It's now 1143: PST and it's not released, or at least the links aren't working.

How good can Google Chrome be if the link to download/install it isnt working? :D

It will be hard to beat FF3...especially considering all the addons out for it.

my two cents about this new Google Browser.

OK I cant see anyone matching Firefox for add-onns and security as I and other people love it and have no problems. And if they do its just copying a rival program.

I have tried other browsers as well but none come close to Firefox, they really hit the nail on the head with FF.

It was made by normal people who do normal surfing and wanted something that everyone wanted, and they did a cracking job.

I think Google is another microsoft company trying to cash in on a industry that is mainly Firefox.

Have you heard of the saying if it aint broke dont fix it.

I cant see Google bringing anything new to the table, and if they do will it make us sit back and say WOW. uhmmmm only time will tell.

Oh P.s. did anyone catch the promo cartoon comic thing that Google did to promote the browser? I lost intrest at page 3..

Exactly on time :). Seems my sources were correct, thanks for the link, I was wondering if it'd be the same one as the one that was up earlier.

    Installing it right now.

Yeah it was the same link, the Google Gears link, both links are from Google, but the other one seems to work better and nicer.

Yeah, the DL link on the first post doesn't work. The other one above did. I'm using it right now to type this post. I liked how I could convert all my FF settings, pw and bookmarks. I hate looking at ads though. AdBlockPlus please for Chrome. ;)
The UI is simple and nice just like all Google products.

Downloaded and running, feels alot 'lighter' then FF3 and just plain behaves differently. The middle mouse button no long sets a scroll compass for fast scrolling, the options are very limited and no way to change the theme which by default clashed violently with my Zune theme (where is my black).

All and all, I like the feel. Wonder if it supports aero on Vista, that might look sorta sweet?

I'm also writing from Chrome, it seems nice but it lacks some serious tweaking necessities. For one I wish I could remove the blue bar on top.

Also, scripts don't seem to work for every page, for example I don't have access to "Quick Links" on this forum (vital for me when browsing subscribed threads), but it works on another VB forum I frequent.

I also want to remove the icons by the bookmarks, they take up way too much space.

I need a gmail notifier for this browser also, I more or less thought that'd be built in.

I'm hoping future versions will have more built in tweaking available, I don't want to rely on add-ons slowing down my browser just in order to hide the bookmark icons.

I also just noticed I cant scroll by clicking the mouse wheel, that's VITAL, especially for viewing images that are larger than my screen. Also the VB shortcut ctrl-b will hide/show your bookmarks toolbar, the bold shortcut doesn't work.

At the moment it seems I cant change the default scroll lines when using the scroll wheel, it scrolls way too fast for me. Maybe there's an .ini file or something somewhere, gonna check the install folder.

Going back to FF for now, more tweaking options, gmail notifier, adblock and imagebot will make me come back here again.

I downloaded it too. It feels nice and has a light interface which is good and I like the new idea to the address bar. But overall I think Firefox is the way to go.

Well.. it does seem to be using a bit more memory than Firefox. But google already explained why this is.. because of the separate processes for each tab and whatnot.

Scrolling is too fast on my touchpad.

I love that you can rip tabs off the tab bar and into a new window.. and then back again!

    It seems snappier than Firefox.

Wow its fast at downloading pages. I'll have to run through a series of tests to confirm whether Chrome will be my browser of choice. Currently Firefox 3 is #1, closely followed by IE7, then by Safari, and now in 4th place is Chrome.

Just installed it on a XP box, very simple interface. It's a good start from Google I think, but not at FF's level, yet. There aren't much settings to be customized, I can't find where you can set the cache size? I believe it's partly using IE's settings, cause when you click on Change proxy settings and Manage certificates, it will open IE's options.

w00t, Chrome blocks pop-ups perfectly! On some sites pop ups still get through the blockers, but chrome just stops 'em dead.

EDIT I love the way Chrome manages the pop-ups! Try it yourself, tip look at the bottom of your window and click on the message.

****! Chrome is FAST! Looks odd though, but then again I am inclined to favor minimalistic Opera Native skins. The Tabs above the address bar looks odd but then again, it is very new to me(for all of us!). Gmail works fine. I wish I could change the blue color on the top, but I guess things will change in a few days or so. Hmmm...not bad at all!

Still testing it around...with 5 tabs open its chewing around 5.6K RAM. Not bad. If this gets a little bit of polish which I bet will happen very quickly, I will be forced to choose between this and Opera - though I still think Opera will remain my first love - in a manner of speaking, that is!

Edit: Pop-ups are blocked too! Hmmm...not bad...now how to change the skin? OK...a qick question to all those who have tried it already...note the first word of this post....****! WHat I wrote was "D" + "A" + "M" + "N"...take out the quotes and the + signs. The result is what you see above...how did this happen?

Even though I got a PC dont want Bill gates Crap either.

Thats why I use FF, I dont use Apple as too expensive for what it is.

So most of my programs are anti MS, I dont even want the tool bar or the logo.

Its a mass corp that just wants money and does not care about peoples needs like FF does.

If apple came down to Pc prices I would prob. buy but until then im stuck with cheap and chearful PC.

Remember when gatesy was in his garage making the First usable PC he was just a normal guy that wanted to make the world a better place but then all of a sudden...................................BANG WE WILL GIVE YOU A BILLION DOLLARS.............................. and then his morals went out the window(s)

You can check out the comic explaining some of the features in Chrome:

The interface is very minimalist! It's the same size as when other browsers are in Full-Screen mode!

That would have been handy. But due to it being open source, one would think developers will be releasing versions of it with add-ons like that soon.

Until they add an adblocking feature to it I won't be using and since Google controls a whole bunch of on-line ads I don't think they will do that, until then, FF3 all the way.

Although I did download and install it just for kicks.

    I like it so far.
    What I don't like.

    1) Bookmarks showing up in URL bar. If I want to see my bookmarks I will go look in them, I don't want them in my URL bar.

    2) Can't clear private data on browser exit. I know they have the incognito or whatever, but I want to keep the URLs while the browser is open for autocomplete. As far as I can tell you have to manually clear private data.

Very true! And based on that it is good.

But then I went (back) to Opera and the difference is stark though its been in development for the longest of time. Opera feels slick, but comparatively, it is slower than Chrome.

Chrome saves p-words - but I think it is temperamental - on some sites it did on others it did not! Maybe this will get cleared up in the next few days.

But I still think it will take a lot more for me to move out of Opera.

lol, does not clear private data and that can get embarrassing if you open a new tab and you had been browsing some private info. It displays your browser history with thumbnails of the website you were at when you open a new tab. There is a reason I got rid of Recently Documents in Windows first thing.

Has anyone noticed the amount of memory Chrome takes vs firefox?

I've tried opening 6 webpages in different tabs in both browsers:
    Chrome: 150MB
    FF3: 105MB

However, IMO Chrome is a bit faster.

There is the incognito browsing, which I"d guess is similar to IE's.
But I like to keep my URLs in my search bar until I close my browser.
    Incognito basically doesn't store anything.
