Does someone ordered this or a similar configuration?
Intel® CoreTM i7-4500U 1,8 GHz
Windows 8
256 GB SATA Flash SSD
12 GB 1600 MT/s DDR3L-SDRAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 735M 2 GB
39,5cm LED, 2880x1620
I can't remember that someone who ordered the GT 735M 2GB with 2880x1620 got his Vaio until now. Is that right?
Also I can't find any Tests or youtube-videos for the hi-res Version.
Ah, germany, if that is important.
-
Anyone have the 2880 x 1620 high res model yet, and can comment on it's performance and viewing capabilities?
-
I don't have my order yet. To my knowledge no one has the 15A with the 2880x1620 screen yet. I ordered
i7, 750gb hybrid HDD, 16GB RAM, nvidia 735M 2 GB, 2880x1620 screen, ntrig digitizer pen.
Have to wait until Tuesday to see if my order has been delayed again.

I ordered a similar configuration, also from Germany, havn't received mine yet.
-
I did it, and it seems does not work. I still do not see the fan setting option in the vaio control center, but the laptop does show to be quieter.
-
Thanks!!
Have you tried the latest BIOS? 15A Bios Update
Word from the sony forums that it's working for some (most?) people to tame the fan. ( Sony Forum) -
Yes, that was the latest update. I installed it twice just in case the first time it did not install it correctly, and the second time it told me I already had the latest bios.
After updating the bios, I still do not see the option in the vaio control center to adjust fan rate, but overall the fan is quieter. -
Did you try this as well?

Great! They told me mine will sent on Tuesday too. So I think that date isn't worth anything.
-
Yeah, so far every Tuesday I get an email telling me of my "updated" shipping date.
-
I also ordered my Flip quite early, a 15 with the hires display and nvidia gpu. I've also been keeping an eye out for reviews of the hires model, and it seems someone actually recieved his, with similar specs:
Re: The Sony Vaio Flip and its noisy fan - Page 20 - Sony's Community Site
Like many here, my order was delayed several times but delivery is now "promised" to be the 29th. Still, I'm expecting further delays, but the post above gives me some hope. -
It seems the customization option is up again on the us store. There's now options for PCIe ssd's on the flip 13

Has anyone else done the optimizations and BIOS updates and has got good results regarding the fan?
Even if the fan is quite now, do the BIOS updates also stop the fan erratic behavior; does it still run for long periods of time even with the machine at low temperatures?
I think I would like to go with the flip 14 or 15.
At my local BB they didn’t have the 15 on display, does it feel much heavier then the flip 14?
I wont be walking around that much with it, i'll just be moving it from room to room withing the same building.
Let say I want to use the computer in my lap for 2 to 3 hours, doing some surfing, watching a video, M Office work, that kind of thing, nothing power hungry, would the flip get too warm or hot to the point that it would be uncomfortable to have it in my lap?
Thanks in advance for your responses. -
The 15 looks much larger than the 14 but it really wasn't that much heavier.
-
Hey Guys.
Anybody that owns a flip care to comment on what is said about the flip's screen panel here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/735166-yoga-2-pro-owners-thread-142.html
Very curious to see what others have to say. -
As i mentioned in the other post, I don't think its a good idea to do so.

Don't you all think it'd be better to stop having two general threads for the same computer? People just keep posting the same things on both, and on the long run it's just a waste of time to keep watch on both.
In my opinion this thread was mainly for discussion of rumors regarding the Flip before its release. Now that it has been released I'd propose using just the owners' thread.

Thank you TS. I agree with you. But just to clarify, I was not asking people to post a comment on that thread, but rather posting a comment regarding the Flip's screen on this thread so I can get a different perspective from people that owns the Flip.
Thanks again for all your post. Very helpful:thumbsup: -
Finally you order from the german shop again. It seems that in the normal sony store the 15A is still unavailable.
Considering the biggest problems of the 13A (fan and battery) the best option seems to be the 14A. It has a bigger battery and hopefully the fan noise is reduced with the BIOS updates. -
I looked at a 13, 14 and 15 at Best Buy (all with 1080 screens) and I didn't notice any appreciable fall off. I have an old Acer Timeline (with a TN panel) and the falloff is so bad you can see the difference at the edges just because of the normal angle of view, so I'm very aware of the potential issue.
-
Thank you!
-
Can the fan speed be reduce in BIOS, that way if it runs all the time, at least it could be a little quieter and eat less battery?
-
Why should I pick up an Vaio Flip instead of Yoga Pro 2?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk -
Vaio Flip has an active Digitizer and the keyboard keeps clean while in tablet mode..duh!
-
I have a bit different kind of question regarding CPU fan. Some of you said that the fan is quiet, others that it's not. I'm in the second group. When the fan is running, its sound is kind of whistling, very annoying.
Could some of you who don't have problems with the fan can also hear such high pitched sound when the fan is spinning faster (i.e. in standard or performance mode set in vaio control center)? -
- different possible screen resolution (13.3, 14 & 15 inch against 13.3 only in Yoga)
- no keyboard exposed in tablet mode in Sony
those are 2 advantages of vaio -
So how is the battery life for the 14"? Is it hard to achieve ~ 6 hours?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk -
Let's take a Flaip 14A with similar configuration like the 13A (i5, 8GB, SSD). The 14A has ~30% bigger battery. The 13A runs for like 5.5 hours. So the 14A should run for at least 7 hours.

Is anyone using the Targus powered USB 3.0 docking station with the Flip 13A? I was curious if Targus' supplied tips fit the 13A. Thanks.
Miraculously my Flip 13A order has gone from "Shipping" on the Sony website to to "Out for delivery" on the courier website in 4 days.... -
yesterday a mail saying my shipping date got pushed back by a week, now I finally have a date:
TNT will deliver my SONY order - 02 Dec 2013
15A with high res screen -
Same Here, finally got the TNT tracking
Delivery estimated for 2 dec .
Supprt talking crap : It's coming from Puddong International in Shangai not Japan.
cant wait!!!!!!!!! -
I was this >< close to buying that a few weeks ago, but held back due to the plug/port on the Flip 13a being different. if it shows up as a Black Friday special somewhere I just may get it to test if it will work with one of the supplied plugs.

Custom ordering for all 3 flip models is online again in the EU

Ditto
Normally would be hoping it gets here on Friday but I'm at a business event. Hoping the weekend goes quickly.

Just received my new Flip 15 today with Discrete graphics, 4500U, 16Gb Ram and 128 ssd instead of 256. They messed up my order and after being on the phone with them for 4 hours (not knowledgeable Customer Care) I have to return the unit for a full refund and then I might be able to place a new order on their website. When I asked them if I could keep the unit and get refunded for the sad price difference, they said that they could only offer 40 dollars instead of the extra 200 I paid for. I was so excited and happy to keep the machine but their support is really the worst I have ever experienced. I was also told that the unit is being shipped from Japan but it was actually shipped from Shanghai.
-
Did you receive the Hi Res display version ?
I ordered mine on the 10th October and the Sony site finally went to "shipping" yesterday. I wonder when I'll receive it. -
I'm wondering about this too. Trying to still decide between the normal res vs. high res. If anyone has any pictures/videos showing the higher resolution one, please let me know.
-
Well, I can answer my own question. I received my Flip 13A in the UK two days earlier than estimated by the courier (TNT Express).
The power tip is actually quite clever in that there is a grooved ring around the end to catch but not clasp the tip. Far too clever for an off-the-shelf solution like the Targus powered dock. Well I guess I know how I'm going to spend my voucher from Sony for the original shipping delay - for a second power adapter.
And even with all current updates and 8.1, the fan in Standard mode is certainly on constantly. I guess those of you whom it doesn't bother are simply using it in environments that you wouldn't notice. Me too. So I' very happy with it. Spent the day handwriting( and OCR'ing) annotations on graphs pulled from Powerpoint using screen capture in One Note.....twospirits and SandySpit like this. -
I just order the 1920-1200 resolution. Mine arrived the day after I received the tracking number although they had told me that I would receive it in mid Dec. By the way, the fan was still loud after every single update.
-
I ordered the 15A and the sony site said it was "in production". Now the text has dissapeared, did anyone have the same experience? Good or bad news?
(Maybe I'm just a bit too anxious to get it, can't wait!!) -
Did you also instal the new Sony drivers that are supposed to improve heat management (fan control) ?
Did you also upgrade to Windows 8.1 ? -
Shortly after "in production" disappeared, the tad changed to "shipping". It's been like the for a few days now and it's still in the "Shipping" tab as I'm writing this.ksalz likes this.

Hey guys. Still trying to finalize my custom Flip order. Need input on your thoughts are for RAM:
1) Stick with 8GB RAM.
Pros: Less Cost. Dual Channel running? (2x4GB)
Cons: Maybe not enough memory for my needs (in the future).
2) Or upgrade to 12GB RAM.
Pros: Enough memory.
Cons: Heard something about dual channel disadvantages, meaning that overall RAM is slower? So would I get a slight performance decrease? I imagine the sticks would be 1x4GB and 1x8GB (or possibly 3x4GB?) since they don't make 6GB sticks. Also, because I would have extra/increased RAM, wouldn't this cause a slight drain in battery performance? Been looking online and am finding that battery life has gone down for some folks after upgrading to more RAM. So I guess the 2 main cons I'm worried about are: slower performance + lower battery life. How accurate would this be?
Any thoughts? Anyone who has 8GB, could you tell me how much RAM usage your Flip uses on average? Like what percentage?
-
Anybody know what size the HD is? I'm trying to figure out what SSD I can get for the Flip 15 I ordered
-
7mm, not 9mm according to one person in the owners thread.

i just got my 15a 10min ago
btw the high res is awesome, nothing is too small -
That's great. I've just received my TNT consignment number for a delivery next Tuesday (also 15A, High Res).
I'm currently abroad and will need to make a separate booking for TNT to ship it to me. Would you be able to let me know the size of the package (in cm) as well as the weight (in Kg) so I can book it. -
I can't measure the weight, should be around 3-4kg

Thanks. Have fun.

I can't say how much ram W8 uses, as I'm still on W7 (24GB, never actually used more than 12 at one time, with Photoshop/Lightroom/AutoCAD usage). However, Newegg has low voltage laptop ram on sale today: Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C9S-8GRSL $54 for 8GB. I ordered my 15A with 4GB expecting to put in an extra 8, but ended up buying a pair since it was cheap. My guess is that if you buy it with 8GB you'll get a pair of 4GB DIMMs as there are 2 slots in a 15A motherboard.
It looks like Sony must have finally gotten their hires screens into the production line, as I got a confirmation email that mine was being built yesterday. I also picked up a 1TB SSD to put in it (7mm Samsung 840 EVO). Of course, several stores have the 960GB Crucial M500 on sale today for $440, but the power on the crucial is higher than the Samsung (1.1W vs 0.3W at idle, and 5W vs 3W max consumption), and with the battery I figured I needed every watt I could get back. Heck, depending on wake time and power cons., I may only put one stick of 8GB ram in and return the other stick.
