For the Google Voice snafu, I still believe AT&T deserves a kick in the shins. It isn't Apple holding back mobile broadband. It's the lazy carriers and telcos. I would drop kick them at first sight.

I wouldn't be so sure about that if you take the iPhone and the fact that the sales of all apps on that phone must go though Apple who scrape a cut off the top. Add to that the exclusive relationship with AT&T and I am hearing rumors that the Feds are taking a long hard look. Their past actions against anyone who wanted to build clone hardware or run their OS on non Apple hardware are also worthy of some scrutiny.

Then again, remember when Apple did try the third party licensing model? They suffered as a company.

I still want to drop kick all the TELCOs. How is it I still have to pay $60 a month for a friggin 6Mbps connection.

Two words-Virtual Machine. I got Mac OS X on a VM and never use it. Why would I? I've played with it, but nothing really in depth. Just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Agreed! Frankly to paraphrase an old saying "Apple is to computers, as Etch-a-Sketch is to art." :p

What is all this talk about Apple?

    They are misspelling Alizee.

On a serious note, I do often make the mistake of merging the company's reputation with my opinion of the user community, which is unwarranted. In all fairness, Apple has a great product and a focused product objective. It can be tough for the other OEMs to compete, because they are hardware companies, not software.

The user experience is the face of the hardware. Hardware is useless without a solid UI. Compare it to the direction Office 2007 went. Rather than adding new features, they stuck with a strong UI direction. People rediscovered their love for Office. It made using Office "fun" again.

But wasn't that when their OS had no real benefit if any over Windows.
What would happen if they license OSX snow leopard. I think it could work.
I, for one, would like to use Final Cut Pro easier than having to buy their god awful hardware.

I don't much care for Apple. For one the high price. Sure we can pay more for Windows OS (different versions) but we can choose to install it on a $399 laptop or a $3000 laptop.

Windows always worked fine for me and the only problems I have had is when I install the millions of user created programs out there. Everybody and their dog writes programs for windows pc's and if you are like me and want to try them all something will go wrong. Windows PC's seem to appeal to the hands on/in people.

Oh and the cleaver but misleading apple commercials don't win me over either.

According to the apple commercial as a Windows PC user if I bought a new digital camera I wouldn't be able to use it with my computer. XP pro was already several years old and I bought the latest prosumer digital camera out there. Took a bunch of pictures, plugged it in and Windows recognized it and asked me where I wanted to store the pictures and the date format and done.

Oh also Windows laptops don't come with built in cameras and you have to duct tape an external camera.

I'm sorry but apple is just one big company of disinformation and selective truth.

I'm not saying they are bad computers, I wouldn't mind having one for a doorstop or something. And what's with the bite taken out of the apple ? If I spend that much for one I want the whole uneaten apple !!

Seriously though they are not bad computers / OS. just my choice not to own one.

Well, licensing their OS caused it to be commoditized. In the case of Apple, the price was no longer determined by the supplier but by the market as a whole function. This cannibalized Apple's profit margins as OEMs consistently priced their machines lower than Apple. It was a business decision Apple was never prepared for then, and definitely not now.

Their closed garden model is the reason why they can gouge customers with such ridiculous profit margins. It reminds me of the New York City real estate market. People are willing to pay ridiculous prices simply because there isn't enough apartments. They'll settle for whatever and talk about how great of a deal their one room studio is for $1500. It's an artificial supply constraint.

This is why NYC rent has a price ceiling. Otherwise the prices would spiral upwards to unknown ranges.
