I wonder if the builtin vcard of the i3 is compatible with ff's hw acceleration?

How can I save and restore the bookmarks with 4.b7?
With 3.6.12 there was an option in the Bookmarks menu.
The start of 4.b7 takes 5 secs, starting 3.6.12 lasts 2 secs.
The start of 4.b7 has to be improved!
Times were measured with a SSD.

I agree - startup time is really not great... heck... IE9 tells you which add-ons slow it down....

In the end it's a small price to pay for Adblock Plus though. (Using Firefox that is, and I will not use Google Software)

I finally saw a friend of mine running firefox 4 beta yesterday, and he had many good things to say about it - only thing he mentioned he did not like was the different way (interface?) 4 handled add-ons....

Seems like theyre moving faster with these betas. I swear i just updated to Beta 10 like a week ago. Is there a changelog for updates?

Edit: Woah, just kidding. Totally forgot about the "Whats New" window that opens up. plus it looks like Beta 10 came out like a month ago. I think I'm losing it.

Using Minefield and it's pretty awesome. Got the Adobe Flash x64 preview running on it as well and 64bit java. My university website was a noticeably slow loader but now it appears instantly. With regards to other websites I can't really tell any difference :)

Echoed and concurred. Handing add-ons in a pop-up window was much more convenient.

It now loads everything in a new tab and it all feels clunky. :/

Well for myself it is not a problem since I use very few of them ... although various apps one uses "auto-install" add-ons and such. Just will have to see! :)

^^ More specifically, in Tool -> Options -> General you will find the startup settings for Firefox. I would recommend, though, Tab Mix Plus as an excellent tab/session manager plugin for Firefox...

Reinstall Firefox? -> Although changing it and going back should do the trick.. I suspect you changed it, restarted and changed it back?

I think i have found the reason for my problem, it seems that if i am downloading software with firefox download manger, and i close firefox it remembers my last page i viewed, when i re-open firefox.

God damn how i HATE firefox 4. The hardware acceleration used too much of my CPU that the fan started go more than usual. So I disabled the hardware acceleration which leads me to question if there is any other benefit I have from it now...And I didn`t like the design of the browser. Tabs on top, the buttons all screwed up, the "tools" "file" "options" etc on top is gone. Yuck, I think I might go back to 3.6

Rather than moving to 3.6 why not simply move to another browser?

Right-click on one of the icons and untick "tabs on top"
Firefox 4 is better/faster than 3.6 with or without HA.
Download a theme that you like then, there's about 20,000.
Click on alt on your kb and the menu bar will show up or right click on one of the icons and click on menu bar.

Think that covers up all your issues.

Basically, all of your issues are fixed if you spend a bit of time customizing it how you want.

Oh thanks. :) But still after putting the tabs under, it isn`t as nice as 3.6. 3.6 looks nicer imo. And I don`t wanna press Alt to see the menu bar. Ok maybe I should try to find a theme. Or download 3.6. LOL. Haven`t noticed any difference in the speed though. Are you shure it is faster than 3.6 without Hardware acc?

@Hungry: What browser? Chrome is out of the question though. Hate that look too

    Opera? IE9?

If UI is what's important just stick to firefox and customize it. You can make it look however you like.

Hardware acceleration does not use your CPU :)

If anything it uses your GPU - provided it is supported in the first place.

Like I said, you don't have to click alt. Just right click on one of the menu buttons and choose menu. It will always show. And I'm sure there's abt 200 firefox 3 themes out there...

Oh ok. :) Then it is firefox 4 itself that does it because I have more CPU activity than the previous version. I thought that hardware acc fixed it. Anyhow it doesn`t matter if it is the CPU or GPU since my fan is going a lot more now than on 3.6. Which is why I`m going to change back although people here say that I can change the look of the browser. I didn`t like it.

EDIT: Ah using my trustworthy 3.6 now. How I missed you old pal. :p

    ---> Why am I getting 20+ % CPU activity ???

this is FF v4.0.1 with some 12 open tabs. It was on both of my cores the other day, but lately is has been on one core only, and this is on my T9500 running at 2.6GHz. This makes my CPU not going to idle, thus keeps higher temp/power usage.

all goes to the plugin-container, and two of my add-ons were not compatible with the update, thus are not in use.

before the update I was having the same tabs open and only 1 to 2% activity max.

The flash plugin does CPU and 20% CPU usage (with 12 tabs open) seems to be normal.

same setup with more add-ons on the older version yields ~2% CPU usage, so it's not normal.
