Installed Win7 64-bit on my Z570N. Everything "seems" to work except for the brightness in speed mode.

Another issue I am having is, even though I specify so in the power management, when I open the lid, my laptop does not resume from hibernation or sleep!. Anybody else having this issue? I installed Sony Px Engine, and after that point, my DVD-rom does not auto turn-off anymore. I am wondering if this is also causing the problem with resume from sleep!

Also, how necessary do you guys find the ISB Utility? Its not hogging all that much resources, but still....

I have half the mind to disable (or not install at all) Sony Power Management as well....

Update*: I re-installed Sony Power Management, and that seems to have fixed the resume from sleep/hibernation when opening the lid. I suspect Px Engine messed that up.

Any recommendations on a 64-bit Anti-virus software for the Z series? Currently using McAfee Virusscan Enterprise 8.7i with 64-bit scan engine.

I am using Avira Antivir. I think this is a German AV-Software. This software is written for a 32bit OS but it works with 64bit Win7. Could this be a problem, that it isnt a native 64bit program?

For the people who've installed Win7 64-bit on their Z5x series laptop (the original Z) that came with Sprint Novatel EV-DO card, how did you go about installing a 64-bit drivers/software (SmartWi, Novatel, etc)? Sony website only has a 32-bit version of this software/driver for the Z5x.

The Z6x series SmartWi 64-bit is for verizon, and when I installed it (after using UniExtract to bypass hardware check), I ended up having 4 unknown device drivers that couldn't get their drivers installed properly.

    Help appreciated!

Ok, Ive installed Windows 7 (clean install) on my Z - but every graphic driver Ive tried from this forum has failed me. They either dont install, or hose windows altogether.

Anybody? All I want is an Nvidia driver (32 bit Windows 7) to install that will output hdmi. Too much to ask?

    Thanks in advance....

I've installed Win7 several times on my Z so far to assess the optimal installation. When I install Win7 64-bit on my Z with the graphics switch on Speed, there is a point in the installation that the screen messes up (vertical colorful lines). This is towards the end of the installation process, before the windows first starts up.

Anybody else encountered this problem as well?

    -----------------------
Also, are people finding that the Z goes into sleep mode much slower when Speed mode is enabled for Win7 64bit, compared to Stamina? Stamina, is relatively much quicker.

32 bit Novatel EV-DO driver worked for me. You can also install Smart wi 4.5 to enable WWAN.

For Windows 7 install (both 32 or 64 bit) I am also finding that using Vista's nvidia graphics driver, it overwrites the newer Windows 7 intel chipset, and as a result, the Stamina mode ends up performing horribly compared to Speed Mode (based on a benchmarking program for Matlab).

Nautis's newer Windows 7 hybrid graphics drivers seem to work much better, however, the problem of driver signing is bit annoying, especially when that dseo13b.exe enables Test Mode indefinitely to bypass the driver signing.

I checked this by going back to Vista, and in both Stamina and Speed mode, the benchmark is much much better.

The Z actually crawls in loading Powerpoint documents (using PowerPoint 2003) in Windows 7 under Stamina mode. As soon as I switch to Speed, its fine. Its definitely the hybrid graphics driver, but more specifically, I am thinking its more of a graphics memory issue.

    Solution to the last problem:
Do NOT enable Vaio Maximum Battery setting in power management. I am using Vaio Optimized setting instead, and there is no performance drop now under Stamina mode.
For some reason, even after having the same setting for both Vaio Maximum Battery and Vaio Optimized (under Advanced Setting), Vaio Maximum Battery setting still produces a noticeable drop in performance under Stamina mode.

    My Z doesn't sleep!
I close the lid (which I set to 'go to sleep'), and it does but wakes up immediately. With the lid closed!

guys. I found my display performance increasing dramatically when setting

'NVIDIA Control Panel >> 3D Settings >> Manage 3D Settings >> Global Settings >> Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration' to 'Single display performance mode'

How does this affect e.g. PowerPoint presentations once you run them on a video projector?

I wonder if we'll ever get a x64 graphics driver that lets us adjust brightness....

Hey guys, I have the Z555DN/B, I wanted drivers for Windows 7 Home Premium, but there are none as yet. Although it is listed on the Sony Support site, its empty when you select it. I did talk to Sony support and they advised that the engineers are working on making drivers for Windows 7. I think we have to hold back for a bit instead of rushing and getting all these wrong drivers/issues etc...

    Cheers!

    jorlinz, fatjoez
just edited my system registry to disable NVIDIA powermizer.
got a performance bump and my windows experience graphics rating jumped from 3.2 to 4.3.

    here's the edit:

note that your battery performance will likely suffer tho.

guys I have vaio z-11vrn and I've installed windows 7 ultimate.

My main issue right now is that the hot keys for changing screens (laptop,HDMI etc) does work, but it doesn't change actually the screens. I have to go through the options of the windows, not even nvidia options!

    How can these be solved?

P.s. When I have enabled clone view, I can use the hot key in order to switch back to laptop... but I can't do the opposite, to switch from laptop to hdmi... :(
