Very Cool! I got my VGN-FZ285U model up and running nicely with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Thank you very much.

Does anyone have some suggestions to install WinDVD BD? I used one for Vista Ultimate, but the installation process only started up and went away quietly.

    Thanks again.

Added Nvidia 257.21 WHQL 64-bit driver and modded inf. The modded inf now supports all the FZ and AR models with Nvidia 8400M GT, 8600M GS, and 8600M GT.

The modded inf is identical to the official Sony Nvidia driver inf, with custom LCD color profiles and EDID's.

Thanks to Nvidia for including support for all the old Vaio GPU's in the newest driver (but not listing the GPU's ).

the 32-bit modded inf for the Nvidia 257.21 driver that you posted seems to be working great so far, thank you. I have not tested to see if turning on powermizer will still cause dpc latency spikes and cause sound "hiccups" with this driver yet though. Ill let u know soon.

I don't have the sound hiccups with this driver. The 257 series release driver seems to have the fixed this issue apparently.

Hey coolguy-- trying a new approach. I'm trying to get my S1 & S2 buttons to work by using the settings utility tweak you included. When I edit my CurrentSettingProfileData.xml file, the data reads:
    Code:
    CurrentSetting Machineid='0'
instead of "18999" Like you suggested. I'm not sure how find my "model ID number" as opposed to my model (which is vgn-ar770). Can you help me?

Hey, i am new to the forums and been reading most of the post's on this thread since i am considering upgrading my FZ21S Vista Home to Windows 7 32bit. I am not sure if i still need to follow all of the steps listed to get everything to work or if a majority of Sony drivers and utilities will still work just from migrating from Vista home 32 to Win7 32.
Nonetheless i am downloading everything just incase.

Can somebody please re-up this as this website is blocked.

Megaupload, Rapidshare still works if anyone would be kind enough to upload it.

First off this thread is about 64 bit clean install not what you are doing, so please make sure you post in the right thread. Second to find the right thread check my signature line below for a link to a thread I started about an inplace upgrade of Vista to Win7 if you are indeed migrating in that way. If you are thinking of a clean install there are 32 bit threads about that as well.

This guide works with both 32-bit and 64-bit. But you need to download the 32-bit SATA AHCI driver and Alps touchpad (I will be adding it soon).
I will upload to MU or RS soon.

The drivers and utilities are both 32-bit and 64-bit compatible (except the SATA driver and Alps touchpad driver, I will add the 32-bit links now). I had changed the title of this thread, but it didn't update in the forum.

    Hi Coolguy,

Please tell me which Nvidia driver should I use after all, 198.05 or 257.21? Which is more proper for my GeForce 8600M GS and Blu-ray drive? Have I understood correctly that it's 198.05 and for this version it's not necessary to use modified inf but only to install it as any other regular driver? And what's the difference between these versions?

Thank you for your excellent thread.

This guide is great. The driver for the memory card reader worked terrifically.
However, using the Alps Touchpad driver did not restore the scroll function to my notebook.

I did a clean install from Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my VGN-FZ4000.

Previously I tried installing the original driver in compatibility mode but no luck. The driver listed here for 64 bit didn't restore the scroll function either, even after reboot.

Any ideas? I know it's just a simple scroll function but I'm ready to install the 32 bit version before I revert to using a USB mouse.

I think that blu-ray players don't go well with modded drivers. The 257.21 driver is close to the official Sony driver. You can use either one of the drivers, that works with your blu-ray player.

You did something wrong. Uninstall the driver from device manager (check delete driver), and then restart as many times as Windows prompts you, and then install the 64-bit driver.

Coolguy, need your help.. I am new to the site but have been following this thread very closely..

I have got a FZ38M, i put win 7 on a while ago, managed to get everything else working, then found your guide and managed to get the volume and brightness etc updated (THANKS) but i am stuck on getting the S1 and AV Mode to work, i hear the beep when i press it but it will only let me assign mute and other common functions like that, i cannot set it to launch my own software and its driving me mad! AV Mode wont launch anything even when i regedit to laugh media center..no such luck!

    Could anyone help on this?

Been bugging me for a while!

    Thanks

Did you install all the Sony utilities in the order mentioned as per my guide? For the AV mode, you need the Vaio launcher software.

Yes, i followed it all but for some reason it will only beep and not launch anything, and as for the S1 key all i want it to do is hibernate but for some reason, hibernate is not in the menu and if i edit the F files to allow for hibernate the control centre will not see it..

I also forgot to add that the Vaio Launcher Settings when advanced is clicked in the Control Centre is all in Chinese..

I do have an idea but i will require your help just to get the launch application option to work then i can type the command for hibernate in the application location bar..

    Thanks

Got the solution for Wireless Switch Utility for Vaio. WSSU does not work as expected in Win7 with new Sony Shared Library. The solution is to use shared DLLs separetly. Switcher.exe must use old snyutils.dll (4.0.0.6270). Other programs should use new snyutils.dll (5.4.0.4270).
    1. Modify switcher.exe in HEX editor (like HEX Editor Neo). Find a combination 53 00 6E 00 79 00 55 00 74 00 69 00 6C 00 73 00 (S.N.Y.U.T.I.L.S)
and change 69 to 74. The result is S.N.U.T.T.L.S
    2. Go to Regedit
    HKLM\Software\Sony Corporation\Shared Info\Shared DLLs
    create SNYUTTLS.DLL string key with value C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\Sony Utilities\SnyUttls.dll
    3. Rename old SnyUtils.dll to SnyUttls.dll and place to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\Sony Utilities
    4. Start switcher.exe and enjoy! Now you can turn blue lamp on and off like you did in Vista.

Thanks for finding this. But replacing the original SnyUtils.dll with SnyUttls.dll will make the fn key control non-functional. Do you still have the fn key control working after doing this tweak? I think you need to create an additional SnyUttls.dll, for the WSSU.

He is not REPLACING it. He is ADDING it. His solution looks BRILLIANT. He is creating a way for the two versions to coexist. I can't wait to try this out. My only worry is the internal naming of the two versions of the DLL. But that may not be an issue. I'll try to test this latter tonight.

    Thanks Vadja73!!

I think I misunderstood the term "old". Anyway in 64-bit, the WSSU doesn't control the wireless setting as supposed to (messes up the wireless connection). It will be worth trying in 32-bit.

I tested it in 32-bit. The latest testing demonstrated WSSU should not be run in tray constantly. If it is it is impossible to ajust screen brightness after system was hibernated. So the usage is as follows:
    1. After system is started, BT blue light is on.
    2. Run WSSU and turn it off.
    3. Click 'Exit' to remove WSSU from systray.
    3. Hibernating the system does not affect the brightness ajusting.

Yes, I think you took old to mean the CURRENT one (i.e. snyutils.dll -5.4.0.4270) and not the old version (i.e. snyutils.dll - 4.0.0.6270).

So now I have to figure out the easiest way to get may hands on the snyutils.dll - 4.0.0.6270 file to try this out.

    What WSSU version are you using? I cannot find the HEX key combination 53 00 6E 00 79 00 55 00 74 00 69 00 6C 00 73 00 (S.N.Y.U.T.I.L.S) in switcher.exe. I am using WSSU version 3.6.00.18210.

I did but because the pages were all in Russian I had to use Google Translate to navigate my way around. I did get the RAR file and archived the contents of my Program Files\Sony\Wireless Switch Setting Utility\ and replaced it with the contents of yours. I then Program Files\common files\sony shared\sony utils\ added my SnyUttls.DLL there (the version I have is from my original install not the 4.0.0.6270 one you suggested).

At first the dialogs all came up in Russian. So I replaced SwitcherLocale.DLL with my original one. And got English. But It still didnt work for me as the ONLY option was the 2.4ghz, my 5 Ghz was missing and I saw no Bluetooth entry.

So now I need to try to find 4.0.0.6270 and see if that is the missing piece in this puzzle.

Missing one of Wi-Fi band means it could be disabled in WLAN properties in device manager. Choose 802.11a/b/g to get all bands and 802.11b/g to use only 2.4GHz. I faced with this and changing to a/b/g was the clue. :).
Will try to get you with 4.0.0.6270 snyutils.dll.

You can use the link to Sony Europe I posted above and get Sony Share Library.
Another way is using Sony Shared Library for Vista from Sony US. It could work, I guess.. Because they supply WSSU for Vista only. Well, we have to get snyutils.dll from the package that support WSSU, put that dll to the "patched" registry key and get excellent result.

PS. I started this stuff with HEX and cracking WSSU because the screen dimmer, worked fine with Vista, stops satisfying me in Win7. It stops working after wake-up from hibernate. This drived me wild! And I began investigations. :). Sony Europe said that they are not going to support Win7 for my laptop. Why? I do not know. Basically Win7 should work but a number of features can or can not. That was their answer. Uglies! I browsed the Internet days and night and found this guide. I downloaded Sony Shared Library for US where they support Win7 and what a miracle! :). It works! But that blue light... I couldn't sleep at night! There must be a way to turn it off! And I got it. Now blue light is off, WSSU controls BT device and screen dimmer works fine! Now I'm sure we can turn your blue light off as well! :) :)

So sorry for Russian in soft - my laptop is for Russia and they put only russian software there..

When I reverted back to my current WWSU I got both 2.4 and 5 GHZ.

The Sony Europe link was also in Russian.

Patched registry key??? What key did we need to patch? You mean patched .EXE don't you?

It would be great if you can provide me with 4.0.0.6270 to try out.

Gary, Coolguy is right. Take 4.0.0.6270 Shared Library from FTP, rename snyutils.dll to snyuttls.dll and place it to the folder with snyutils.dll. Slightly modify registry and get enjoy using switcher.exe I sent to you! :).

Coolguy, did you get success in cracking WSSU? :)

I will try this later and post my result. 64-bit is a bit tricky, since the WSSU doesn't work properly (the wifi band selection) with 64-bit.

Just a quick note that I had success with a combination of Vadja73's trick and my original WSSU files. I'll post more details in the morning, as it is almost 3:00AM here. ZZZzzzzzzzz.......

OK so here is what transpired last night.

I downloaded a copy of the Sony Shared Library 4.0.00.06270 via ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/SONY_SHARED_LIBRARY_4.0_073Q_4.0.00.06270.ZIP

I then set a restore point and prepared to install that version with the intent of then copying off the SnyUtils.DLL and doing a system restore using the point I just made. When I attempted to install the library, it failed saying I already had a more recent version. So I used the universal extractor to extract the contents of the DATA1.CAB file that was located in that ZIP file. In that CAB file was the SnyUtils.DLL file I needed, which i copied to a safe place.

I then saved off the current contents of C:\program files\Sony\Wireless Switch Setting Utility (aka Switcher) to a temporary directory and replaced it with the contents of Vadja73's WSSU folder he provided. That contained a patched version of SWITCHER.EXE that was setup to use SnyUt tls.DLL. I renamed the copy of SnyUtils.dll I had just extracted to SnyUt tls.DLL and moved it into the C:\program files\common files\Sony Shared\Sony Utilities.

    I fired up RegEdit and created the string key: HKLM\Software\Sony Corporation\Shared Info\Shared DLLs\SNYUTTLS.DLL with the value C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\Sony Utilities\SnyUttls.dll

I then fired up the modified Switcher and was presented with a Russian user interface! No big deal. I went to the folder where I had saved off MY version of the WSSU directory, copied the SwitcherLocale.DLL and put it in the working WSSU folder. Now I had an English interface. And I saw only the 2.4 ghz option and Bluetooth option. 5 GHZ was nowhere to be found. Remembering something Vadja73 said about that issue if you didn't have 5 ghz enabled when you fired up Switcher the first time, I fired up my original WSSU (the one that showed only 2.4 and 5 ghz but no bluetooth). I enabled 5 ghz, closed switcher and fired up the modified switcher. Now I saw 2.4, 5 ghz and Bluetooth. Hurrah. Oh wait, no joy. I cannot turn on or off 2.4 and 5ghz independently. If I turn on 2.4 and close switcher and reopen it both 2.4 and 5 ghz are turned on. Sigh. I verified this by opening device manager and going to the wireless card and in properties looking at the Advanced tab. There you will find an entry named Wireless Mode which lets you see which modes are enabled. That interface verified my findings about the inability to switch on or off 2.4 and 5 ghz independently.

Thought about this a bit and decided to revisit my original version of switcher which I had saved off. (BTW that is version 3.6.0.13120) I copied the contents of my saved folder back into C:\program files\Sony\Wireless Switch Settings Utility. I opened up the Hex editor that Vadja had recommended and searched for SnyUtils.DLL inside Switcher.EXE. But I could not find it. I then realized that I needed to look for that string using UNICODE search. The moment I did that, I found it immediately! (Note: Vadja73 had given us the search string AND a set of HEX characters to search for. If you look at those you see each letter in SnyUtils.dll is separated by a HEX 00, this meant the string is in unicode representation, with two bytes per character. So if your text editor does not support unicode searches, do a hex search instead.) I modified the unicode string to point to SnyUt tls.dll. Then I fired up the newly modified switcher and Voilà, I had full control of all three options.

I suspect, after consulting with my friend Rajesh (aka Coolguy) that the Switcher utility that Vadja73 had was specific to his model of FZ. And by using my own original version, it set the right options. Again I verified that the switches were indeed turning on and off 2.4 and 5 ghz independently by looking in device manager again.

Bottom line, go back to your original (Vista) WSSU installer (Switcher.exe) modify it per Vadaja's instructions. Get a copy of the Sony Shared Library version 4.0.00.06270, extract JUST the SnyUtils.dll (don't install the whole thing). Rename it to SnyUt tls.dll place it in the same folder as your current SnyUtils.dll. Create the registry entry per Vadja73's instructions.

And then you should have full control once again of 2.4 ghz, 5 ghz and BlueTooth.

Thanks again to Vadja73 for discovering this!!! And to my friend Rajesh for his help in sorting out the last details. Rep to both of them!

This guide is great! I'm up an running Win 7 64-bit with no problems EXCEPT one. Windows wont detect my built-in bluetooth controller. I have the FZ460E with the Broadcom Controller, but it is not listed in my device manager at all. I've tried installing the Broadcom drivers but it tells me to plug in my bluetooth controller. Also, I setup WSSU but the bluetooth option is non-existent. Anyone else have a similar issue?
