hi every one, sine I just received my vpc-z1390 (come with windows home premium) I upgraded to Ultimate 64 N ( without WMC and IE), I tried to follow the upgrade steps for clean install but will not work with the new z1390 I have got a lot of issues when installing Vaio z1390 drivers.
some battery problem (wrong battery ....) it is solved, i took out the battery finish all installations then made mu windows update then plugged the battery again, the problem was solved automatically
some Graphic card problem ( the Driver in Sony Support Website will not work properly you have to get the drivers from the Z1290 !! it solved the problem for me )
But I still have 3 problem:
the first is the Microsoft.net framework seems that he cannot find something to work properly some JIT in the detail some power manager , some mscorlib ... in the assembly (I don't even knew what is it !!!)
    2. the Ethernet Controller
    3. (peripherique systheme de base) sorry it is in French I really don't knew how to translate this one .

i'm curious to know how much free space on your SSDs you got back from this. Currently my C: drive reads 80.6/107gb. I feel like this might be alot of used space for JUST windows 7 (64bit)

I followed these steps but in Device Manager > Computer, my Z13 is recognized as ACPI x64-based PC.

What might have gone wrong? Because of this I can not use UNDOCK from ShutDown menu

    Hi,

Remember to disable or reduce the size of pagefile, it defaults to 4GB by default. If you have more than enough RAM.
Also disable or reduce the size of System Restore. If you do your own backups
Should be able to get back a considerable amount of space?

After reading nearly the entire thread, I realized that most VPCZ1 owners are not familiar with SSDs.

First of all, never format a drive by writing Zeroes.
Secondly, merely formatting a drive does not give you factory fresh performance, in fact, constantly reinstalling Windows will cause drive degradation. Constantly running the WEI tests will cause degradation as well.

*MOST IMPORTANT POINT OF MY POST*
Factory fresh performance is obtained by running the secure erase command on your SSDs!
So when reinstalling Windows never forget to break up the RAID, secure erase each drive, rebuild and then proceed.

This does not circumvent the fixed life cycle of each cell so remember that everything you do something major to your drive think twice before doing it.

Most of your points are true, though no one should worry about SSD wear at all. If you take the MLC life cycles into account, wear leveling makes you able to write/erase on your drive for years on max speed.

In addition to that, I don't see any advantage in secure erasing the Z's SSDs since even if you encouter write speed degradation, just let the computer idle for a couple of hours and the SSDs take care about the rest. I write/delete a good 100GB a day on my Z (for 3/4 year now), and I never felt speed degradation at all.

Thank you, I am just used to Sandforce drives which slow down on me and idling at logged out screen does not really show an significant improvement.

I shall now state clearly that Secure Erase is only for those of you who really really want to ensure your drive is
at factory fresh performance because what pyr0 has mentioned should keep the drive in good shape already.

Any idea why for the VPCZ13 series , there is no turbo boost driver ?

the VPCZ11 support pages still have the Turbo boost drivers.

hi guys, I just did a fresh install of win7 pro on my vpcz115gg. everything seems to work cept for the fn keys and the switchable graphics key. I know i have to install vaio event service in order for them to work but I can't find them! what else do I have to install in order for them to work again? I installed vaio care and vaio update and all the drivers for the hardware.

I didn't realize my Z1 was capable of running WIDI! Do I need to do anything more than installing the first and third programs in your links, above (I already have the Intel 62XX driver installed and running), and then purchase the Netgear receiver device and attach to the TV? Will WIDI work seamlessly with these two pieces of software installed and the Netgear receiver on the TV, or is there more to it?

    Nope. That's it.

If your card is compatible, install the Intel drivers so you get the complete drivers with My WiFi controller.

Cool beans - it's like getting a new accessory I never knew I already had! Does it matter which Push-to TV device I get? Seems the first versions, which do not do 1080p (which my 1st gen core-i5 won't do anyway) are on sale for $50 or so vs. closer to $100 for the WIDI-2 compatible ones. Any reason not to get the older version?

I've been wanting to clean install my VPCZ1 its almost 2 years old now, but reading through this thread I see some people have an issue with the dual pane button. Has anyone recently done this successfully?
