Can't get rid of System.Application Popup/"Driver RISD returned invalid ID for a child device (0001)." error.
Just made a clean instal (Win 7 Ultimate), everything works, no crashes, etc. but I've noticed this error appeared in Even Viewer for each boot.
Reinstalled all Ricoh reader drivers with no luck.
Does anyone else getting this error? Thanks!

EDIT: Looks like this error is related to Ricoh SD Bus driver. If I disable SD bus, the error goes away. Anyone else has this error in even viewer?

If you followed by this installation steps+reboot, if needed+all W7 updates were installed you will have no problems.
Try to delete SD+MS bus from devises, reboot, install SD+MS bus, reboot

I installed the drivers and software in an order that made sense to me (which is way different from the often stated 'recommended' installation order) and everything works fine - there is no need to strictly comply with this list. So don't hesitate the change the installation order if you don't feel comfortable - especially if you experience problems.

    @AGabi,

I've followed the order from the first page. I was rebooting after each driver and monitoring event viewer after each reboot. This helped me to find what device was causing this error. I've tried to uninstall/reinstall SD Bus but this didn't help. Right now I just disabled it for now. (When I enable it I can see this error right away)
I will try reinstalling it one more time but I'm a bit surprised that only me is getting this. ;(
    Thanks for suggestions!

    UPDATE:

I've played a bit with Ricoh driver and was able to get rid of this error by using Windows Driver find.
I've uninstalled both Ricoh Bus drivers (I had two listed in device manager, one for SD and one for Memory stick)
Windows prompted me to download new driver from Sony but it wasn't the same driver that was listed on US driver site for VPCZ119X

    The new driver is: RIDMSC-00203446-764.EXE
The old files were: RIDFMC-00210944-0042.EXE (Ricoh SD Bus) and RIDMSC-00210941-0042.EXE (Memory Stick)

After installing new driver that Windows suggested, I no longer seeing "Application Popup" error. Tested SD card and Memory Stick, - both are working!

The only thing I've noticed now is that device manager is only listing one Ricoh Host Controller. (I used to have two SD and Memory Stick before)

UPDATE: Well, looks like Windows didn't quite liked the new driver that I have installed and threw an error regarding driver signature, so I'm back to square one... :(

Can anyone please check event viewer (Win 7 Ultimate) and see if there is "Application Popup: Driver RISD returned invalid ID for a child device (0001)" error?

I've already did 2 clean installs (from scratch) and still getting it. I realize that this is not a big deal and it will definitely won't bring any problems to the stability of the system but it would be nice not to have error level events in a system ;)

I have one URGENT question (sorry if it sounded stupid).. I have created recovery disks (DVDs) and wanted to perform a clean install and delete the recovery partition. When I boot up with the first recovery DVD, it opens up Sony Care Rescue. I was hoping it would directly lead me to the windows 7 Pro setup, but it does not!

Please help me perform a clean install from the recovery disks, without needing to install the bloatwares and where I can delete the recovery partition.

To get rid of the bloatware perform a Complete System Restore rather than a restore of drive C: When it asks you whether to keep the factory default VAIO software on your C: drive, answer No. Only the Windows operating system, drivers, and necessary software will be installed.

Thanks for the quick reply! Really appreciate it. With the same process (i.e., Complete System Restore), do I have the option of deleting the recovery partition and recreate 2-3 partitions?

I have not tried deleting the recovery partition but it seems that there is such an option because it asks you whether you wish to keep the factory default C: drive size. I am not sure what you mean by recreating 2-3 partitions.

That is the method that I used with my notebook. Perhaps it is better to highlight what it does NOT install:

    Microsoft Works
    Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components
    Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007
    Microsoft Office Small Business 2007
Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies
Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office System
Microsoft Office Small Business Connectivity Components
    Microsoft Office Suite Activation Assistant
    Evernote
    Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer
    Google Chrome
    QuickBooks Financial Center
    Webcam Companion
    Sony Media Gallery

There could be more. But that is what called my attention.

It does not intall an antivirus but it installs Adobe Reader and Flash Player, VAIO Care and other some other VAIO Software (not all).

I tried a clean install with Windows 7 Ultimate and faced an issue with the Ricoh Memory Stick and SD disk devices showing twice in "Devices and Printers" that was not able to correct.

Just enter W7 Ultimate serial in Windows Anytime Upgrade and
you will have W7 Ultimate on a PC. I have W7Pro clean installed and I don't see Ricoh Memory Stick and SD disk devices in "Devices and Printers" at all. Is it normally?

Good! Not having Ricoh Memory Stick and SD disk devices in "Devices and Printers" at all is the way that it should be.

I have little issue after clean install. WEI shows only 7.3 subscore for data disk transfer rate. Before I have 7.6 subscore.
It is detail WIE report for data disk transfer rate.

Hi. Is it working only with recovery DVD disks? I tried clean install how you described with recovery partition. But being recovering I had not any question about keep the factory default VAIO software on your C: drive  Can you describe about installing with more details? Thanks.

After a clean install of Windows 7, I've an issue trying to use a Lexus Express Card Compact Flash Reader. I can't tell whether this is due to the clean install or not since I bought my Compact Flash reader after reinstalling the operating system, but I guess this might be related.

When I insert it in the Express Card slot, nothing happens (and the device's led does not turn on).

I've tried installing the drivers of the device, which you can find here, but it returns an "Installation failed!" because "The device was not found". It happens either when the device is plugged in or not.

I have no device with a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. Here is a screenshot of the devices which might correspond to my Express Card slot, it could be the 3B44, 3B46, 3B42, 3B30 and/or the 0045, don't know.

The VAIO Recovery Center can be launched either by pressing the Assist key while in Windows or the F10 Key as the notebook begins to boot. Once there choose "Restore Comeplete System" on the left-hand side menu and follow the prompts until the aforesaid question appears.

I had not the aforesaid question being installing process. I tried another method. After this method I have only OS+drivers without any other SW.
Being Recovery process, after OS+drivers installed just press CTRL+ALT+DEL, Task Manager starts, cancel VAIO Recovery process, notebook reboot 2 times, Windows OS+Drivers are installed.

Can you do Complete System Restore without "keeping default VAIO software" using self made Recovery DVD on completely clean SSD drive?

I did clean install of my new z12
    Boot windows, create recovery dvds
    install windows 7
boot into windows, put recovery dvd into drive
recovery centre will suggest choice of full recovery or installation of drivers and applications - choose installation of drivers option.
install all needed drivers , reboot
install applications you need from recovery dvd , reboot
so far works perfectly, all functions are enabled

I've noticed that my "Fn" overlay controls resulting in videos switching from full screen mode.
For example, when i watch videos in full screen mode (Windows Media or YouTube) and try to change the volume or brightness it throws video from full screen mode.

Does anyone know where can I adjust this setting?

I have clean install Win 7 ultimate 64.

    thx!

The turbo boost drivers are called 'IPS Driver'.
The VAIO smart network utility is called 'VAIO Smart Network' (if you got an european model, otherwise you will have 'SmartWii').

You need to extract setup for the application from your recovery image to restore the functionality. It is not available to download.

This thread should give you info on how to extract it:

There is an application called VAIO Windows Organizer which is not available for download. Installing it will restore the functionality of the S1 button. You have to get it from the recovery disc or partition.

You of course don't want to have recovery disc installed, so you will have to extract it from it.

For those of you who performed a clean install on the z12.. How many processes does it end up running at start up, and have any of you experienced a change in Wei score?

I was running mine with 34 processes right after start up, but I had to tweak to a great extent the services configuration. That was with the bloated pre-installed Win7, I'm trying a clean install right now and BTW I'm stuck after applying the wim to c:, I get a BSOD when it tries to boot up, has anybody successfully accomplished the process with a Windows 7 on a z11/12 with ssd raid ?

Well, the BSOD error was "BSOD STOP 0x0000012A: MUI_NO_VALID_SYSTEM_LANGUAGE", which is weird, it seems the sony.wim does not have any UI language pack installed, instead the MUI it's another .wim which i guess it's instaled afterwards by the recovery process.

In case somebody else runs into this problem, this is what I did:

1- Download the mui for the locale you want to install, I downloaded the en-US MUI (my copy of Win7 came in Spanish but I'm more used to English). Even if your copy of Windows have the locale you want installed, download it anyway as it comes in the form of an .msi on another .wim of the recovery partition, and I don't know if you can execute the DISM command with a .msi.

download mui windows 7 - Google Search

2- You will need to boot the computer on a Win7 recovery/repair mode, just boot a Win7 DVD or prepared DVD, select the repair option, and open the command line. I think you can also use a Vista recovery console. On the console you will need to execute a couple of commands:

To install the locale on the windows partition after applying the sony.wim. If you created a c: partition, and you have save the MUI on a pendrive/usb HD mounted on e: , this command will do:

    DISM /Image:c:\ /Add-Package /PackagePath:e:\en-US.cab

You might get a warning message (which ends in an error seconds later) about not having enough scratch space, as the recovery console is loaded into a ramdisk; if so, you need to add another parameter to the DISM command that will tell it one directory to use as scratch space, make sure you use a big pendrive or a usb HD or create a Temporary directory on the windows partition (1Gb should do). I got that message, and created a "Temp" directory on the USB HD I had copied the MUI in, so the command I finally ran was:

    DISM /Image:c:\ /Add-Package /PackagePath:e:\en-US.cab /ScratchDir:e:\Temp

If everything goes fine, it will start unpacking and installing the MUI onto the image of the windows installation recovered by the sony.wim, it will take some minutes. After the process is finished, you need to issue another command that will configure to bootmanager to boot the windows installation using the just unpacked locale:

    bcdboot c:\Windows /l en-US

And you are good to go, now you can boot the recovered sony.wim Win7 installation. It will reboot like 4 or 5 times to finish configuring stuff. After that it lets you choose an user, set the time etc etc. One weird thing, it had all the driver installed except for the wireless network card (mine is an Intel centrino 6200 advanced), so you need to download the driver on another PC and install it, or search for it on the list of wim's the mod2wim process generates.

Hope it helps, I've been figuring out how to f****ing install the clean recovery image for the whole day and this was the last (at least) problem I encountered.

    hello,

for those who have been trying to use the image sony.wim and then trying to add a language pack to avoid this blue screen of death.

You can convert a language pack .exe sfx cab to a simple .cab file with exe2cab 3.2 by Yuri Niyazov (google it, it's easy to find)

and then, with the resulted .cab file, follow this guide from the DISM step with the ScratchDir option to the end

    My setup : vaio z 13 (VPCZ13C5E) with hdd/no optical drive
+ external usb burner to boot the vaio recovery dsic
+ external usb hdd to apply sony.wim and the language pack
