IE8 has been pretty good once some of the initial bugs were ironed out. Looking forward to the FR tomorrow. :)

Thanks for the heads up - just curious, will it show up in Windows update or not?
It may even manage to make me move away from Opera... Opera has some annoying bugs - if its faster than IE7...

(IE8 Beta on my old Medion was a mess... for various reasons...)

I found IE8 RC worked well with the accelerators off, I really had no use for them, other words, I will do the upgrade.

Hmm this will be interesting. IE8 has been getting some pretty good reviews.

I try my hardest to use as few Microsoft products as possible (except Windows and Word), but hey I may have to take a look if it's as fast as people are claiming.

So...how will this work? If I don't wait for IE8 via Win Updates, and go to the/ a download link, I will end up having IE7 AND IE8? And via WIn Updates, will it overwrite IE7? Or, will it again install parallel to IE7?

    Thanks

well, if if addresses the flash page issue, it is worth the time and MBs...I don't even use IE7 for browsing anymore even though I actually prefer it because I am sick of the thing crashing every third page I visit.

When I read the report on Engadget...it said Opera wasn't included... In addition, the only browser so far unhacked I think remains Chrome.

Chrome seems like a great big trojan horse of a browser anyway. I'm not interested in using software made and distributed by the most prolific advertising company in the history of the internet (Google).

IE8 looks promising though, I'll be trying it out in about half an hour assuming they stick to that release date/time. I remember being told it would be out on December 31 as well.

It's already addressed by Adobe. Download the latest flash player. IE7 no longer crashes with Flash filled web pages.

Searched around and apparently the 64 DL is not available, even though it showed in Search results...W/E, MS, I'll stick with Chrome I guess...

    Edit: I'm a moron...lol...found it...

No, it's because not enough folks use it to make it much of a target for hackers.

Well...well...this is my assessment after about 90 minutes of using IE8.

Speed: So-So...I am comparing with Opera and Opera seems to be snappier
Interface: Seems a little clunky, but then I have a minimalistic design with Opera and frankly, it is a bit more logical in Opera
Peeves: In IE8, I am continually having problems with saving passwords to sites. Opera of course has the Wand, which is (I only now realise) very addictive. I have tried switching off 'protected mode' in IE8, but it does not help. Going to Internet Options and activating "Prompt for Password" also does not help. I have no idea what to do about this. Never had this problem in Chrome.
Scrolling: For some reason, my VX Nano scrolls much smoother in Opera and FF than in IE8. I tried to reset the settings, but it did not help.
General Observations: Web Slices> Did not find it very helpful; Accelerators> Minimally helpful; Can't Skin the thing unlike in Opera (or FF) - but that was to be expected; I also find that the sites that I generally visit using Opera and/ or FF seem somewhat off when using IE8. Something is different in the rendering of the pages. Could this be because IE is more web compliant that either FF or Opera? I doubt it, particularly in the case of Opera.

So, anything good about IE8 from my perspective?

Aside from the novelty factor, I am hardpressed to respond to that question.

I guess, I will go back to using IE only for updates - but then again, with Vista (and Auto Updates) I am not sure I will need it even for that.

All just my personal observations and opinions!

I notic the scrolling lag too.

Passwods - no idea, fingerprints :D (that's where my passwords are stored)

I will use IE for the immediat future - Opera had repaced Firefox but now I may stay with IE8 - Opera has some annoying bugs - like not closing properly - so let's see if I stay with IE8 - I hope I will :D
