Hello all,
i've seen sony published almost all vaio z 64bit driver.
Does anyone of you know if sony's utility works even in a 64bit OS?
Does the clean install procedure (another thread) work for vista64?? -
hi . plz driver 64bit xp vgn-sz740
-
1. installed using clean vista x64 MSDN disc w/o bloatware
2. installed Firmware Extension Parser Device & Sony Programmable I/O Control Device
3. installed programs / drivers as per given in this thread
--> initially = about 55 processes.
it ran exactly the same as vista 32 now, just that these following features doesn't seem to work
For the Vaio Power Management,
1. dvd drive doesn't have option to shutdown to sleep to save battery
2. Internal Firewire / coxenant modem doesn't have option to off to save battery
comments on vista x64
it ran significantly faster in loading application (for me) ...
eg. opening IE takes approximately 0.5 sec
eg. opening office 2007 takes approximately 3 - 4 sec
Note: Not all virus scanner / firewall can run in vista x64
eg. zonealarm... **** i still have 3 years subscriptions with them -_-
After using xp Pro / vista 32 / vista x64...
i would have to say vista x64 seems to be better -
I still can't get the options like Quiet Mode also the options to turn off the DVD, Ilink.
Any ideas? -
I have a Vaio Z-series that I want to convert to 64-bit Vista Ultimate.
I have compiled most of the materials that seem to be needed for a clean 64-bit Vista installation, but there are 2 things that escape me:
Where do I get Sony Programmable I/O Control Device driver? I have the Firmware Extension Parser.
Second question refers to Vaio Utilities. I have the file for combined utilities for Vaio model VGN-FW170J/W. They have one difference with the Z model : the "Vaio Power Management" in Z models is utility is substituted with "Vaio Launcher" in FW170J models. How much of a difference does that make? Where can I get 64-bit Z-series utilities?
Thank you,
goranov
PS..Just found the I/O control device driver -
As predicted things are not running as they should be
"Stamina" settings are fine. light of the switch is is on, etc.
"Speed" setting is not working well. I see both video cards when in "speed" setting. When I try to instal the NVIDIA drivers I get errors or the screen just blacks out. When I restart, I get the Intel card working with the NVIDIA drivers in "speed" mode, but the nvidia card still has the yellow triangle (error code 43). The light is also off on the switch when in speed mode.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
All other devices in "devmgmt.msc" seem OK (no other visible devices with yellow triangles or question-marks) . How do I check if parser and I/O control device are funcioning properly?
I tried to follow the "32-bit clean install" directions. The onlything I did differently was to install the Intel chipset drivers (1-86-64 Intel Chipset 9.0.0.1008) before the Intel video card drivers.
Any help is appreciated. I'd hate having to start from scratch and still not know where I screwed up.
Thanks,
goranov -
I cannot find the Sprint WWAN Smartwi for 64bit vista. The FW doesn't work.
Any ideas? Thank-you. -
i did a reinstall of vista 64 bit to see how the dual graphics detect.
apparently need these 2 items
Firmware Extension Parser Device & Sony Programmable I/O Control Device
Start -> Control Panel -> Classic View -> System -> Device Manager -> there should be 2 exclaimation marks! ... right click and install device with the programs and that should be all..
would recommend you to
install intel chipset, intel matrix storage manager follow by SFEP / SonyPI.
After that go to stamina mode, install Intel x4500, reboot
then go to speed mode, install nvidia 9300m GS
You will not encounter any errors doing it this way
The 2 programs can be found in the zip file that has been uploaded in this thread
Firmware Extension Parser Device -> #8 SFEP
Sony Programmable I/O Control Device -> #13 SonyPI
Or i can upload for you once i'm done reinstalling -
Hi Firestone,
I think that the Firmware Parser and I/O control Device are installed properly. I base this statement on the fact that no other devices (besides the NVIDIA card) have the yellow triangles or questionmarks.
I used the zip files from the japan vaio site for both SEFP (EP0000144423 : SFEP(Sony) and I/O contol device(EP0000144424 : SPIC(Sony)).
I used the Intel GraphicsAccelerator auto-installer (downloaded from the intel website) for the intel video card in "stamina" mode. Seems to work fine. I get the expected video experience and the NVIDIA card disappears.
Then I switch to speed mode and restart. Both cards are then visible in the "device manager" console. I select the NVIDIA card (the second listed with generic name), and I select to update drivers looking in the unzipped folder for the nvidia driver. This is where it gets messy.
The NVIDIA driver does not install properly. Only the Intel card gets the driver. The NVIDIA card becomes named properly but still has the yellow triangle and the massage that it cannot start properly.
I am now removing all graphics drivers and will start over.
thanks,
goranov -
When drivers screw up, i've always deleted the partitions and restarted the install again. thats just me.
I would un-install and video drivers. Shutdown the system, switch to stamina, startup, install intel drivers. When it asks to restart, don't and then shutdown. Switch to Speed and startup the system. Install Nvideo drivers.
It looks like you may have switched to speed in windows. i rebooted and when at the bios screen, then put it on speed. -
I did everything in stamina mode until the installation of the Intel Graphic accelerator. Then I shut down the computer. Switched to Speed mode; started the computer and tried to install the NVIDIA driver.
I/O Controller and Firmware parser are installed!
****!!!!
I wonder if I am using the wrong drivers.
I am using the drivers listed on this thread but I did not get them from the rar files posted but from Intel or the Sony Vaio support site.

I am sorry for belaboring the subject but few specific questions:
To install the Intel x4500 Video card driver: do you guys use the "auto install" Intel IntelGraph Acc Vista 15.11.2.64.1554, or do you use the un-zipped version of these IntelGraph Acc Vista 15.11.2.64.1554 and "update driver" from the "device manager console"
I used the auto-installer. Could that be the problem?
How many of you have installed the NVIDIA 64-bit driver in Vista ULTIMATE on Vaio VGN-Z591U?
Thanks,
goranov -
I use Vista ultimate, VGN-Z16GN
i used the auto-installer as well
hmm.. Both the SEFP / SPIC are correct version...
when you try to install the nvidia gfx, which driver did you use?
Is it this one?
EP0000159633.zip
ftp://vug.vaio.sony.co.jp/pub/oth/64/EP0000159633.zip
i did not install it via the device manager menu.
what i did was i double click on the setup.exe to run for both the x4500 and the 9300m GS.
it seems to differ slightly from yours.
Regarding the error 43, not sure as well. Did not encounter it -
@gornov, i don't see what you're doing wrong.
I don't think you need all the drivers installed in order to install the video drivers. Can someone correct me on this!
I have a UK Sony Z and installed the drivers from the rar file in this thread.
2a-64 IntelGraph Acc Vista 15.11.2.1554
2b-64 NVIDIA Graphics 7.15.11.7449
I changed the order as i could not install the Intel drivers after installing the nvidia, said hardware is not supported or something like that.
I wasn't sure when to change the switch but thought it's best to do it when windows has not loaded anything so either when shutdown or when at the bios screen. Try the drivers from the rar file. -
thanks for all the help in this topic. I have converted my Z555DN to 64bit business. However, I am having some problem installing the HDD protection driver. Any help ??
thanks. -
Thanks to all who helped!
Firestone gets a special mention since he solved the problem!
I was using the "update driver" function and not the setup.exe to install the NVIDIA driver.
It it working now!!!!
Great!
goranov -
haha.. sure no problem.
glad to be of assistance -
Where do you guys get the 64-bit versions of the Sony utilities?
I tried the utilities from the VGN-FW170J/W model but a message appears that these were not meant for my Z-model and I quit the installation.
Fredguy nicely posted all of these, but last time I spent almost 4 hours downloading the rar files only to have 2 of them not extract properly. Before I try this again, I'd like to know if that is the only source for the Sony Z utilities.
The only obvious drawback of not having the utilities that I see is that I cannot use the "special" buttons, other than that my Z is running great.
The DreamScape desktop options for the Vista Ultimate are really nice to show off though otherwise they are kind of useless use of memory
Thanks,
goranov -
Hi goranov,
The utility software is the same as 32bit. Just download or use the one that come with Z. I install the Vista x64 many times, sometime I have the config of S1 & S2 sometimes I don't have. I don't know the reasons why.
There are many rules and regulations here, that I have to follow. Just like foreigner go to China have to follow law of China. I had been warned once, sometimes you cannot help each other freely because of copyright. I remember 3 years ago I have a VAIO UX, I went to Micro PC Talk everyday people helping each other, such as how to bypass the model check.
Currently I cannot find a better place for Z. Now I will watch more than post. -
Thanks in advance! -
I've uploaded the drivers given by Fredguy and changed some to the correct / updated type. eg. bluetooth driver
This is for people who are having a hard time downloading from rapidshare

i changed it to sony driver -

Sorry. I could get the ones to work on thread so i used the other ones.
Thanks for the Sony bluetooth Drivers. I shall uninstall the Thinkpad bluetooth drivers and install the Sony one. -
Thanks to all on this thread - I got 64 Vista Ultimate running 98% perfect with new bios and Sprint WWAN. Can't turn off modem and DVD.
It is much faster than 32 bit in booting and running applications. Just follow the directions here... -

Thanks for the help everything seems to be working fine except the S buttons and the stamina/speed switch..... am I missing something? These functions should work correct?
**I seems that after the first time I restarted into speed mode The Sony Utilities installer prompted me to install and I did and then immediately retarted again and now the shortcut buttons and speed/stamina switch work.
Just to recap I installed everything in speed mode and installed the sony utilities from the z590 site (vista business 32-bit section) the first time i booted into speed mode. Not sure if it is a coincidence but I also noticed the sony utilities from the sony (official 32-bit) will only install correctly if installed after a fresh restart and then another restart after installation.
Hope this helps.** -

I am having problems installing the 64-bit Nvidia drivers. I installed the intel ones without a problem. Shut down the computer, flipped to the speed setting, turned it on. Then when i install the nvidia drivers my screen turns black. If i turn off the machine and turn it back on i get an error code 43. I am installing it using the installer posted in this thread. I have all my other drivers installed flawlessly (including the firmware parser)
My model is the VGN-Z555DN
Any ideas?
Thanks -
I had to do a new install of Vista Enterprise 64-bit for work. I've gotten most of the Sony drivers restored, but I can't get the fingerprint reader enrollment application up. The device menu says the fingerprint reader is installed and functioning, but there doesn't seem to be any way to use it. The Sony Control Center is also hosed, hanging up on the Security Center option.
Am I missing something simple? -

Link updated again. Why would they remove the drivers?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4077246&postcount=80 -
Nevermind solved the problem with a fresh install (deleting the partition), installing the intel chipset drivers, storage driver, intel video driver, then all the other drivers and sony apps (in order) and then the last thing i did was the nvidia driver using the setup exe file.

Hello guys
I won a Vaio Z and installed 64 bit version. The rapidshare 4 files seems corrupted.
ftp://vug.vaio.sony.co.jp/pub/oth/64/ has lots of files and they are numbered. How can I know which file is for Vaio Z and which file is for every driver? -
I've got Vista 64 running with all drivers. Speed/stamina abd S buttons also work.
However, I can't seem to get the SmartWi gadget to load. SmartWi works fine in itself, just no sidebar gadget. I've loaded using the SOAOTH-15754900-64.EXE file by changing the model.txt, but no gadget.
Last problem, I don't have the Sony power plans nor the ability to turn off/modify hardware settings in advanced options.
Any ideas? -
I can install the 64 bit Biz Vista also.
I got the one with SP 1.
What other manual things you have to do after the install.
Thanks! -
Follow the directions in this thread. Just about everything is listed.
I was unable to get the SmartWi gadget to function, although the app works fine. The deal killer for me was the loss of advanced power options. Can't down the refresh rate, kill memory slots etc. I'm back to 32bit until these are addressed. -
I see no reason to get the 64 bit for now. The Z can only handle 4GB max.
But MSFT will make everyone do 64 bit soon. -
I got the same results - not sidebar gadget but woks fine otherwise.

I read somewhere that 32bit SP1 will see 4MB?
I just put in my 4MB on my Z and under Performance Information and Tools it say 4MB and when I go to Task Manager and under Peformance Tab, I see Total Physical Memory of 3MB.
Who is correct?
Did the 32bit SP1 correct this? -
There is nothing to correct because nothing is broken.
32-bit operating systems are limited. Look it up on google or Microsoft's site. -

Hello all,
can i have a roundup of what is working and what not one by one?
In the last page someone reported that power managment profiles didn't work on 64...is it true for all of you?
