Hi,
Do you have any problem installing hdd protection driver and the TPM Professional Package?
-
HDD protection is working. There is a window popup when protection is activated. Never install TPM pro pack.
-
Thanks for the info. I wish i had known that before i dished out 100 bucks for power dvd. I went with power dvd over Win DVD because power dvd included burning software. I guess i either need to wait for sony to update the 9300 drivers, or dish out another 79 bucks for Win DVD if i want to use the hdmi out for bluray movies.
-
Hi,
Well, my problem was solved as soon as I got SP1 installed. The Laptop automatically said that it was going to switch to SPEED mode and asked for permission to do so. Since I am not the primary user I can't be sure, but I would say that, right now, everything is working "as advertised".
Thanks again for everything. -
From where do I download the driver? My max resolution on my Z555 right now is 1024x768... its horrible lol. I need the video card driver!!
thanks
edit: for vista x64 business that is -
Installed 64bit Vista Ultimate on my Z and I'm getting some strange behavior. The drive keeps on spinning and spinning after I installed a bunch of drivers and Vaio Network Monitor. I can move the mouse but mouse click doens't do anything and neither keyboard so I'm set for a reinstall I think!

Fredguy, is that video driver newer than in Post #45 ?
-
chong67, it just the same. I am waiting so long... for Sony to update the display driver so it can support Cuda, etc. Now Nvidia cannot do its job as expected.
-
Reinstalled x64 and second time was the right one.
Machine is rock stable, I was having random freezes with vista ultimate x86, let's see if that was a driver issue..
I wouldn't say the machine is any much faster for the kind of tools I use but it's always good to be able to use all the RAM in the machine.
It's just a shame I can't easily upgrade the HDD to a faster one without losing the Sony warranty because this really is the thing that slows down this machine. -
Yah you can update the HDD yourself. It will not void your warranty.
I like my Z and everything about it. I just wish Sony would officially support
x64 on it. -
I'd be very surprised of that, I thought there would be some seals that need breaking when dismantling the laptop and therefore voiding the warranty..
-
no seals that I saw. Just make sure to hold on to your original HD and sony has to warranty it.
-
hey guys ive tried to install the drivers abt 3 times now with no success each time reinstalling vista... Everytime i get the problem where its says the battery is not authentic or something... i have been following the instructions on post 48 i think... along with the list in 45. Also, how am i supposed to run some the setups from post 45. For example the firmware extension parser doesnt have a setup file?? This might be a really stupid question but...yea... Any idea were im going wrong? Ive been trying to install it with the 32 bit ones from megamans package. Also brightness buttons dont work along with the graphics switch (Light is on but it doesnt recongize that i switched it)
-
See my post 180. Merry Christmas!
-
so for each piece of hardware you told the device manager to search through that folder one by one??? And arent you just reinstalling some stuff... cuase your installing from the same folder you told device manager to search?? Thanks
-
It's more than a week now since I've had vista x64 installed on my z11 and it hasn't frozen a single time when it used to freeze randomly before (suspecting Nvidia driver issue).
Do people get a good enough performance boost by changing the hard drive to say a WD Scorpio Black caliber drive ?
Thanks everyone for the help to install x64 drivers and apps! -
If you have the 5200 RPM drive, you will see a good performance improvement going to 7200RPM. I got the Seagate Momentus 7200.3 for mine. Highly recommended and I think I got a slight bump in battery life to boot. $89 at newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148336
I have since upgraded again to the Intel X-25M 80GB SSD. Best single upgrade I've ever made. It's very expensive tho. -
Any chance of Sony releasing anything official 64bit for the Z?
-
The answer is yes:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=339059 -
Yah I just saw it.
I think I am going back to 32 bit for a while. My screen just dim out when I get less than 50% on battery. I want to see if this is happening on 32 bit. Then I might have a hardware defect.
I was in a hurry to get on 64 bit without checking it out while on 32 bit. -
With the spring versions of Z with 64 bit Vista in Japan, wouldn't we have vista 64bit drivers pretty soon on the driver download pages?
-
The latest Power Man. can turn off DVD drive when you are on battery.

will have 64 bit as son as they post the drivers for the vgn z610 y/b there allready selling at best buy for 1899.00. sent email to sony asking way drivers and utilities arent posted before they sell . there answer was they dont post drivers just updated drivers . i told them they always post origanal drivers for every model . i think there stalling to sell more z610 s . if we get 64 bit drivers for z we wont buy the new model it the same as all z's except 64 bit . what do you all think.?
-
a bounch of us should all send emails to sony saying that we bought computer where are the drivers ? maybe they will put them up if enough people complain !
-
i also have hunch that the 610 y/b drivers are fixed to be install with win 7 . dont think sony would put out model so close to new os without fixing to run on that os do you. i want them drivers and utilities bad.
-
went to sony page and typed in model and it flashed one page and then switched to another and on the first page it said something about being patient
-
Where do you have this option? I've installed this driver but no option for switching off the DVD drive, unfortunately.
-
This post doesn't really make sense, because windows 7 drivers are compatible with the vista ones, so the only problem is Sony's driver packaging, which in the worst case would be the crappy installer checking for the model.txt file in the windows folder. I don't see any problems here. I think the real problem is that it is possible that Sony releases the experimental drivers on the japanese mirror as the final drivers, which wouldn't help us at all because we already have installed them...
Also doesn't work here, unfortunately. -
@smart0mat
It already set by default. You can try it by pull out the power supply, wait for 20 sec a popup windows say DVD power off.
You can go to VAIO Control Center at VAIO Power Management Viewer with VAIO Optimized plan, you can see it on battery optimized side. -
Yep, I'd tried that. Unfortunately, it's missing. Maybe you've done something else in addition to installing the new vaio power management package? Mybe some other updated vaio tools?
-
Try also install the Sony share lib
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/SONY_SHARED_LIBRARY_5.2_5.2.0.08220.ZIP -
That's it!!! Now it's working. I've to say thank you very much! =)

This is for VGN-Z610Y/B, I think you know how to bypass model test. -
This is awesome. Thanks again. Very nice. But indeed I don't know how to bypass the model test. Never done it yet. Could you give me a hint? Has this something to do with models.txt?
-
just extract files and install it one by one
now cd-dvd off works, but it does not save settings for me in control pannel in Win7
-
smart0mat search for "universal extractor" in google
-
Thanks for the tipp Vovus.
@Win7 ... I've installed the x64 version and the VAIO Powermanagement Tab is completely empty for me. I think Sony is not ready yet. =) -
I'm sorry but how do you bypass model test as it wouldn't allow me to install
-
download and install uniextract. Extract the installation files to get the actual setup file to bypass the model check
-
seems Sony will not going to show us the new graphics driver for VGN-Z610Y/B, coz VGN-Z620D will use the same one as we all wish to replace 7.15.11.7449

Great news nvidia 185.20 and intel 1608 drivers working for Vista 64 and very likely Windows 7 x64. Stamina\speed switch working fine with new drivers.
Head over to his link for more info as it gets posted http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=342947 -
good look potpeye i was about to post that myself. I just did a complete re-instal 64bit on my z540. Im going to start doing drivers tonight. I read in other posts that there is a specific order to do the driver installs, shared library, utilities. is this correct????????
-
Hey fredguy Im using uniextract like u guys said and using the ewise, i get a load of .ewi files from it. I saw u posted those to a rapidshare link, im assuming in an easier way to install. Only problem now is it wont let anyone else download them bc they been downloaded 10 times. could you help me out somehow? upload them to another site or another rapidshare? I will post my results after I am done installing. Im running windows 7 64bit as well.
Does anyone know if there is a windows 7 64bit vaio Z specific forum??????????? -
Rapidshare link fixed

So no one with Vista x64 care to update thier video drivers? Posted above the link and info on how to install latest Nvidia and Intel drivers. I want to see people tweak these drivers and or see better performance after install.
-
hello,
ive a new vaio z notebook and ive read this thread for a few months now.
im very interested in installing windows vista 64 bit onto my vaio and im confused about all the drivers out there.
my questions:
1. do you recommend switching to 64 bit?
does it improve the performance or does the performance of e.g. the nvidae card decrease?
which driver package do i have to download?
where can i find it?
does everything work like it should?
what are the advantages/disadvantages compared to 32 bit?
thanks in advance
matt.
