A poll on Vista's stability.
Such as program compatibility errors, suddenly rebooting, BSOD, RSOD, anything that disrupt your interaction with Vista!![]()
-
I haven't had an error yet. So I can't vote I guess.
-
Same with me, I ran Vista Enterprise Edition for 3 months and only had 1 BSOD, now I upgraded to Ultimate and have had 0.
-
I added no errors to the poll, and voted on no errors as that's my average! I get a blue screen every 6 months or so I guess, though I can't remember the last time I got one so maybe over a year.

I have been using Ultimate since it came out, and I have not seen any errors.
Very pleased with the operating system.
-
Good grief, is Vista really that bad?!
-
Please define Vista errors/crashes. I've had programs crash because they weren't Vista ready, and Vista simply pops up that screen about what to do next (close it, wait, etc.). I have not had a BSOD.
-
the poll as it stands, is a bit misleading
cheers ... -
Mine bluescreened one time and that's about it.
-
I have been using windows vista home premium for a month now (before that RC2) and i rarely get any error. Though sometimes i run into some compatibility problems
. Some of them have got sorted out already.

what about the "No Errors" option???
i have also have not had any errors (aside from the currently common incompatible software/applications) and after turning off a few of the more "excessive" security features. -
the only crashes i get are in IE7 when i use this website.
It happened when i was using winXP also though. I think its adobe shockwave that is creating the crashes. -
I've had to reset the desktop with the power button 3 times because it was compleltly unresponsive.
-
None so far.
That's not to say i don't anticipate it, i haven't owned a computer that hasn't gone unresponsive, given me an error, BSOD'ed, crashed, ect. -
I'd had a few bugs...but I was able to track them down to the software itself and not Vista. FF was problematic at first, but fixed it within a day...and with UAC turned off. It initially didn't play DVDs right, but that was my mistake as well.
-
vista hangs when trying to shut down the laptop so i have to hold the power button. happens a couple times a day...any solutions for that?
no BSOD so far. been using for 1 month -
It was stable enough when I used it, but I had daily compatibility issues, so I'm voting 2.
-
-
None. Vista Home Premium is as stable for me as XP Professional SP2 is, and more stable then my XP SP2 Media Center Edition. I use Photoshop CS2, GIMP2, heavy Digital Video Encoders like CCE-SP and ProCoder (as well as NERO, but I think CCE-SP is more of a hog), and a few other pretty intense programs.
No issues. I am pleased. It seems all my concerns over "the big bad Vista" have proven to be crap. I am pleased with this OS. -
I agree. There seems to be alot of Vista horror stories out there everywhere. Just the natural adoption process. I had issues at first but I was breaking it on purpose to see what it can and cannot do. Learned the in's and out's and then reformatted. Ha... I think there is a lot of extras in Vista that are great. Just took a minute to get used to. Peace
-
It should be on a weekly basis, not per day. If it's crashing everyday then we are back in the days of Windows 95/98.
-
Hey, Windows 98 didn't crash as often as Vista! Leave it alone!
-
Windows 98 was VERY stable for me. As long as I didn't have to much on it.
Windows ME a differ story -
more blue screen errors than anything. the biggest problem ive had with it is i put my laptop in hibernate mode and it turned off but when i got home from work the hdd ligh was flashing and when i opened it up and hit the power button it told me windows did not shutdown properly. not sure why it did that, i was just glad i didnt put it in my case like i usually do because it ran for who knows how long when i thought it was off. not sure if this was vista or what would cause this. but overall im please with vista other than the slow boots and shutdowns.
-
No BSODs so far... actually Vista itself hasn't crashed for me, but the programs I run on it sure have.
Matt -
Same as Matt. Programs are more likely to crash rather than the Vista OS itself.
-
I do dislike how slow Vista is though... is seems to take forever going into standby mode. Simply running Firefox takes forever sometimes... it seems I deeply under-estimated the amount of RAM Vista consumes... 1.5GB just doesn't cut it. They're going to need to make some major memory management fixes in SP1 to get businesses to even recognize Vista's existence. I'm running Vista Business, by the way. I did notice that my battery life improved by 15-20 minutes... odd, huh?
Matt -
Just about every time I use Office 2007, when I close it I get a message that says "Word/Excel/Powerpoint/etc has stopped working..." and then the program tries to restart. This has also happened with a handful of other programs and is pretty annoying.
-
Wow... that's disappointing... considering both products are developed by the same company...
-
i got a BSOD last week after using for 1.5 months.. so m going for a no error option.. m not including compatibility issues as errors.. dats part of any OS at the start of its life cycle.. so letting vista off on that..

U know, I used to have Window 98 and I remember the days where the blue screen of death occurred at least twice a day. Boy, the good old days... Anyways, I really don't see why people are complaining about Vista. I mean, I had some problem installing it, but once it was up and running, everything was fine. I don't even remember my system crashing or anything. So yeah, u people should lay off Vista for a while. I mean, there's no bug with it. It's a great OS. And I guess u should give it a chance before u bad mouth it.

-
and i frankly dont believe there can be 5 or more errors for anyone per day.. if thats the case, either they have sc***ed up their OS somehow or they are counting the compatibility issues as OS errors/crashes.. which, again, shouldnt be treated as a vista error/crash..
-
What about explorer.exe crashes? That was what I had the most trouble with.
-
dat, i wud say, def is an OS prob.. (anyways, urs is a diff case.. i had followed ur 'one month vista challenge' thread diligently..
)

Well, some people have genuinely tried it, and they either encounter alot of problems, or they encounter none. But up to now i'm sticking to the SP1 mantra and by then you can see all the bad things about Vista disappear -
Who needs Vista when I have XP.
-
@PuppetMaster2501:
no need for an apology, my friend..
@system64:
i will say SP1 is just an icing on the cake for me.. -
I have no errors at all since the first day of installation of Vista Business 32 bit. The key is the driver. DOnt expect your device will be working out of the box without additional driver. So far, Vista is very stable and fast.
Most of my colleagues who complain that they have errors in Vista is turned out to use RC version or pirated version. Most of them are Linux user. They just try the "free thing" without any willingness to pay but complain the loudest. -
Surprisingly, Vista hasn't crashed or gave me any errors. I am impressed.
-
Add one more that is happy but also ho-hum with vista.
I was searching for that notebook with XP, hoping to get one of the "last ones". I'm glad I didn't.
I've tweaked vista premium so much, that most think I'm running XP with a skin.
There are a few annonyances that are easy to sidestep and all the software I'm using(art, film, sound, web design) function properly for me. I have some programs, not designed for vista, that run fine. An error when closing one application, but nothing that makes me rush back to xp.
I had an issue with my browser of choice, but it was easily fixed, once I understood how vista handles virtualization/user accounts/uac/etc.
The ho-hum...besides the eye candy and some new features, I'm not "wow'd" and I'm not dissapointed. I can use W2000, xp, or vista with few complaints. This is not to condemn any other OS, JMHO on vista in the time of been using it. -
Not one error since I installed it

Exactly with my experience. So far, the transition is much easier from XP to Vista than from 98 to XP. I remember much of the headache when trying to run XP to my desktop from win 98.
-
IMHO, Vista is a better OS than XP (not considering SP1 and SP2!) -
I have no idea what all the problems are about. I have been running Vista for weeks now with very little problems other than 3 party problems. I personally like it. People need to stop complaining or use another OS.
-
I had to re-image my drive to solve the problem. I've got a few play back issues with WMP 11 and Vista as well. Not to mention that the Vista-installed printer driver (it came with the OS and it recognized my printer and installed right away) has been very problematic.
Oh, and did I mention that I'm a electrical engineering student with a focus in computers and software...who has almost two years of working experience with an R&D department for a major company? Yea...I'm not an idiot, and yea I have Vista issues. -
-
Compared to many posts I have seen over the years on NBR, mine is pretty minimal.
All I am saying is that if you don't like it, stick with what you do until you are ready to use Vista without endless comments complaining. XP was just the same when it first came out.
I will say this thread had more specific implications such as errors and how many instead of just complaining. We can now see how many errors people are getting. Great. Hopefully its helpful to someone.
I am sorry for the issue with your Vista copy. That would suck to deal with. You obviously were cost a lot of time because of Vista. Many people are complaining verses asking help for with problems.
So if my post got to you in the height of your Vista anger, then sorry for that. For the majority of general vista "sucks" complaints; switch or ask for help with your problem, don't just gripe.
How many Windows Vista errors/crashes you get per day?
