Haha yeah, I'll just wait it out until the actual 4.0 is out![]()

yes, you could be right. i think its the master password that its missing.
that means that it is not secure. unless it has been added recently.
but i really like firefox so only tried chrome briefly.
no problems with version 4 beta on windows 7 64 bit.
oh, except i cannot find the favorites. can i move it back to the left? -

@gazzacbr...did not know about the "master password". I always thought "master passwords" were part of password utilities like "easypass" etc.

Those app tabs look pretty useful!
-
I agree. The app tabs are a good idea. And they take up less space too.
-

Is it just me or does the interface look like a Google Chrome ripoff?
-
It looks more like Opera than chrome to me
-
So.... who copied who with regards to the tabs on top and the "transparent border" at the top? Did Chrome copy Opera, or was it the other way around?
-
the 'master password' and the add-on 'Password Exporter' for saving and reloading your password list makes it easy for me to use ff on a usb stick, at the office, internet cafes and at home. no need for any other apps.

I used Firefox 4 for about thirty seconds before going back to 3.6. They've made the background behind the browser fonts darker which makes them a pita to read esp when I have my screen dimmed.
-
isn't that sort of stupid? since the fonts are black, shouldnt they have made it brighter?
-
Yea I don't get it either.

Beta 5 arrives later today, Ghacks tells you what's new.
-
Have they or are there any plans for FF to isolate tabs into different processes so that if one page crashes, it doesn't take down the rest?
-
Mozilla's answer to this was out of process plug-ins, since most crashes are caused by add-ons.
-
I want the look of Firefox 3.6 back D:
-
You can make 4.0 look like 3.6 by enabling the Menu Bar, Bring Tabs to the bottom, and applying a simple custom theme from Firefox Personas.
That is how im planning on using Firefox 4.0 since the new look makes it function like Google Chrome, and I use Chrome (and IE) as well.
I hope everyone doesn't start a "Stick with 3.6" movement like they did with Windows XP. Firefox has been very customizable for a very long time. -

Yes, this is supposed to happen in the future. It is Electrolysis. -
Cool, thanks Jayayess1190! Too bad it seems a bit late...

Can you give a reason?
Ive been having some minor issues with beta 5 as well. It seems to open more slowly (possibly due to hardware acceleration) and in XP/2000 they moved the Firefox button way up on the title bar instead of next to the tab bar. I wish they gave us an easy option to change this without tweaking. -
Seems to be specific to my machine only. I'll list the issues I have had:
Opens very slowly (about 4 seconds). After the initial opening times after that are good.
Extremely slow and laggy interface for about 30 seconds after it's initial open.
Various issues with Flash videos, specifically Youtube and Youtube embeds. Pages with videos embedded in them end up with half of the video itself covered with text or images which is meant to be situated lower down.
And the worst, being something wrong with the font and text. Images are fine, but text is unusually blurry and jagged. It's REALLY distracting.
I also should mention that I had none of these problem with 4.0b4. Mozilla have really done something horrible to Beta 5.
EDIT: Seems that the blurry text problem is caused by having hardware acceleration. By disabling it, it reverts back to normal, but then you miss out on the benefits of hardware acceleration. -
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Aero + FF 4.0b5 = Disaster on 3 of my machines. Same thing happens on all three machines. One has a GMA500, one is GMA X4500MHD, and one is a Quadro NVS 160m. When FF4.0b5 is launched, the window dressing is missing, and when selecting exit from the "Firefox" menu, the window closes but the process NEVER ends until you kill it. The Beta of 4.0 feels more like pre-alpha software IMO. I've never had soo many bugs with Beta software before.
-
Yeah I noticed that firefox had blurry text all of a sudden, and yes it is due to the hardware acceleration. Then I realized that I saw this same problem somewhere before, Internet Explorer 9 Platform Previews!! It seems like Hardware acceleration is causing the text to blur for some reason. They need to fix this or have us be able to calibrate it. I am going to complain to firefox and EDIT: will complain to MS on their feedback pages.
-
You can disable Text Acceleration. And as far as other issues that people have been having, Firefox 4 Beta 4 was buggy as heck on my parents' computer for me with slow page loading and a really long start up time until I updated my graphics drivers. Then everything was perfect. Not saying that would solve your guys' problems, but maybe it's worth a try.
-
This hardware acceleration that is a part of the latest beta....is it turned on by default? Or do I need to do something to see the effects it could/will have on my notebook PC?
Lastly has anyone seen any dramatic improvements in performance with Firefox 4? -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Depends on how your computer is configured. You can tell by the fonts being blurry. If it is not on, the option is in the menu:Attached Files:
-
-
Hmm.... hardware acceleration is on (at least the box is ticked) on my laptop - but I don't get blurry fonts.
But maybe my Intel X3100 isn't supported and hence the tick is ignored... -

Unplanned Beta 6 Released, the real Beta 6 is being pushed back to Beta 7.
-
Why so fast
thanks
-
using ff4 now
and found out & using application tabs, & add-ons: FlashGot, Speeddial & Showcase
like them so far
but to my surprise, I don't know why the [+] tab for new tab is missing in my place (win XP)
-
Find the new tab icon thats in "customize" or already on your toolbar and drag it to the area next to your tabs to get that [+] button back. FF 4.0 only lets you have one "new tab" button at a time.
