I just did the firmware flash - is there any need to reformat after it? Everything is working as before except for that optimizer that takes FOREVER to use.

If you want a bit of a sanity check with regards to TRIM, run CrystalDiskInfo. It'll tell you whether TRIM is working or not.

It says it's working (bolded-TRIM). This means it is on right?

As to the firmware upgrade for Intel drivers; it doesn't format the drive but is it recommended you format the drive after the upgrade?

I have an old IBM T60 bought 4-years ago.

I am wondering if I can use my T61 2.5' drive with this laptop?

2.5" is the diagonal of the hdd rectangular case.
9.5mm is the height of the swappable devices, like dvd drive

you can use any 2.5" hdd, don't worry about the height, any notebook hdd will not has a height exceeds that space

2.5" is the width, not the "diagonal."

the UltraBay (where the DVD drive goes) is 10.5mm, not 9.5mm.

some large-capacity 2.5" notebook HDDs are 12.7mm in height and will not fit in the T60.

only 9.5mm 2.5" SATA HDDs will fit.

    yes.

There is a weird circle screw covering the HDD bezel (to remove it so I can pull it the HDD out).

My T61 is a regular screw. Any ideas of what screwdriver I need.

If by "weird circle" you mean one of these, you're going to need an Allen wrench set. Very inexpensive at your local hardware store.

    you're using Windows Vista/7? Right-mouse click/Run As Administrator.

PS: with this method, BootTimer will run everytime your Windows starts. Just uncheck it in msconfig to disable this!

Kingston SSDNow V-Series 30GB Solid State Boot Drive Review

Upgrading from a normal hard drive to a solid state drive can be quite expensive and for most people it really does not make that much sense. Solid state capacities are getting larger, but that just brings the price of the drives up even higher.

Kingston wants to help people out who want to take advantage of the blazing speeds of solid state drives, but don't want to break the bank. They have just released the SSDNow V-Series 30GB solid state boot drive.

This drive will retail at around $100 and will allow you to load your operating system and applications on it for fast load times, and then you can just put all of your media on a normal SATA drive.

This is a great upgrade option for people looking to get a solid state drive, but might not have that much extra money for one.

Except 30GB Agility and 30GB Vertex drives have both dropped under $100 this week alone.
