Got stuck in the car, now I'm ready to try it out. Some questions first:
1. Does the following stuff get imported from IE7:
Search providers for the search bar
Favorites
Settings
Stored username/password combos
add-ins like flash player
2. Has MS addressed the issue of IE creating corrupted index.dat entries that never clear from history without the use of other programs (like CCleaner?) It's annoying visiting some page on google images once, and then for months after the history has automatically been purged still seeing the massive URL for the image pop up in autocomplete - that was my main problem with IE7/IE6 not counting IE7's habit of eating 100+ MB of RAM ever since I installed Windows Search 4...
3. I've heard people saying Yahoo Mail and Facebook (and many other sites) are broken due to refusal to put the standard modes tag on their pages. Is this true, and if so, is it easily fixed with the compatability button?
Thanks.
EDIT: Two more questions
4. Is there a registry tweak to increase the max connections? I know the default in IE7 was 4, I downloaded a tweak to make it 16 but don't know what the actual registry key was.
5. Can IE8 open .swf files without their being embedded on a page? IE7 originally could not for me, but I found a registry setting to make it able to do so.

Are you SURE about that? NBR uses a cookie to maintain status, so you don't have to login each time.

Exactly! I was about to say that NBR will remember your password if you check that little box which says 'remember me on this computer'...
This is not what I was referring to!
What is surprising is that option to autofill forms and passwords in Internet Options...if it does not work, then why is it there? But since it is there, it must work in some way, the question is how? -
Ah... that's it Gary...
Dang... I think I'm getting a little bit ... "unobservant"... I think I need sleep...
Back on topic.

OK. But that applies to a trusted INTRAnet setup. What about on the internet? I have seen a similar advisory on the MS site also. Gosh I can't remember if IE7 autostored passwords...I am pretty certain it did via Internet Options! -

Well...at least Yahoo Mail is functional!
And, Favs are imported
So, that is at least 2 questions answered!!!

Facebook works great for me.

I meant from IE7...
I think I should just read today... I'm not thinking straight... too tired

Opera, of course. I'll only use Internet Explorer 8 for it's InPrivate feature.lineS of flight said: ↑So, Silas...i can't resist asking you this...what's is gonna be? Opera or IE8?Click to expand... -
InPrivate (aka pr0n mode) still records history in index.dat, just so you know.
-
Come to think of it. Opera is the ONLY major browser that doesn't have private browsing. No doubt that's going to be in Opera's next version.Silas Awaketh said: ↑

While you are browsing, yes, it does. After you quit, it doesn't. This was the first thing that I checked.nemt said: ↑InPrivate (aka pr0n mode) still records history in index.dat, just so you know.Click to expand...

Can someone please test the .swf thing for me? I'll even give you a link to try.
It's a helicopter game. -
Ok, I took your ad-bait, and went to the link you posted, It asked me whether I wanted to open it, or save it, I clicked on Open and got the "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action." prompt.nemt said: ↑Can someone please test the .swf thing for me? Scrolling lag, stuttering seem to major issues for me with IE 8.

IE8 May be in some peoples updates
As for remembering passwords, all I can find is to download a program that will do it, or turn on AutoComplete. -
^Bad link.
IE 8 will appear immediately in WU for those using RC and beta versions. -
ad-bait? I own the domain and have never put an ad anywhere.Silas Awaketh said: ↑Ok, I'll took your ad-bait, and went to the link you posted, It asked me whether I wanted to open it, or save it, I clicked on Open and got the "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action." prompt.Click to expand...
Anyway that shouldn't be happening in any browser, do you have flash player installed? -

OK...I fixed the password saving option...goto Internet Options>Content>AutoComplete>Delete Autocomplete History>check all boxes
Try saving your website password. It worked for me.
Once I confirmed that, I went back to Delete Autocomplete History as mentioned above and checked a few of the bozes that I think are necessary. As of now all passwords are being saved...
The scrolling is horrible though!
EDIT: It seems the password saving on NBR does not work!!!!! Gmail does, Yahoo Mail does NOT, a number of other sites also do work
EDIT 2: IE8 is unusable for me. Scrolling is the clincher! Back to Opera. Oh Well...the enthusiasm was shortlived. Like Silas I will also be using IE8 for the privacy feature only and that too till, I suspect, Opera 10 (assuming that Opera does not mess it up!) -
also can anyone confirms what gets imported from IE7 and what doesn't?

IE8 is utterly slow and near unusable on my (admittedly old) work PC. Only browsers that seem to perform OK on it are chrome and opera so far (cant get firefox to work on it)
-

Seems quick here, no issues with scrolling. One odd thing is the Vista snipping tool is VERY VERY Slooooooooooooow when snipping something in IE8. It is still fast in other apps just slow in IE8. Odd.

This SERIOUSLY fails.
Microsoft seem to have created some hybrid of the trident rendering engine, which now means that pretty much every site is displayed broken in some way?
I have sites that look excellent in IE6, IE7, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, yet are broken in IE8.
How pathetic.
I think Microsoft finally killed off their browser. About time they abandoned it altogether and left it up to third parties.
Epic, epic fail. -

For me, it is on ALL sites...including Google search results and NBR and Yahoo and Wired and Rediff...its a long list! I wonder why though? Question of settings on my part? I don't see how that can be since FF and Opera work just fine with the same settings as did IE7.coolguy said: ↑Scrolling is laggy/ stuttering only with some sites, when using the mouse button (click scroll bar).Click to expand...
Also, what do you mean by 'click scroll bar'? I tend to use the mouse wheel. -

I have so many accelerators. All browers need to steal this idea. And when you search in the search box on amazon and wikipedia and results show with photos, love it!
When will the stupid click sound go away? -

Hey guys...could the jerky scrolling be because of the video card? Can someone who has a powerful dedicated video card share what his/ her experience with scrolling is on IE8? Thanks

I can download the IE8 from Microsoft but the pop windows is not coming which allows to download. I tried different locations but still the same. I have installed IE8 RC1. What seems to be the problem?

The thing is IE8 is supposed to be more compliant to HTTP specs. Can you provide some links where you are seeing this? All places I have viewed thus far seem fine.Captain Fail said: ↑This SERIOUSLY fails.
