouldn't be Sony!
sigh, i actually like it, wish we could get it here in the states
perfect to slip into my tumi messenger bag

Bumping this back up top. Z owners....what sleeves or bags are you getting?

Thoughts on this? I'm looking for a smaller backpack that I could take to work and to grad school. For some reason, the wing grew on me.

I bought the Sony VGP-CP24 and it fits well.

Could you show some pictures? I have probably the previous gen of this case and I'm thinking about buying the new one for my Z as well
Does it also protects from sides, or just mainly from front and back again?
