only Clevo owners and P870DM1/2/3 will understand this
XTU messes up the fan tables on our laptops so bad they start spinning up randomly even when the system is idle and there is no way to fix it, uninstalling XTU even with a good uninstaller like Revo doesn't help, only a full format and an NVRAM reset (CMOS reset) would fix the messed up fan tables.

Should other Clevo owners avoid it? I have the P670 coming this week and someone recommended XTU for undervolting. Should I use something different instead?

Use Throttlestop instead. Clevo Control Center, the program that governs the built-in keyboard's backlighting, includes a version of XTU that can undervolt but suffers from the same problem of messing with the fan tables. I'd normally say skip installing CCC all together, but not having it causes the audio output to cease functioning if you put the computer to sleep and wake it up. The only way to restore proper functionality is to reboot. The only way around it is to install the last version of CCC that didn't include the tuning junk, which is 5.0001.0.50. I don't have a link on-hand, but it's easy enough to find. -

So install the latest CCC which does not include XTU and then use Throttlestop to undervolt the CPU. Got it. It's my first serious laptop so all of this is somewhat unfamiliar.
-
I know undervolting is really popular, but it's truly a shame to waste all of that delicious voltage if you don't have to. As long as your thermals are OK you could just increase all of the multipliers as far as you can with the stock voltage and that's more of a win than undervolting. I like to do more with more, not more with less. As an example with 6700K, most users should be able to set all of their multipliers to 45 and run 100% stable with stock voltage. Some can likely even do 46x4 stable with no change in voltage.

I thought CCC was used for fan profiles, keyboard lights, and other stuff? Or can it be set some other way?

You're right, I use it only for the lights and easy access to change power profiles. @Mr. Fox despises it and wishes the default light was white so he can never need to use it. @Prema please help us to change the default keyboard light in the BIOS to any color we want.Last edited: Oct 4, 2016Mr. Fox likes this. -
@Phoenix the link is for the CCC for P870DM. I have the P670RS-G. Will it make any difference at all? If I were to use Intel XTU on my laptop would it cause a problem with the fan setup? I know people seem to dislike XTU, but as a new person it looks a little friendlier than ThrottleStop.

I recently met a guy here in Dubai who bought a P775DM3 and the integrated XTU worked great to overclock his CPU to 4.4GHz on all cores and maximize the power and current limits. Seems ok with the new models just not with my older P870DM3. On my laptop the overclocking tool wouldn't even appear. Only use the CC meant for your specific laptop model. This is not some general chipset driver that can be installed across diff hardware
I also agree TS is not very friendly, heck it can't even create an automated startup task to run on boot even though I suggested that to the developer. Seems like I am asking too muchmishkasm likes this. -
I wouldn't touch that software. Why use it when TS is a much better choice? Nothing can beat Oc software that almost doesn't use processor cycles!!
You can also tweak latest version of Clevo CC Bloatware so XTU doesn't install.
Undervolt if you can't or don't know how to manage other ways to lower maximum temperatures on your processor(Delid - applying Liquid metal). Some have 10 thumbs or are afraid to do it. I can understand it, but as you (said)... K processors is unlocked. Why not take out the fully potential? You can't run a maxed overclocked i7 with undervolt
And stock voltage can bring your processor up to decent clockspeed

You have the "setupchipset" command on there twice. Is that a mistake?
I ran it with the -overall command, and it seemed to install fine. The driver version is correct in device manger, but it lists a date of 1/1/1970. -

For the first time I have experienced instability on my machine with Windoze X (freezing) after updating to latest Intel Chipset Software. Rolled back and everything is ok. Have seen a similar case here in this forum in the past (can not remember the link). Never experienced this before... Some info regarding chipset software.

@Papusan : You can use Rapr to clear out older INF ***t from Windows Drive Store. Beware incorrectly delete every driver will cause the OS to never Boot up. Note that you need Visual Studio to compile RAPR to get an exe file. If you're interested, please let me know. Anyway there's older version of Rapr as well

Yeah, that's what I said early on, we gotta put up complaints (take a firm stand) about Windows 10 not removing Telemetry from the shipping product way back upon 1st release.
Microsoft with Windows 10 have set and endorsed an industry standard for including background tasks for collecting user information.
And, the best way to lodge a complaint with Microsoft is to hit them in their wallet, to resist the urge to install new shiny Windows 10 OS, realize it was doing a bad thing we don't want to endorse, uninstall the Early Access Developers Edition, and not install the Production Release of Windows 10.
That's what I did from the start. When I heard MS weren't going to removed the controversial at the time "debugging keylogging and activity monitoring" I stopped using the Windows 10 Insider Developer's version even before Production Windows 10 shipped.
Before I install Production Windows 10 on my hardware MS will be forced to (or voluntarily) remove all the tasks collecting process and user activity data, collating that data into reports, and sending that data and those reports back home to Microsoft - to send on to others.
This is something I discovered 20 years ago when building VM's on large iron, the (Solaris then Linux) OS image's each had all of the original monitoring software installed.
Long story short, the same thing can happen on Windows now, with everyone - even the mouse makers - sticking in click and keystroke and activity logging with summary reporting back to the vendor all running resource stealing background processes. Each vendor had their own monitoring to go with their product installs, and it was getting out of hand even on 1 instance of an OS (single OS on metal, and single instance in VM).
When multiplied by 2, 4, 10+ VM instances and more on a single computer, the CPU was fine, but the IO - storage and network - was throttling due to load - the actual work was being interfered with due to all the monitoring and management processes in all of those individual VM's trying to run at the same time.
I had to make special builds stripping away all the vendor monitoring and management, and anything else I could make redundant that would multiply quickly over many VM's, so that the work the VM's were intended to service could get IO bandwidth (Storage and Network).
It made such a huge difference in work throughput we could double or more the number of instances on the hardware - being careful to classify and distribute CPU vs IO intensive VM's across metal.
Pretty soon all of our usage will become 2nd, or 3rd in line behind the OS and App agenda's.
STOP USING WINDOWS 10!!
Move back to Windows 8.1/7, even a few percentage points of migration will send a message to MS - and in turn send a message to the industry we have had enough with the activity monitoring cycle stealing wastage!!
Uninstalling these privacy monitoring invasions will still be needed for Windows 7/8.1 per backward migration of the cruft, but better to do it there and not support Windows 10.Last edited: Jun 8, 2017 -
The main reason for important updates of OS, apps and software... More ****y!!! They hope no one see it coming sneaky installed!! People is stupid!! Very stupid bruh!!! They install the new shiny ****y and forget to check afterwards what they really got. The so called Improvement will only eat more and more clock cycles from your more and more bloated machines hardware. Ticking in the background and log everything you do on your machine. The average Joe will never see what hitting him!! Damn nice!!

LOL... Man, you're always discovering some kind of worthless new bull manure like this, Brother @Phoenix. Good job. However, this is also an excellent example of why I do not change driver versions unless what I am using has a problem of some kind that needs to be fixed. The trend for a few years now has been that newer drivers, firmware and OS versions are worse, not better. It's rare that newer drivers, software or firmware improves performance or adds features that I care about adding. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is wiser and more applicable today than it has ever been at any time I can remember in my entire life. I don't think we have ever seen such a massive proliferation of incompetence and garbage in computer technology. One step forward, two steps backward, seems to be status quo.Vasudev, Spartan@HIDevolution and hmscott like this.

Important note: Before installing this application or requesting technical support from Intel, first contact your system manufacturer. They typically provide software that is specifically configured for your system.
Purpose
Installs the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) driver version 15.7.0.1014 with Intel® Optane™ Memory support.
Contains the standalone Intel Optane Memory pack.
This driver supports RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10. The driver should be installed after the operating system has been installed. F6 and RAID BIOS configurations need to be performed prior to installation of this driver for proper operation. This driver supports NVMe devices.
I installed this on my laptop, tried running a CrystalDiskMark benchmark to see how it does for performance and the benchmark would just freeze along with the entire system.
I don't recommend installing this, at least not for laptops.
Let's stick to the official IRST Drivers that come from the drivers disc for each laptop -
I tested almost every new driver for my skylake, even I observed some random stutters and weird disk usage on stock drivers, so I'm still using Dell ones. OEM ones are more optimized than stock drivers from dell, I think.
Have you tried deleting Windows Driver Store using RAPR before driver update? I always do it. If you have Optane memory you could give it a try. First, uninstall stock driver and reboot. Second, Use RAPR and delete that iAStor driver from intel.
