Will an engineering sample (ES) Core2Duo (T series) which has an unlocked multiplier be able to be clocked above the normal additional 200 MHz? For example, will an unlocked T7700 which is 2.4 GHz nominally, or 12x, be able to be clocked to say 14x by TS, or is the max OC always just 1x higher? Thanks,

    Thanks for the insight.
Must have taken some real brain power to find out how to do this.

just can't seem to get it. I had been using throttlestop a little before I saw this thread.

Inspiron 1545 with a T9400. I went into the bios and disabled speed step. Go back into throttlestop, but the multiplier wont go higher than the stock 10 that I had before.

(already done the 100% minimum processor state)

Any ideas? I followed the instructions to the best of my understanding, but no go

    A T9400 runs at 2.53Ghz (x9.5) or 2.66Ghz (x10) single-IDA. When you disable speedstep then set Throttlestop to run dual-IDA 2.66Ghz, representing a 133Mhz overclock over the stock 2.53Ghz.

Oops, thats what I meant. I had it at 10 once, but now I can't get it to go back.. I'm trying to set everything back to default in Throttlestop to start over, but the "defaults" button doesn't seem to do anything to the main page.

    my process:
    - disable speed step in bios
    - boot and open TS
    - set multiplier to 10 and bumped the up VID two steps (I gather this isn't necessary, and I can in fact undervolt a bit right?)
    - turned on
    - enable EIST

the Multiplier In the chart doesn't move though, it just stays at 9.5 (I assume it doesn't go down any because of the 100% min proc state), but it should move to 10 at this point shouldn't it?

I can right click and turn on Dual IDA mode, but that doesn't change anything other than it disables EIST. I can click the box to turn on EIST, but it unchecks itself.

If I turn TS on in battery mode, my multiplier drops to 6, and I can turn of TS and it'll stay at 6 (according to the chart in TS). Changing back to performance makes it go back to 9.5 (even with it set to 10). Right clicking to enable Dual IDA does nothing, enabling D-IDA in Options does nothing.. Not sure what to do any more.

Also, I don't know if it matters, but i have these two tweaks for improving ssd performance in place:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...-series-4-5-965-chipsets-stamatisx-tweak.html
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...-intel-series-4-5-965-chipsets-jjb-tweak.html

is there a way to make a custom fan profile for the cooling fan?

    Great topic!!

After i flashed the bios it worked after some experimenting with ThrottleStop!

    My laptop: Clevo RU-U T7800 2.6GHz (now 2.8GHz 14 multipliers :D )
Now i can overclock it more but than i first need the Vbios flash to stock clocks. I,am a gamer so i think it is best for me to keep it like this.

I undervolt it to 1.2500v (stock=1.3500v), not that many but at 1.2000 it gave a BSOD with orthos running after 10 minutes. I was doing some stuff on the net at the same time so maybe thats why it happend. The T7800 is not a good undervolter BTW.

It runs a bit hotter idle, normal 31 degrees and now 33 degrees.

Thanks for all the work you did on it!!

Hmm, wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Tried this with my Dell Inspiron 1720 and T9500 CPU, but couldn't get the 14x. Just stuck at a 13 multi.

I could see the Stamatisx Tweak possibly being a problem, if you look in device manager when the tweak is applied you will see yellow exclamtion marks next to the cpu, ie no driver for the cpu

Good point. I had this tweak disabled at one point but I re-did it for some reason..

I'll see if that fixes anything..
    ------
Edit: got it to work! After disabling both tweaks it worked perfectly. Don't know why I didn't disable them after I posted them here lol. +rep

Netted a 0.1 increase in WEI score for cpu amd memory, and a 23 point increase in PCMark 7. Idling at ~48C.. Bit high isn't it? I've only had this CPU for about week and I just repeated again today because I thought the temp was a bit high for having 20C ambients.. Guy I got it from gave me some stuff from Microsi (never heard of it), so I suppose I'll pick up some icd7 and see of it helps. I was in the low 30's with the T4200 and the stock dell paste.

I can't get my laptop to boot with Speedstep disabled in bios. I have a Core 2 Duo T9400 on Dell inspiron 1545. I can disable it but once it gets past starting windows it BSOD immediately. Only happens with speedstep off though.

Would you be able to elaborate on how those values would change on different CPUs? For example, I am running a Core 2 Duo 2.1Ghz, I have the bios updated, but the system still runs only up to 2.1GHz.

I am also using phc-intel to undervolt the cpu. How would that play with the extra frequency?

    .

    Something i do wrong?

    Thanks, its appreciated.

The script format changed when you copy-paste the script from the PDF file. Create the script file in cygwin terminal instead:-
    1. Copy the script from PDF file
    2. Open the Cygwin terminal & enter this command:-
      Code:
      cat > ndisasm_bat.sh

    3. Paste the script in the Cygwin terminal window
    4. Press Enter one time
    5. Press "Ctrl" + "D" buttons
    6. Set the file to executable mode:-
      Code:
      chmod +x ndisasm_bat.sh

    Thanks for your quick respond...

It worked perfect and dropped the file i need, directly in the cygwin home folder.

I'm on my way to modify that bios Eist!

    EDIT:

It won't run the script in the extracted ROM "DUMP" folder. I've got that instead:

It's like my folder is empty....

You will get that error if the DUMP folder is empty (excluding ndisasm_bat.sh file) OR the modules filename don't have .ROM/.ff/.PEI extensions. Just want to confirm, did you decompress the BIOS file using Phoenix Tool?

    I'm following the instruction well...but! :p

My folder dump is not empty, your Tip works also.

I've got only .rom in this folder

I'm using to decompress the Bios the Phoenix Tool v1.96.

Might be late for you, now...i'm not in a hurry, so i can think why it is not working...

OK, I know why it doesn't work. You need to "cd" to inside the DUMP folder. When you running the script from outside DUMP folder, you'll get error as shown:-
    [IMG]

The script will run successfully if executing it in DUMP folder as shown:-

THANK YOU Very much Kizwan! The cygwin command line worked perfect.

    Great job! ;)

Unfortunately the RESULTS.TXT "--> Checking MSR register for EIST: mov ecx,0x1A0" gave me no output for the SLIC header found in the Phoenix tool SLIC.LOG.

    Command line 8 (ndisasm -a -p intel -b 64 $f > $DIS) & Line 11 (ndisasm -a -p intel -b 16 $f > $DIS16) in "ndisasm_bat.sh" could not be found at all. :(

Or might have to do that on a linux system.
Followed strictly the tutorial but it is not working as you do....see screenshot:

    Thanks for your wonderful project.
    I tried Throttletop 3.0 / 4.0 in my Thinkpad (Windows 7 and Windows XP),but I cannot pull up to 11.5x.CPU is T8100.
I can easily change to 10.5,10 or lower freely.

    It's the unlocked T61 BIOS.
I tried to disable/enable EIST in BIOS,still cannot pull up to 11.5

Then,I setup one core operation in BIOS and monitor it in HWINFO32,the CPU can work at 11.5x in single core.

How should I do to pull up to 11.5x?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I've been hitting my head against the wall trying to mod my T500 Bios and can't seem to understand. Could anyone help me?
    The bios is here http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6fuj45u6.exe

I went through pages and pages of this thread, I found my bios is similar to the Y450 that was modded here but I really can't figure it out.
I went through the F7731B4C-58A2-4DF4-8980-5645D39ECE58.DASM file but can't find the offset in the .ff file after.

This is the results I got.

Dell systems usually already have a EIST/Speedstep bios option. Just disable that to allow dual-IDA mode to work with an IDA-capable CPU.

No,in my case, when EIST is enabled in the BIOS,I can check/uncheck the "Disable Turbo" option, but when EIST is disabled,"Disable Turbo"is always checked and I can't uncheck it.My CPU supports IDA,so I'm thinking it is the BIOS that is stopping it from working.

Thank you kizwan for the guide, very detailed.

Thank you unclewebb for throttlestop, especially the PROCHOT unlock. For the longest time my laptop would stutter even with a cooled GPU, now I just unlock, no more stuttering in anything! Wonderful.

Sincerely thank you both, I'm really ecstatic if you can't tell. Hope you two have a wonderful day.

    Hi,
Great thread Kizwan, I have a Fujitsu Amilo pi 2530 and I need to unlock the EIST Dual IDA feature.I tried following the 1.1a.pdf instruction and I got as far as running the script on my BIOS and I checked out the Results.Text file and it had a few entries in it.I can't really understand what we are supposed to do next after that. Please someone give me some guidelines since i'm a noob at this or a link to a modded amilo 2530 BIOS ver 1.15 would be great as well. Thanks.

    Hi,
Great post Kizwan. I have an Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 2530 Bios ver 1.15 and I was checking out your tutorial for EIST Unlocked 1.1a.pdf. I got to the part after running the script and checked out Results.txt file it had a few entries, you can see it below:

Download RESULTS.TXT from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

What am I supposed to do with the results in the Results.Txt file. The 1.1a.pdf is not very clear on this as it is not for complete noobs.
Anyone know what to do after running the script please help me out or give me a link to an EIST unlocked modded Amilo 2530 Bios ver 1.15, that would be awesome.

    My BIOS : PHOENIX 1.15
    BIOS Windows Flash () - Winflash_AMILO Pi2530
    Technical Support pages from Fujitsu

    Thanks in advance.

Just did this on my Studio XPS 1640's P8600. Works like a charm... feels a smidge zippier now, but maybe I'm just imagining things.

Well, I'll assume you also have a SXPS 1640 on the A15 BIOS. If you don't have the A15 BIOS you may want to download it from Dell's site and flash it. Anyways, after that restart your computer. When the Dell logo appears hit F2 to enter the BIOS. Disable EIST (Intel SpeedStep Technology). Save changes, and reboot in windows. Run ThrottleStop, but don't touch anything yet. I also run CPU-Z to see what the CPU is reporting and run a Prime95 stress test to make sure I get things to be stable. Be sure you look up what the operating voltages are for your processor too (P8600 is 1.025v). After you have the stress test running, go back to SpeedStep and ramp up the voltage to the max value you looked up. Check SET MULTIPLIER (should be at 6, default low), and be sure that EIST is UNCHECKED. Click on TURN ON. NOW check EIST. Adjust the multiplier as high as it will go (should allow you to go all the way up to the stock multiplier... ie- 9 on my P8600). UNCHECK EIST and UNCHECK SET MULTIPLIER and click TURN OFF. Keep an eye on your core temps. Keep an eye on CPU-Z as well. Close out of SpeedStep and restart it. Check set multiplier (EIST unchecked), and TURN ON. Check EIST. Now you want to roll back the voltage until the system becomes unstable (BSOD). Be sure you pay attention to what your settings are. When it crashes, reboot and set the voltage a little higher than it was was before it crashed. Easy.

I dont have dell and i cant update bios on mac ;)
    But thnx for explanation
What I cant do is to go to BIOS unfortunately but I can do it via windows 7
I have core 2 duo t7700 and when i open thtottle stop EIST is grayed out but enabled by default.
What I need is to know what value of voltage i need to set when increasing multiplier
So if multiplier is on max then woltage must be on max
Gow do i know max voltage fotr t7700?

Thank you Kizwan for your guide on disabling EIST but unfortunately I still can't can't understand the steps after the Results.txt is populated and i'm afraid to force things.

Are there any previously modded Fujitsu Siemens Amilo pi 2530 Bioses available ? since its an old machine someone must have already got it working.
