No, it is a Sony sleeve in a Swiss messenger bag. Don't care for the messenger bag too much. It was the one I hated the least when I needed one on a trip.
-
is the cover sleeve enough for front cover stratch? It cost £ 99 quite expensive. Need a review of this before I buy this sleeve.
Thanks -
Sorry, I don't work for Sony
It has been available for years, search and I'm sure you will find something. -
Yeah, I love that case as well. That's why I would be curious if VGP-CP24 is the new version of that...
-
Can you give the model number for this case? It looks exactly like what I'm looking for, hope that I could somehow hunt it down from Canada
-
This looks to be designed for the new z
Looks good but not sure about practicality

It does look nice, but since it's only a cover it doesn't protect the sides of the laptop. It's more like a portfolio type thing. And the price... ahem... not sure if it's worth almost $150...
-
Does that bag allow for other items, like books? It looks like it may, but I want to be sure before I pursue something like that.
I'm looking for something smallish that I can take to work and have no issues transporting it from class to class (I'm a permanent building sub while getting my certification), but something that will have extra room to fit a couple notebooks (actual notebooks, not laptops) and other small items. -
I came across a reference to the WaterField Designs sleeves in an ancient post in this very thread for the older model Z. I took the plunge and ordered it for my new Z last week and got it early this week.
The 13-3 size fits the new Z (with standard battery) perfectly. It is a snug fit, but does not feel too tight. I guess if you want to be picky, there is about 1cm of extra space on the side with the flap. I ordered mine with the flap for all-round protection.
Personally, I liked this sleeve the best since there are no zippers to scratch the Z, the inside of the sleeve is a very soft neoprene, and with the velcro closure, I can take my laptop out fairly quickly without fumbling with the zippers.
Previously, I was using the Tucano Second Skin for the Macbook Air with my Z for a while, but I found that the elastic cover that prevents the zipper from scratching the laptop is a hassle to deal with since you have to stretch it over the laptop, then make sure it is flat before you can close the sleeve. -
Mind sharing a link where u bought that?
Thanks. -
I got this tonight.

Going to try it out...I need something with a bunch of pockets for school. But, as I work in many classrooms at an elementary school, I also need it to be lightweight and not too bulky. This seems to be okay. If not, I'll take it back. -
Ok folks, now I'm getting multiple PM's on this.
The case ONLY HOLDS THE LAPTOP. No books, no power supply, just the laptop. The second pic is the case in a SEPARATE MESSENGER BAG I PURCHASED SEPARATELY.
I really don't know how else to explain this.
I purchased the case from Fry's for my first Z a year or two ago. It is a Sony model, although I don't recall the part number. -
Okay. I didn't see where you specified that. I saw the pictures and the "Huge fan." and nothing else. ; )
Thanks for clarifying. I appreciate it.
As far as my bag goes...well, it's too tall for the device. I'll likely be taking it back. I don't want a sleeve...I mean, I could get one, but I want a bag.
Back to the drawing board, most likely... -
Lol, to be honest, it took me a while to figure out what the pictures represent too
Anyways, I really like the case, anyone here knows what the model number or the name of this product is? I'd really appreciate any info.
-
I was actually considering that neoprene sleeve as well. How is that working for you? Does it provide a reasonable protection? Is the zipper separated from the laptop? Maybe you can post some pictures (if I'm not asking for too much, that is
)?
-
Thanks a lot, appreciate it
So if I can see correctly, the laptop doesn't get in contact with the zipper, right?
-
yeah its far enough, that it shouldnt be a concern.
-
I was actually talking about the zipper being lined from inside. Usually most sleeves have an extra layer of fabric/padding around the zipper from inside to make sure that it won't scratch the laptop. Sorry if my previous post was unclear
-
Nice looking case ZoinksS2k - what's the code for that one?
(Also which version Z do you have - the original or the new one?)
Cheers,
S -
This is the last I'll say on the matter.
Good hunting. -
Sony VAIO VGP-CKZ1 this is the model number on the case....It has been discountinued but I noticed some thru google search.
-
Has anyone checked out this?

Or how about this? I've seen this a lot (as they market this bag for any 13" laptop). I can't really get any reviews on it.

This looks really good, a bit pricey though. It's about the cost of a SSD, or about 7 tanks of gas (this is what the credit crisis does to people):
-
I think the post you referenced was to one of their sleeves and not the hardcase here in the picture.
I e-mailed them earlier this week regarding the hardcase and whether or not they knew if a Z would fit in it (or if they had any feedback from anyone who ordered one for a Z) and haven't received a response.
I've seen several people link to the hardcase, but haven't seen any comments from anyone who actually owns one - before I spend that amount on a case, I want to make sure it fits! -
I'm going to order the VGPCKZ2 leather case:
-
While I am about to spend on a beautiful $2.5k Z, I can't justify the price of that case... Can you get some shots of it and some impressions when you get it?
-
Sure no problem. I've just spent £1650 on a notebook, it makes sense to purchase a good case that is designed to hold it snugly and safely inside (the case is compatible with VPC-Z & VGN-Z models).
-
I found this:
http://www.amazon.com/Targus-13-Ult...f=sr_1_46?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1271156940&sr=1-46
Designed for 13" laptops. What do you guys think? -
Seems pretty thick, but then again, it depends what you're looking for. I, for that matter, am looking for something smaller, either a sleeve or a bag like the one shown here before:
http://www.sfbags.com/products/hardcase/hardcase.htm#top -
I'm not gonna read through this long thread to see if someone posted this before (which I'm sure they have), but I just bought a sleeve for my Z from SFBags.com. This thing feels bulletproof and it's the perfect fit. A little pricey, but it's TOTALLY worth it because of the unbelievable quality. I read on the site that someone dropped their mbp down an escalator (while going up) and the sleeve did a great job of protecting it from the sharp edges of the escalator. For an expensive laptop like the z11, it's definitely worth it. I almost wish I got a strap. I did get a flap though. GREAT sleeve.
-
Just more support for sfbags.com.
The basic sleeve for the Sony Z is $39 + shipping... that's about the price of the other sleeves I've found in various retail stores. It also offers a lot more protection compared to the CaseLogic or Tuscano sleeves I've tried.
However, you can go all out and configure one for over $100 which has a flap, shoulder strap and "piggyback" add-on bag
I liked it enough that I ordered their "Cargo" bag to replace my Timbuk2 messenger bag. Should be arriving tomorrow -
If I am going to pay $100 for a sleeve, I think I could get more... How does it cost $25 to add a pocket?
-
what size specs did you get for the Z? if you choose the sleeve based on their size recommendation it comes out to $42 for the basic bag, do one of the smaller versions fit better?
-
First, I apologize if this has been covered previously in this thread, but I couldn't find it (but then, I rarely find what I'm looking for with the Search function).
I'm looking for a simple sleeve to protect a (not-yet-ordered) new Z with extended battery. I have a perfectly good bag, I just need something that will protect the computer (with extended battery attached) inside the bag. What sleeves are you using with the extended battery? TIA -
I just purchased this on Amazon along with my Z116.. you are absolutely right, if your paying $2k for a laptop, a $100 case is definitely a no brainer.
I gotta say, I've had numerous remarks on how professional this case looks. People thought that I was carrying a corporate portfolio
Of course, I'm just a college student but this makes all the Apple lovers carrying nylon sleeves look like 14yr old kids... hah.
personally, this case is a winner for sony. However, one thing I have to say is that the leather is DEFINITELY not as durable as nylon... it will scratch and leave tear marks... does anyone know if this is real leather btw?
I've been thinking of getting some leather cleaner to take care of it.
Other than that, I don't think the new Z deserves anything less. The case provides the perfect fit and protection.
Good luck
-
It looks substantial - i.e. weight-advantage-negating
How heavy is that thing?
I'm just going to skin the lids, and that's it. -
I just ordered one of these today, I'll have a full report back in about a week.
And... since i can't post URLs, shaggymac.com, 13" widescreen laptop screen protector. Model SPaStd13w. -
It's about 300g, it's perfect! It arrived yesterday and my older Z fits perfectly inside and so does my new Z. It cost me £100 but it feels every bit a premium case. I'll upload some photos later. -
Three Hundred Grams ?!?!?!?!
That's a whole battery!
Enjoy your new case anyhoo. -
Can you tell us which size you picked?
-
The size I got for my Z is the "13-3" size.
This is with the standard battery. Perfect fit. If you want, i can take some pictures of it inside the case once I get home. -
Hm, according to their website the size corresponding to the Z Series is "25-16" for the horizontal and "25-17" for the vertical. But you're saying that "13-3" fits perfectly. I'm having a hard time understanding their system here.
-
It is a really silly system (sizes could have made a lot more sense). Can we get some photos of the Z with the case on it (and the case in general?)
-
Oh wow... that is weird. I don't understand the case naming system myself. When I ordered my case on April 5th, the site said to use 13-3 for the Z with standard battery. That's the size I have. I also ordered it with the flap.
Here are some photos (sorry for the crappy iPhone pics)
The sleeve itself has neoprene padding on the inside, and ballistic cloth on the outside, so it has about 5mm of padding all around. When the laptop is inside the sleeve, there is virtually no extra space around the sides, or on top or below the laptop. However, there is just under 1" extra space next to the flap when the laptop is fully inside the sleeve. See photo5.jpg for how this looks.
The photos I posted are of the Z side by side with the sleeve. Putting the laptop ontop of the sleeve squishes it down and makes it look a lot larger than it really is

Thank you for that. I would like a nice good quality case, but I can't decide if i want the leather sony one or soemthing more like this.
-
I almost bought the Sony leather one too... I think it is over $100? You get a discount on the sonystyle store for registering your laptop too.
However, when I was looking for sleeves, the Sony one wasn't in stock, so I ordered this instead! I'm quite satisfied with it, though I did go a little overboard... I ended up with the flap, d-rings, shoulder strap and even the piggyback add-on, so it ended up being almost as much as the Sony one! I sometimes use it as the only bag if I don't want the bulk of carrying my messenger.
The leather one would definitely look more professional though, if that matters. The WaterField sleeves are more casual. Anyone out there with feedback on the Sony Leather case? I'm curious myself
-
Just picked this up this afternoon, love it!

i geeked for the Tom Bihn Ristretto - cocoa/olive. not cheap, but exactly what i wanted: a scaled down version of the old kensington vertical saddlebag i used to use. more than enough room to bop around meetings all day with the Z, the charger plus iphone cable to tether- plus a tiny ethernet switch for wired conference rooms with crappy 3G reception. I could carry more in the bag, but there's no need at work; on company travel i might be able to avoid the big backpack now and avoid the 'travel shoulder' soreness i seem to get more and more.
nice padded laptop pocket with neoprene lining on one side and an internal padded flap that doesn't fasten anywhere, just sort of tucks in over the Z, making it easy to get it in and out of the bag quick.
anyway, worth a look for those wanting something a little more versatile than a bare sleeve-plus-strap like the SFBags one. By the time you add a flap, a decent strap and a 'piggyback' thing to that sleeve, the ristretto price doesn't look too bad.
