I adjusted high performance profile for battery mode to the same option values as for AC mode.
But gaming and HD-video fps still is much less when power cable is disconnected. How to reach maximum performance on battery?

If anyone gets the chance to try out Medieval II: Total War or Empire: Total War on this card/their system let us know how it went performance wise. I'm thinking of buying either of these two games.

    Thanks :)

I made a mistake. The reason that the score jumps is the resolution change. Before I upgraded the driver, 3DMark run at 1280x768. After the benchmark, 3DMark run at 1024x768 so of course the score would be higher. Unfortunately, I only have the demo version so I can't change the resolution manually.

    hi,
if i connect an lcd to the SR via HDMI (with and HDMI-DVI adapter) will I loose sound (since hdmi carries sounds) or will I still be able to output sounds to speakrs from the SR's headphone jack?

The new ATi CCC and driver have been released this Wednesday!
It's got 44.5 MBs. Downloading now, will see how it works when installed.
Hope the driver won't struggle like the 9.2's one. Be back to you soon. :)

Edit1: Ah dammit... Catalyst installed (although the CCC's graphic software screen shows it's still 9.01), but the driver... It won't install at any cost... Maybe we will have to wait for a new Mobility Modder version to come out if we want to have the newest drivers :(

Edit2: Awesome! :D After a few minutes of digging in google, I have found a file you have to put in ATi driver installation folder, it's like this:
    Unfortunately, I haven't found a fix file for 9.3 CCC @ Driver, I'll keep digging :)...
    For Catalyst 9.2
After modifying the driver, put THIS file, unzip it and put it right here : ATI\SUPPORT\9-2_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_75976\
    Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH_INF.

    Here's the proof :) [IMG]

Yeah, I know about the 9.2 problem. I wrote about it on the previous page and I have the same problem with 9.3. The installation gives me an error when installing the driver and Catalyst still displays as 9.1.

i just installed the 9.3 version from amd ati, but i dont see the version number avaiable on my graphics software information center. how do i know if it worked other than the fact that they said it worked and made me restart my laptop?

edit: ok i installed 9.2 and it worked just like mentioned above. should i install 9.3 now even tho the catalyst driver wont show up?

I just did a clean install of Vista x64 on my 140D and am having problems with my 3470 drivers. I initailly installed modded Catalyst 9.2 suite and found that there is a lot of horizonatal lines during motion (tearing?) when playing video on my secondary display. I then reverted back to catalyst 8.11 with no improvement.

I had no problems at all before the clean install. Has anyone else experienced this?

Mine says HD3450 too ever since I started using the modded drivers. However, there is a very simple way to check what videocard your laptop has.

Go to: Catalyst Control Center => Information Center => Graphics Hardware

Scroll down and at the end it should tell you the Core Clock and Memory Clock in MHz.

The HD3450 has 500 and 700 respectively, while the HD3470 has 680 and 800. That way, even though it says that I have the HD3450, based on the clock speeds, I know it's actually the HD3470.

I thought it was time to update this thread.

First of all, get the latest Mobility Modder here:
    http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php
(this is the newest version - V1.2.0.0 - released THIS MONTH, fixing any problems with the post-9.1 Catalyst)

Secondly, get the latest ATI driver + Catalyst from here:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
(remember to look under Radeon, NOT Mobility Radeon unless you're using Windows 7)

Actually, it would be nice if someone who installed 7 on their FW or SR could update us if the latest normal Mobility Radeon drivers from ATI's site work, so we don't have to mod desktop drivers.

And here's proof that the latest modded driver + Catalyst works just fine on an FW with a Mobility HD3470 card. The card is still reported as a HD3450 but that doesn't affect the performance in any way.

Has anyone tried gaming that has specs that exceed the dedicated video memory on the SR? I was thinking of buying Street Fighter 4 but the minimum spec on the graphics card is 256mb while mines has only 128mb. I have 4gb of system ram so I was wondering if this game would still be playable if it had to use an extra 128mb from the system ram in order to run?

Play Unreal 1 at 1600x900, in-game and ATI Catalyst settings all maxed out including 4x AA, 12x samples and still able to maintain 60 fps 99% of the time. I know Unreal 1 is an old game but consider this: I have another laptop with GeForce Go 7400. With the same setting at 1280x800, I could only get 30fps. So, I would say Radeon HD 3470 is a huge improvement over GeForce Go 7400. Both cards belong to the same class but the former is much faster.

from what canyourunit.com say, i can, but who knows. For 5 dollars i still say its a good deal, even if you end up not being about to run it. You can get the 5 bucks back by cutting on a few bag of chips lol.

So I decided to go ahead and buy it (from steam though) and I have to say I am pretty disappointed in the performance on my computer. Above water it seems to run pretty well on 1024x768 at low/medium settings. However, UNDER water it runs at only 9-10 fps which is horrendous. I should have gotten it for 360 instead.

If you're running Vista, yes, you have to use the latest mobility modder. If you're running 7, not necessary since you can download actual mobile drivers from the site.

I picked up playing Neo Steam (The version from Atlus Online). The base stats for the game detected I could play stuff on Medium Settings (1024x768 windowed) for the three categories with shadows. It runs pretty well with that. I turned it down, but I'll probably turn it back up again, as turning it down did nothing. The only limiting factor playing this game is the uhm.... HDD in my laptop. But no fear! I'm upgrading to a 7200 rpm one.

I'm still running on the drivers that this laptop came with (well, except the Wireless card, those were awful.)

Just ran the Street Fighter IV benchmark test and got an average of 60fps which the lowest resolution, filters on default, AA and vsync off, with the rest of the settngs on low except character model (mid) and background (high). Very good result considering I have the 128MB card.

I find that you have to turn settings down real low. I either have to pick on models or background--background alone sucks up like 5-10 fps for me, and choosing between low or high model settings is 5-10 fps. The game is only playable when you're getting 55-60fps imo. I go with:

    960x600 (16:10 ratio)
    Models: Low
    Background: Low or High
    Everything else high.

That gets pretty good. If I go 1280x800 then I have to have both models and BG on low definitely. The other settings don't seem to do much--maybe 1-3 fps difference in my experience. I have played the game with models High and BG high but that's only playable in single player--the combo of lag and loss of FPS makes it extremely hard to play.

Btw, this was tested on my T400 with the AC plugged in (there's a noticeable difference in performance between AC plugged and running on battery).

i'm running mobility mod 9.7 drivers.

and SFIV runs at 60 fps for me @ 1280x800. Turned off all shadows, background high (low = no bg at all, pretty stupid), and everything else on low except for the characters on medium.

im noy sure if it has been mentioned before but i just found out and it makes me a lot happier. so im gonna share it.

im sure some of us with ATI cards have the problem where the screen is black when resuming from hibernate or standby, and its annoying. well, here is the fix guys. i personally have tried resuming a few times after this and it hasnt failed yet.

Just wanted to post a quick update on ATI's Catalyst 9.8. I personally don't recommend updating to this version (on the FW at least) because it messes up Sony's HDMI switcher (Fn + F7).

Some people may not have a problem with this because you can still use Vista's or ATI's controls to extend or switch to an external monitor but for me, it was a problem because Sony's switcher was the quickest when I wanted to watch a movie.

I reverted back to 9.6 and everything is fine and dandy. Considering I never had any real issues with 9.6, I think I'll stick with this one. I never installed 9.7 since I was out of the country for 2 months without my laptop and totally skipped that update.

If anyone has any reason to believe that 9.8 will be more beneficial to the laptop, I'd like to hear what it offers extra just so I know if it's worth updating.
