Yes jb14, Sony said that the release will be in the end of october.
@Aiga On the german sony site is written "Ein wandelbares Premium-Notebook für ein Computer-Erlebnis ohne Kompromisse." -> A convertible premium NB for a PC experience without any compromise.

So I think its a premium NB :D

Everything is premium, innovative, ground-breaking, and whatever, according to the marketing people, yeah.

Though Pro, Duo, Flip are "kind of" premium, though -- Pro, Duo (and most likely Flip) are more "premium" than any consumer-oriented offerings from HP or Toshiba (which, of course, doesn't say a lot). Fit, definitely not.

Ultimately, though -- unless you are Apple, not many people are going to buy your "premium" laptops at "premium" price. At least, some companies (including Flip, I would say) are trying to add bit more substance to the marketing speak of "premium".....

Very interesting post! Does the Atom CPU mean that the 11 inch model will be FANLESS? I surely hope so.

I also hope the the touchscreen will be active in ALL the modes, also the "regular" laptop mode (and not only the tablet mode).

Anyone who knows more now about the for me very interesting 11 inch model?

The 11 inch model will perhaps also be the best really ultraportable PC ALSO to be used in a "regular" laptop mode, with touchscreen. Perhaps being the one and only model with NO FAN NOISE! And we can also hope that the size and weight will be small, such a befits a real ultraportable: Measuring hopefully under 20 and 30 centimeters and being only about 1 centimeter thick, and also weighing in at about 1 kilo, or even less! Hoping!

    Woodgypsy,

Fit has also premium models or you can call them in the way you wish, for there are Fit E (grimmicky-plasticky for proletarians) and pure Fit (metal premium design for bourgeois). Now there is Fit flip for white collars and "creative class". Everybody must be happy.

Would Sony plan something of a premium for farmers and rustic folk?

I am waiting for the pre-order offers and the moment of pre-order.. !! So anybody any idea on when they will start the pre-ordering process?!

This is the machine that will replace my 'old' macbook pro 17'. Should be a lot lighter to carry around and possibly let me work in the train!!! 17' is way too big and bulky.. even a MacBook pro (2009)

Official specs for 13A seems rather good one. Why should it be "worse" than 13 Duo? I think Sony is still experementing with transformers design.

I had a look at the 14 and 15 inch at sony.nl. What stood out is the difference in battery time between the two models. It says on the site the 14 inch has up to 9 hours of battery and the 15 inch only 5.5 hours. That is quite a big difference.

Edit: Not one word on battery life for the 13A...

Edit: Looks like UK/Europe Customers might get short changed with the SATA SSD instead of the faster PCIe SSD same as how the VAIO pro was on launch

Approximately 12hours on the 13A, is what it says on the Sony.jp site.
However they quote 7.5hours for both the 14/15A.

    edit: pfft.

    Thank you guys :)

That's great, it's the only thing they could have got wrong at this point, even if it was very unlikely. Now it seems perfect for my needs, even if it turns out it lasts 8 hours (quite likely).

I see in the japanese site that it also says how much it weights: 1.31Kg.
That's actually closer to what I was expecting, and it's not that bad, just average.

EDIT: I noticed it says they use the JEITA battery test. I searched about it and it seems it's very light, and it gives about 30% more time than real usage. So the 13A will almost certainly last about 8-9 hours in light to mid usage.

For details on the JEITA test:

I'm very mildly disappointed in the battery life and the lack of a PCIe SSD option (I'm in the UK, going to plump for the 15 incher), but it's not a deal breaker I suppose.

I wonder - is there a battery life cost if you opt for the Geforce? I'm definitely getting the super hi-res panel, but wonder if the Intel 4000 is enough to drive it. Anyone know? I can't find any TDP specs for the Geforce part.

Well clearly it's down to the pen. The Yoga might be a more compelling package otherwise. Personally, if I could only afford one machine at a time and I do what I do now on the move (i.e. a lot of 'Office' stuff) I'd definitely pick the Flip for the digitiser, even though in my experience with the Duo 13 the N-Trig pen isn't necessarily the fastest tracking pen out there. If I was more casual-use orientated I might look more favourably on (especially the orange - I couldn't get it when I got my '12 machine :(, but if I decide to update it, it will definitely be the orange this time) Yoga.

What kind of tracking issues did you have on the duo? I had it for a week before returning due to WiFi issues. I noticed the lag while hovering, by never while writing. I only used it for onenote though.

I'm looking into the Yoga and Flip as well. The extra real estate on the flip helps when inking lecture lectures and school. I prefer not having to hide the ribbon bar when taking notes, but my current 500T doesn't have much room.

The I5 flip sounds like it will last longer than the I5 yoga. I saw the I5 yoga rated around 6.5 or 7. Starting at $950 for standard HD and no wacom. I'm assuming the extra resolution and wacom will come only with I5 or I7.

Its coming down to battery life and price for me. Wish there was more pricing info for the US. I would imagine there going to come out with the price after a good amount of manufacturing to more accurately calculate cost. Can't blame them...

Pulled the trigger on the UK silver i5 256GB 8GB 13inch version. Sony site kept crashing for me so keep on it if you are trying. Was very interested in the Yoga pro 2 as well, but personally prefer the keys tucked away beneath the screen. Sony gives you a 4 year warranty for free for a limited time which was a nice bonus as well. Due for delivery 24th - 29th Oct so will post thoughts on how it is around then. I wanted something before the end of the month as away on a trip so if you can wait might be interesting to compare the Yoga 2 when it comes out.

Ordered mine as well.. WITH 25% OFF :D (and the free 4 year warranty) There's a code for swiss students which gives you 25% off, but it says only for cameras, audio and TV. But i thought i give it a try and it worked haha. Maybe they didn't configure the online shop properly for the multi flip yet. Well i completed the transaction and got the confirmation, let's see if it works. Estimated delivery: 22-23.10.
So i got my 13A, i7-4500U, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, Win 8 Pro for unbelievable 1000 Euro (1250 CHF)

At the german edu stores it says that the Ethernet Wi-Fi® und VGA-Dongle is free, but if I click on it it adds about 55€. Same for you guys? Sony fault?
And on this page Google Translate ... can someone explain me the numbers?

    R classification 0.038 (AA) / 0.15 / 394%: If you select the i7-4500U Core
    R classification 0.044 (AA) / 0.15 / 340%: If you select i5-4200U Core
    R classification 0.068 (AA) / 0.15 / 220%: If you select i3-4005U Core

Does it mean that the 4500U lasts longer than the 4200U?

Theoretically yes, but you would have to open up your new laptop and void your warranty. Also it is not confirmed yet if it SATA or PCIe SSDs that are being used. If you were still keen I personally would wait until iFixit or some site did a teardown so you could see if your ssd would slot in ok or not.

Damn, not only the code doesn't work in the Italian store, but while the starting prices for the 14A and the 15A are the same as in the German store (800 and 880 euro), the one for the 13A is 200 euro higher (1245 instead of 1045).

I hope they correct it soon, altough errors of this type are typical in the Sony online site, in the days after a new product is added.

and anyone know exactly what the battery life and weight of of 15 in model will be?
If it will be around 7 hours and a max of 3-3.5 pounds I will probably buy that one.

15 inch model will weigh 4.6 pounds. According to their Japanese site, they rate battery life of all fit models at 7.5 hours, which is about 50%-60% more than how they rate old Fit. Since I believe that old Fits have real-world battery life of about 4 hours, I imagine Fit A will have six to seven hours of real-world battery life -- but please take it with grain of salts.

Looking forward to the US pricing reveal...I'm deciding between the Surface Pro 2, 13" Vaio Flip, Dell Venue 11 pro and Fujitsu Q704. I like something about all of them so I imagine that price will be a huge deciding factor for me. I would have already jumped on the Surface Pro 2 but the 10.6 screen size is just a little smaller than what I want. The Q704 has a great 12.5" size but I suspect that it will be priced too far above the others for me to give it serious consideration. The Dell Venue 11 I suspect will have good relative pricing but I think that I would like the 13" size of the Flip better, due to it giving more room for desktop multi-window use, although I really prefer the detachable tablet format vs the non-flat tablet mode of the Flip. With that said if the Flip price is competitive then I'll probably give it first shot. I've been waiting to replace my stolen Samsung Ativ 700 smart pc pro for the past two months so I'm really anxious to get a replacement now.

One more discovery - It looks that 13 and 14 will have only one memory slot, and 15 will have two - much better for upgrade.
But I still dont know if there is option for mSATA ssd drive
