    51 or more [53 exactly]. But that's because I have Flyakite installed :D My laptop starts up wayyyy faster now, compared to when I had Avast! installed [currently using Avira Antivir]. ObjectDock takes the longest time to load when I do a 'fresh' boot [it's set to automatically start when I boot].

    I got my processes down to 33 after editing Services and the registry. That's running Vista Ultimate with SP1.
    So I guess mine is 40 or less.

    Clean Install of Vista Home Premium -
    Got 66 processes running at startup =(

    This is after I've installed all the drivers again, so I think I just did a clean install for no reason!?

    Think it was like 80 before?
    Does it matter how many processes are running though?

    It says Physical Memory: 50% and CPU Usage: (Jumps between) 6-20%.

    Does this need to be improved?
    Will it offer me better performace?

    Will I see an increase in performace on a x64 bit OS?

    Thanks =)

    No the amount of process running doesn't matter, but having more usually means more resources being used. You might see a performance increase when using a x64 OS depending on your hardware.

    Please see post #72 and #89 in this thread, then stop counting your processes.

    Thanks Orev and Calvin!

    I have a HP HDX9250EA, do you know whether I would see much of an increase?

    Can I use my product key for Home Premium x86 for Home Premium x64?

    Thanks =)

    Would the backup activation in your tutorial work this way as well?

    Also, how can I download the Vista Home Premium x64 disk?

    Yes, ABR will work for this. To get the 64-bit disc, please see this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=240320

    Still shouldnt be that high mate.

    Look under the Processes tab and see whats using most of it.

    Might be a bug in one of your software.

    Post back =)

    64-bit does not really give any performance increase, unless you have 4GB of RAM and are currently running into limits on what you can do because of the 3GB barrier.

    Thanks Orev,

    I might give it a try as I have 4GB and do a lot of photo/video editing.

    I have around 44 processes running at startup. I didn't know if I should turn off Acronis True Image at startup or not. What would be considered too many?
