I always need to stay on the crux of technology for my job/carrier so i will not ignore win 7 but learn every in and out about the os. however, after using it for a few days here, im finding myself back with vista. i dunno why!

It's been a year with Vista for me and despite the early growing pains I've never looked back.
Unless there's some compelling reason to 'upgrade' to Windows 7 when it is officially released (I don't beta test for free) I'll stick with Vista. Basically, when it comes to Vista there are those users who 'get' it and those who don't. -
Now that Windows 7 has hit RC, does everyone still feel it's worth the upgrade from Vista?
For me, I still see Windows 7 as a polished Vista, and Vista has been flawless for me, so I have no reason to upgrade -

While 7 does bring some nice new little bits along with its fixes. Unless your having problems I dont think its worth the money. UAC haters who wish to keep the security of UAC will wish for 7's adjustability rather then vistas simply protected by virtualized run environment or off and rock it xp security style.
The upgrade is alot of money for someone who isnt having actual issues. If your in the market for a new computer I would just wait until its out. I was intending to but went for what was avaliable. -
I notice most people with Vista 64 bit are the ones that have smooth sailing with the OS. That says a lot about the technology doesn't it.
Everything (except video capturing) works for me in Vista 64, no need for me to upgrade until I am certain everything I use can be used in Windows 7 and then I will consider it. Mainly because I love Aero Peek....if I can get that feature for Vista, I'll stay with Vista but that is ONE feature that I have used and has saved me a lot of time and I miss from Windows 7. -

Never thought about the 32 bit users having more trouble
Anyways never used the aero peek bu check this out? - http://www.ghacks.net/2009/01/04/aero-peek-for-xp-and-vista/ -
Nice but not neccessarily how I'd use it.
I use it in Windows 7 by hovering over a document in the background of my active program and then I'm allowed to see what that document contains without having to alt tab or click on it and switch windows.
This is extremely time saving as if I were doing an illustration or edit for a client I could easily use this feature to look at their notes and go right back to editing with no need to come out of my active program at all. -
I am *ignoring* for now..When I get my new lappy..I will prolly try it out!

Perfectly happy with Vista. I use Ubuntu for some work related stuff, but since SP1, I never had a problem with Vista.
Well, except 64bit unsigned drivers; but there are work arounds for that - I imagine that particular issue is not going to go away for w7.
Like the op, there are no benefits from w7 that I have so far heard of, that I can not live without. Eventually I have no doubt I will upgrade; but I am quite a stickler for change for the sake of it. I stayed on DOS for years, I didn't bother with Windows 95 until practically the last moment. The jump from XP was rather faster; but I ran dual boot on that for some time too.
My motto, if it aint broke, and the bonus isn't large, then why try to fix it? -
I will "ignore" it until I know that the games that I do play will be compatible with Windows 7. Right now, many of them are not... I think all of the ones I do play are not at all.
[One of my friends had(s) a stupid idea.... he has Ubuntu on a laptop that was given to him... and he wanted to virtualize Windows 7 to virtualize Windows XP to play only one game. The laptop's not that powerful and has been abused by the previous owner, so I think it'll panic on him before he tries. That, and I told him... just virtualize XP instead? He has some kind of notion that his plan will work well... ] -

^^ Ubtuntu + Virtual Box + XP = Win. Not sure about gaming on it though I know recent versions started allowing for passthrough ont he 3d acceleration.
Every game I play works on Vista havent tested any on 7. -
Yeahhhhhhhhhh I know. He's only done Virtual Box with XP. But for some reason, he wants to Virtualbox Windows 7, then run Virtualization on that for Windows XP to play a newer free mmo game. I don't know if he's tried it, but I seriously don't think it will/would work at all.
I have read on a few forums for the various games that Windows 7 (tested by people on the forums) will not launch many of the game programs at all. So I'm going to wait and see if they fix that. Half of what I do is play video games on computers. -

The thing that gets me is that the jump from XP to Vista had clear benefits. Much improved security being the one I was interested in. I must have been one of the few that actually liked UAC.
The jump from Vista to Windows 7 doesn't give you anything like that? So for me, i'm happy with Vista -
-
Of course, some of them I have to kinda force and play around with the settings with to get it to work, but it isn't that much work.
For now though, Windows 7 doesn't support many of the games (like, 0% chance of running the programs), so I'll be holding off until it does have proper compatibility. -
Vista has been nothing but good to me, and apparently windows 7 is vista with some nice improvements(haven't tested it out yet due to lack of time). I'm definitely not hurting to get rid of vista so Ill upgrade if I find something that I wont be able to live without, otherwise vista business will remain my OS.
-
I'll install it on my Tablet PC considering all the improvements to handwriting recognition and the increased Tablet support.
-
I will upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as it is released. I love the current RC1 Build 7100, but I am not to keen on keeping an RC OS on my system.
-
-
I plan on dumping Vista and XP all together and using Win 7 on my notebook and my desktop. I'm very impressed with Win 7 and Home Group Networking between both PC's is the super easy compared to doing so with XP and Vista.
-
I might. I plan on getting a laptop next year, in early winter. If Windows 7 can impress me more than the RC is currently ( there are a few things I like, but all the hype, was just hype to me, im still far from impressed after about 2 weeks of using 7 ), and I can get free with my MSDN subscription, then yes. Otherwise, I might just stick with Vista.

Already steeped in all things W7.

Getting in late here, and definitely respecting others opinions, but sorry, for me this thread is based on an EXTREMELY flawed argument. And this is beyond a matter of opinion. Windows Vista has hurt Microsoft, has promoted not only, it's own predecessor XP (which as of April still has over 60% worldwide market share), but it has increased the market share of every other OS. I'm glad for the originator of this thread that Vista was a wonderful experience for him. That's genuinely great for him, but for the majority windows 7 is a possible redemption for Microsoft.

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/os-...&qpdt=1&qpct=4&qptimeframe=M&qpsp=101&qpnp=25
It shows that Windows market share fell from 93.28% in June 2007 to 87.75% in June 2009. A drop of roughly 5.5% The big gainer was Apple who picked up 3.8%. Linux picked up about .5%, and the rest was split among various mobile platforms.
Now, this study is not based on sales, but rather monitoring web sites and recording what OS is being used by the visitor. From that perspective it might actually inflate the Apple numbers since there are likely to be a higher percentage of Windows desktops churning away in grandma's living room that aren't active on the net than there are macbooks. The potential for missed Windows machines seems higher.
That said, there has been a clear decrease in Microsoft's share over the life of Vista. Whether this is directly attributable to Vista is not necessarily a given. It's during this time frame that Apple released those cool unibody macbooks and really started hitting hard on the advertising. The iPhone also created great buzz around Apple in general which probably helped their hardware sales overall.
So yeah, I think MS too a reputation hit (undeserved IMHO) with Vista, but I don't think that Vista alone accounts for the shift in market share. Nor do I think the Windows 7 can reverse those numbers, regardless of how good it is. I just think there has been a market shift among a certain demographic and user type. -
Nice, I do agree apple was absolutely the gainer with microsofts fumbling. I also agree they may redeem themselves among loyal pc / business users, but they will be hard pressed to gain back those who have already turned to Mac/ Ubuntu.
How many Vista users plan to ignore Windows 7?
