I've solved the camera issue, the Vista driver works very well on windows 7, I've updated the driver as in the guide using the old driver and it worked: :D

but I faced another issue, the camera capture utility and filter are not working and i don't know why, even the old ones.
I couldn't install the capture utility... Any advices man ???

You need to install the Vista image filter driver for VCCU to work. How did you install the image filter driver?

I would say 10-12 minutes. Installed Win7 on a new partition, checked battery drain in Vista 32bit as well, runs down rather quickly too, about 14-16 min. So I guess it's the battery. You can buy a new one, but I think its way too expensive. I'm just gonna stick to my power cord. Good luck.

Ummm ... well I've tried to find the "Sony image filter driver" for vista in the sony website but I failed.
could you tell me where to find it please??

And I had another problem yesterday and I resolved it today :s
I had a BOD "Blue Screen Of Death", when ever I try to shutdown or restart it appears :(
yaaaaaaa ... it sucks i know. I spent too much time looking for the reason and finally I found that the reason where the "Arc Soft application".
I don't know why but this is the cause... !!
I removed it and everything went back to normal.

If you have any suggestions I would be more thank happy to listen to them. :)

Use the one linked in my guide. Run the exe without extracting. This filter driver is for Vaio Camera Capture Utility, not Arcsoft software (I haven't tested it). Why do you need the camera capture utility anyway?

I don't "Need" it, but sometimes i like to take pictures from the laptop camera, and now I can't do that :s

I tried what you told me and it didn't work, I downloaded the filter from the link you provided and I've installed it, and then i tried to install the capture utility but nothing happened, I tried both Vista and windows 7 versions.

And about the "arc soft", you haven't tried it yet right!!
well when you do, keep us posted :), as its nice to have the face tracking feature again in windows 7.

    cheers.

Just wanted to thank coolguy for his guide. I took the plunge and clean-installed 64-bit Windows 7 on my FZ 4000.

Am using a slightly different 8400M GT driver (185.85) and a different camera driver. Most of the other things are as per coolguy's guide.

So far, everything seems to be working fine (HDMI, webcam, mic, volume controls, Itunes for Ipod touch & Apple TV, etc). If I see something broken, I'll post it and the remedy I found here.

The movies appear grainier than usual (not a dealbreaker). The big surprise was how much cooler & quieter the notebook runs as compared to before

Love the speed, the new Aero features and the new taskbar!

    I commented my problem.
With that driver memory card (Texas Instruments memory card driver 2.0.0.19) and when I run the program everest I get a blue screen.
If you disable the device no longer have that problem when you run everest.
Do you pass someone the same?

Hey guys I have one more question before I change over to Windows 7. I am converting from a 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Windows 7 and want to do a clean install with a format. If I do this format will I lose the sony recovery partition that came with my FZ-140E or will it just format the rest of my hard-drive. I have already made the backup DVD so if I ever want to reinstall Windows Vista I can use this.

Thanks in advance for all the help and the great guide.

Hi. I've successfully moved from Vista 32 bit to W7 64-bit on my VGN FZ-4000 CTO. One problem I have is with the windows default driver for sound. When I want to change the playback device (laptop speaker or headphones or HDMI), I find having to do it manually rather than the OS recognizing automatically that I've plugged the headphone into the jack, for example. I'd rather not change to the Sigmatel drivers as they have lower volume levels. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks

I don't have this issue. You should restart your system once after Windows 7 installs its default audio driver. Try uninstalling the driver from the device manager, restart and let Windows install the driver and restart one more time.

Now nearly everything works, but the "multimedia buttons" ( Play, skip, stop ) still doesn't work. Which can solve this problem?

The multimedia buttons should work without any driver in WMP. I am assuming you are talking about an FZ.

Very nice Guide !!!I have 2 questions. Will the guide be the same for a Sony VGN-AR630E.And secondly would it be the same guide if I were to load Vista 64 bit on on it ?I also have the means to install windows 7 64 bit.Home Pemium. It came with a 32 bit and a 64 bit disc. And if I am not mistaken I can do a Clean install of windows 7 even though it is an upgrade disc.I think you can go into advanced options, format drive ,and then install widows 7 64 bit.

For similar hardware the drivers should be the same. Also you can download AW-390 series 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 from Sony US support and extract them using Uniextract software. You can do a clean install with the upgrade disc. Various methods are available online if the upgrade product key fails activation after a clean install.

Here are working drivers and software for the WebCam Motion Eye VGP-VCC4:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?5mncwztggym

    Install instructions:

    - First install Ricoh (Sony VGP-VCC4) camera driver 6.1008.207.0 with the DPInst64.exe file and restart the computer.
    - Install VAIO Camera Capture Utility (2.7.03.09250)
    - Install Sony image filter driver 1.1.7.4020

That´s all, now all programs like Skype, Messenger and many others works properly in Windows 7 x64.

Thanks a million for this guide, it worked very well upgrading my FZ21m to W7pro64.

I have one issue left that I want to deal with though. Back on Vista I had two audio interfaces, HDMI (a) and the normal 3.5mm jack (b). If there was no HDMI cable connected a) displayed as "disconnected" in the sound settings.

So what I did was that I set a) as default, and that made the sound always go through a) whenever I had connected the laptop through an external display (hdmi) and switched automatically to b) when it was disconnected.

Now, with my new setup, it looks the same, but the audio settings say that the hdmi interface is always connected, even when the cable is not connected. This forces me to actively change the interface every time in the settings I connect it via hdmi.

Why does it always show "connected"? Is it due to the graphics driver or the sound driver? I am using:

    AUDIO_DRIVER_SIGMATEL_5.0Q073QD_6.10.5548.0 LOGO.ZIP and
    VistaWin7x64_185.85.exe (dox modified).

In my previous setup i was using STDAUD-01487701-UN.exe (SigmaTel™ High Definition Audio CODEC Driver 6.10.5614.0) and
    Forceware 185.20 dox modified

    Thanks, I'll try that one.

Actually, I missed that I was trying an older one than the one included in your guide..I'll try that one, and if it doesn't work I'll go with the 6.10.5614.0 driver.

While searching I stumbled across these: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/23790-latest-sigmatel-idt-modded-drivers-for-win-7-and-vista/

Driver versions as new as 6.10.6255... Modded included many hidden features...anybody tried these on a vaio?

    EDIT

I have tried the drivers...still the same problem. My HDMI audio interface always shows as "ready". So if I set it to default it won't work.

I'm thinking this problem is related to the graphics driver

Sony utilities (SSL, SUS, VES and VCC) are updated to the latest versions. Nvidia driver is updated to 195.62, with attached modified inf, and instructions for modding inf to make the official driver install in your Vaio FZ are added. S-button registry modification is changed.

I installed the latest graphics driver as well. Problem persists. HDMI audio interface still always shows as connected. I guess it's just a difference in the win 7 64bit implementation. Maybe there is a way to make a shortcut on disabling/enabling sound interfaces via commandline?

In my FZ, the HDMI shows sometimes as "not plugged in" and "ready" sometimes. Uninstall your current audio driver, and then reinstall it.

is there so much difference in my hardware from yours? the only problem that i think i will face is with my Dual SSDs which are in RAID configuration...i hope Win7 can find the controller on its own

Thank you for such an excellent guide - I got everything working apart from the Motion Eye camera - I managed to install the drivers and windows recognize it correctly.

However in the Device Manager nder the cam driver panel it says "Windows did not start a related device driver. To learn more, click the Driver tab and then click Driver Details"

Well there is no further information in there. And the camera light comes on but displays a black frame.

I dug a little on google and found this could be a USB related issue, but I have no solutions to it.

Anyone have similar problems/ offer any suggestions? Does your camera work for you?

    Thanks

hi all, i am new to this forum. today i installed a windows 7 RTM style 64 bit OS. i installed everything as stated. im hoping it all works. i just had a few problems with the camera apps. the instalation was saying that "the update is not intended for use with your computer model" i was wondering whether i am doing something wrong? also in the first post is Universal extractor an actual program or the windows extractor that comes with the windows 7 software. if so do i have to download this "universal extractor" to be able to download the camera stuff.

also. is there any way i can download a windows 7 software package for my FZ VGN-FZ323 such as camera utility and all of those other vaio software that i had on my windows vista vaio setup? ie. the folders with apps with VAIO in the sname available in the all programs menu.

Universal extractor is a different program. You cannot download any 32-bit drivers from your Vista support site, only 64-bit.

    My Vaio FZ-160E

Thanks so much for this guide. I've been looking around after trying one a while ago that didn't work probably because it was for other models.

One question I didn't install #11 11. SFEP (Sony Firmware Extension Parser driver) 8.0.1.1: as I jumped ahead and installed the memory card driver first and then realized there was an order and started at #1. Do I need this? What's it do? How do I install it now that I don't have any uninstalled devices anymore with yellow marks.

I tried installing the Intel 965 video driver but get an error like DPInst.something is missing or something. How can I fix this.

Also, if you do the AV Mode item, does the AV mode work even if it's worthless?

    Thanks again!!
