eyyy...after 3 hours trying I decided to post for help...
Just when pressing the "Post" button it worked to install! ;)
I set the graphics switch from Speed to Stamina, as only difference to a previous try - seems it helped (and might help others...).

Now I get the BSOD when I try to boot...much better!

    Hi Guys,

I am getting a Z36GD over the weekend... and it is coming with Vista Business 64 bit SP1 installed... that means Sony now officially supports 64 bit drivers right?

go to Start -> Control panel -> Classic View -> System -> Device Manager -> right click on unknown device -> update driver software -> select to the location where you have the drivers -> update.

It will automatucally install those, one of which will be SFEP (Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device

I'm going to attempt to do this later when I'm home. So as long as I download drivers and follow the steps that Firestone posted on page 26, I should be fine? Is there anything extra I need to know.

everything working with this drivers on vgn - z590 windows 7 64bit. thanks a lot man, because i could install drivers from z690 while they were in .exe format ;) performance shown in windows is the same as they were on 32bit vista. later i will try to install updated nvidia drivers, maybe something will change

btw. windows 7 installed without any error on my H2oBIOS :) you just have to wait until next message "press any key to continue set up ..."

I have not been on this thread for many months.

I got a few questions for you all:

    1. Nothing seems to have change. Sony still has NOT put out the official Vista 64 bit drives for the Z540. Are they ever going to do it?

    2. Anyone know when the next new model of Z540 is coming out?

    3. I put it in my bag and I think it has been squash between books. Now I see a few scratches on my screen! I have started to put cloth on my screen. It maybe too late but I will be more careful with my next Sony.

I love my Z540. You notice the palm rest stay cool? Its the only laptop I know that stay cool there.

Update : from my dead cold hands .. nobody seems to be reading this thread anymore. :-(

Hope people still read this thread as I have issues with Vista Enterprise 64 bit..

I've got everything running but not the 3G connection; I have Globe Trotter Connect installed but I can't get Vaio Smart Network to run to check to see if its enabled (Windows says it stops working - same as Vaio Control Center to run); currently when running the Globe Trotter Software it says device not found.

Also I want to install the fingerprint authentication whilst logging in but I'm unsure what to install

    Thanks!

You don't use Fn + F5, F6 for the brightness?
For the finger print, install QL Protector Suite, and Infineon TPM Package for the TPM if you need it

Well, it been awhile now, so has anyone collected all the latest 64 bit driver for windows vista and the soon upcoming windows 7? I or we all would appreciated if those that were able to have all driver would kindly post and shared with the community. It a pain that Sony never even update the driver, but only a few on the support site. Anyway, thank you at advance... ;D

Hey guys i just installed windows vista ultimate 64 bit, and i'm experiencing many problems with the drivers of my sony vaio sz791n/x, and my understanding is that sony just released drivers for vista business 32bit, and i tried to install them without any results. Is there another place where i can find the 64bit version, or either from another "compatible" model? Hope somebody can help me out! Thank you all

    One question Firestone:

Why do you install 2b after 2a? That would overwrite the intel drivers installed by Nvidia graphics driver, no?

I am confused. Your numbering does not correspond to the order you install those drivers? I thought 2a came before 2b.

If so, 2b overwrites 2a's install.

don't ask me... go ask fredguy ... i'm following his numbering method, and just updating the s/w version to latest. that way it look more standardized

installation of drivers doesn't matter in what format..

but i will recommend installing in this order
    1. Sony Programmable I/O control device
    2. Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device
    3. Intel / Nvidia driver

For the rest, it doesn't matter.

    EDIT:
I would recommend installing this Realtek driver instead. It does seem to give a performance boost in the Vaio Z tiny speakers

    Hi,
I am very confused with installing Windows-7 64 BIT on my VGN-Z590 laptop (1 year old).
    Here are my questions:

    1. The files that I download in the www.4shared.com ... all seem to be 95.7MB, and contain the exact same information. Why are there 4 of them?

    2. Once we install Windows-7 64 bit, we then install the drivers in the order that Firestone indicated
    a. Sony Programmable I/O control device
    b. Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device
    c. Intel / Nvidia driver
    d. Everything else... Go in order by Fredguy if we want.

    3. Is there any other hidden problems that I might encounter?

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Hi,

    1. there are 4 parts because 4shared only allow 100mb limit.
Hence i have to spilt the files up, as the installation files in total contained like 350mb or something like that...

    2. these are for vista and not windows 7 drivers... some functions will not work. you need to find the drivers which i have posted in the windows 7 thread instead

    3. you should not faced other issues. take note to install new bios as indicated in the windows 7 posting first before doing anything else.

you should use this thread instead
