Vaio Z12 700$ Price Drop?!?

Can't speak for Canada, but I think Enny02 was speculating about US models based on what's showing up in Canada. It's already available in US with 1600x900 display at other retailers.

Doesn't look like it. Maybe only prebuilts since the US prebuilts have been showing up with 1600 x 900. Or, they're saving the 1600 x 900 screens for the remainder of the Z12 CTOs.

I think someone mentioned that there would be warranty issue but I could have sworn that when I bought my wife's SZ680 in Seattle and brought it back to Canada, the warranty was for both US and Canada.

I did mention in a post a few up that I bought an SZ from Seattle and brought it back to Canada.

 

I've been drooling over a Z series for over a year. After searching everywhere for a decent price (i.e., below $2000 in Canada) I gave up and bought a MBP 13" a couple months ago.

Saw this deal, ordered one, and am selling my MBP tomorrow!

For anyone sitting on the fence, this is a scorching hot deal for a Z12.

Thanks man. Loved the SZ680 except for the Nvidia GPU waiting to implode. The Z12 looks solid.

 

I almost want to buy another Z12 just cuz it's $1200 for a $2000 laptop. :/

 

Why does it cost so much to add a blu-ray option for the Z-series when it only costs $70 for the EA I have 2 HDTVs at home but we don't have anything that plays Blu-ray.

 

Supposedly, it's because the blu-ray burner has to be very slim and light for Z series, hence the high price.

 

I guess I can still use the Z to stream HD content to the TV. But with 128gb storage I think I'm pretty limited Any solutions?

 

Either stream it from a server / desktop shared storage / NAS or just get an external hard drive. Even running USB 2.0 would be enough.

 

Streaming to HDTV is somewhat new and advanced for me. I'll try to figure it out once I receive the computer. It will be the most powerful machine in the house. The other 2 desktops that I have are more than 4 years old...

I ordered my z12 Saturday morning...the status is still processing and the estimated ship date is next Tuesday... Anyone else in the same position?

 

Well, being a US citizen myself, I tried and tried in a live chat to match the discounts currently available for the Z12s on the Canadian site... and yet, to no avail. The best they could do was 5% off, which is unfortunate, as it was still $800+ higher than the CA equivalent of my configuration.

Back to the drawing board I suppose.

If you are willing to put the drive in by yourself, you can save hundreds of bucks. You can buy the uj-242 drive for about 230$ including shipping. I will write up a guide how to do so in a week or two.

 

Are the ssd in sony canada only comes with dual ssd? Could i get the quad ssd?

 

Aren't there forwarding companies that charge a small amount to receive something and then resend it to you? I know I heard there were US companies that will received products and then either hold it for you or re-ship it into Canada.

Shouldn't it back something like a bunch of screws on the bottom, remove keyboard, 3 screws to remove the optical drive and then put it back together in reverse?

 

Don't buy an optical drive and put it into the vpc-z if you expect to have a functioning eject button.

Someone here did that (VPC-Z) and the eject button on the keyboard doesn't work. We all suspected it was some special sony firmware that made that key happen...remember unlike the VGN-Z the eject key works even before O/S is loaded. So....do you have a working eject key?

Have some patience. I ordered Friday afternoon and on Tuesday morning I got the "we are building" e-mail.

 

Oh man, those prices for those config make me want to snag a clearance Z12 from Sony Canada. Unfortunately, I'm located in the US & ordering from SonyStyle Canada is a no go for me.

 

I'd be willing to tolerate their health care system for those prices! I'm JUST KIDDING (before i cause an international incident) but seriously those prices are just so unbelivably low... for what i paid for my Z, i could get 512 GB SSD free...

 

Does the GeForce GT 330 / Intel onboard GPU allow for bitstreaming? I'm sure the Nvidia alone wouldn't but will the onboard Intel do bitstreaming?

The people I spoke with in SonyStyle sales did not know anything about an actual date for the US Z13 launch, but they all seemed to think that a similar promotion should probably happen in the US as well. The only information they could provide is that the website is always updated on Sundays.

The geforce does but not the intel, because the intel has no access to the hdmi port due to sony's implementation.
