Hi I've got a new C series 15.5 inch Vaio, upgrading from an FZ series.
What I miss the most is the hardware volume/media keys. The C series has ASSIST, WEB, and VAIO buttons, which I find completely useless. I don't see why anyone would put these useless buttons instead of media control buttons.
Anyway, my question is, vaio control centre only lets you configure the "VAIO" button, and you can only pick from two different apps, so is there any way to hack the function of these three buttons to allow media control?

Bump... anyone?

If you have the VAIO utilities installed, FN+F2, FN+F3 and FN+F4 provide volume controls.

I know... but I was wondering if I can use those for other controls such as skipping tracks.

Hey thanks for your great idea, I implemented these functions in my universal VAIO S-Button laucher tool (open source) you find here or in my sig:

It does exactly what you asked for. Feel free to ask and share your experience!

Brilliant! This works perfectly with Winamp.
Is there no way to also configure the WEB key? -
If you provide info what program (path) gets executed upon a WEB button press, I can integrate that into the Tool.

I'm trying to figure that out but I don't think it's as straightforward as the other two.
When the active window is a browser window or tab, the WEB button refreshes that active window to the browser's home page - eg in Firefox it will load the "firefox start page" even though it has been configured to show a blank page on startup.
When the active window is not a browser, it loads a new browser window.
