Damn, Intel keeps changing their download links, I will fix them soon.
    Thanks for letting me know.

Edit: Links fixed. Intel had removed the zip files, you can now run the setup to install the driver.

You need to download the 64-bit Nvidia driver and replace the modded INf as mentioned.

    Hi everyone
I have a vaio laptop VGN-FW 280J. I had a vista and Ubunutu on my machine. I had many problems with my windows and I decided to recover it. I used from recovery menu of Grub2 and tried to recover it. Maybe it was wrong. Anyway, I lost both ubunutu and vista. I tried to recover windows using recovery DVD. It did n't work. Finally, I decided to install windows 7. During installation, when it asked to where do you want to install windows? I found an error: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware maynot support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." After that, I started working with command prompt and using disk part, I cleaned HDD and repartitioned and set it as primary partition and the formatted it. I thought that the problem solved, but, it is still remaining. In some forums, I found that if I can disable AHCI mode in BIOS, I can install windows 7. I tried to disable, it was unsuccessful. Becase my BIOS is aptio setup utility 1.23.1109 and it doesn't advanced menu. With this situation, how can I install windows 7?
    Thanks in advance
    Vahid

You can use the same modded INF, but you need to change the driver date and version in the INF.

I can't extract any of the Sony Drivers using uniextract. I always get this error message:

"It appears to be a(n) Wise Installer Package", which is supported, but extraction failed. Please see the log file"

And the log file has this:
"ð E_WISE * WISE SETUP unpacker * Veit Kannegieser * 1999.12.19..2002.07.01 þ reading database of known formats Can not open file "C:\Users\Luís\Downloads\uniextract161_noinst\bin\e_wise.ini". "

I installed the drivers without extracting them and everything's work fine but the camera.

    Any clues?

You did notice that the title of this thread says it is about the VAIO FZ, right? I would suggest you ask this question in a thread about the AW model.

I tested the drive with HDMI and it works perfect. My feeling is that it has a noticeable improvement in sound quality and feel of stereo sound at HDMI and the laptop.

I had removed all the Sony related settings from the INF. I had noticed an improvement in the internal speaker volume (a bit louder now) when compared to the previous driver.

There is a very detailed step by step guide at the begining of this thread. Pay atttention to the sequence of install it DOES matter. Your best bet is to uninstall everything you did and use the guide to do it the right way.

    Hi to everyone!

Firstly I would like to thank to Coolguy for this excellent work.
My Sony FZ-21 M is perfect, everything works.

But I have a problem, I can´t suspend my computer, when I do this, it suspends, but when I try to awaken appears this error:

    *** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
*** The system has halted ***
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error

and I have to shut down the pc (in button)...This error appears blue screen.

    In Windows 7 32bit i don't have any error.
In Linux 64 and 32 bit i don't have any error.

    has anyone had this error?

    Thanks for help :)

    nunoaomaia,

Bad RAM or The GPU. I had this error once/ twice after I changed the RAM to 4 GB, but didn't happen after that.

How often are you getting this BSOD?

    Thanks for the fast reply,

This error appeared after i changed the RAM to 4 GB.

The BSOD error appears whenever I will suspend the computer.
Already tested with the old ram (2 GB) and also gives the same error.
What led me to conclude that Windows 64 bit.

I'm sorry for the bad english, because i'm Portuguese :)

    Hey coolguy,

    Great in-depth guide.

I followed your directions for step 4 because my computer would randomly freeze for about 5 minutes (screen still visible) when playing youtube videos or using flash. Sometimes when the computer freezes, the screen goes black for one second, and a balloon pops out saying 'nvidia display driver has failed, but recovered successfully'. Anyways, I updated my nvidia display driver to the latest 285.62 version for my Vaio CW, but the problem still persists.

I've checked that my flash player plugin is up to date on firefox so I'm sure its not the browsers problem.

This problem started occurring shortly after I did a full system restore via Vaio Care.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Anyone interested in setting up a Windows 8 guide on this laptop? I had installed the first developer preview that came out last, and all drivers worked. Yesterday I downloaded and installed the new consumer preview, and the Texas Instruments Memory card drivers did not work! I have not spent much look into this, but do you folks feel it would be worth a while to give Windows 8 a shot on this laptop? Last I checked, it booted really really fast and everything worked except that the iDevices did not connect to iTunes and I had to save the C: image and went back to Windows 7.

If that driver worked on the preview, there should be no reason for it not to work on the curent one. The driver model didn't change at all. This is odd. What happened? Did it refuse to install? Did it appear to install but not work? What were the symptoms?

For those of you trying Windows 8 Consumer Preview, you need to disable the "Driver signature enforcement" under the advanced boot options to be able to install the Nvidia and the IDT audio drivers.

It finally worked (in fact all drivers did), I had not picked the right driver set (ID 10 T error :-E). In any case, I imaged my C drive and went back to Windows 7. This hybrid of tablet/desktop OS isn't my thing, miss the start menu (and ability to type within) too much. I will come back to my image in future may when I need a taste change.

Thanks to coolguy for your support, and others as well!. I'm about to sell my VAIO VGN-FZ240E laptop. I haven't used the camera for so long, cause I didn't find the right driver after I upgrade to Win7 64bits.

This is the right driver for the FZ240 built-in 1.3 camera:
    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Vaio/Original/FZ3_CAMERA_DRIVER.ZIP

In fact, it's the Ricoh (Sony VGP-VCC8) camera driver version 09/04/2007, 6.1006.211.0, cause I got no solution with version 06/18/2007, 6.1004.211.0

So maybe you should upgrade this one on your first post.

Another issue I found is on RAM memory card upgrade from 2GB (2x1gb) to 4GB (2x2gb). Trying Win7.32bits, it was recognized 3gb aproximately. So then I've tried Win7.64bits, and the problem was solved it shows 4.0GB.

Now I can sell my vaio which I loved and it's still in great shape, it served me so well.
