If it is a Windows 7 serial number from a retail upgrade disk then the answer is YES.

If the serial number is for an upgrade from Vista OEM to Windows 7 OEM from the manufacturer the answer is NO (at least not a straight forward way). I think the following would work but I have not tried it. Perform the Upgrade within Vista using the manufacturers W7 OEM disk, use the ABRbeta program (see a couple of posts back) to save the serial number and Cert. to a external USB drive or disk after the upgrade, then perform a clean install of Windows 7 from the ISO. Use ABRbeta to reinstall the serial and cert. It should work.

I want to install a clean windows 7 Home premium onto my asus g73jh A2. But im worried what might be left out when installing it. I dont want the performance to drop because im missing a program that was previously installed. Will the Driver CD install everything i need? As in turbo boost, sound, etc.

If you perform a Clean install you will have just the Windows 7 Home Premium OS, nothing more. No programs that came with your laptop will be installed of course because they are not on the W7 disk (Retail or OEM). I am not familiar with the Asus Driver CD you reference.

hey sorry...actually i am very curios to do a clean install of windows 7 home premium 64 bit on my acer 5740g...this guide has surely come in handy and i have read through it carefully...but for the last time will someone answer my query ....(pleas understand this situation carefully aand guide in easy steps)

i get an acer in my hand....i switch it on and start using the regular win7 preinstalled n the machine...but i dont like the idea of any bloatware on my pc so i decide to a clean install of win7 on my acer 5740g.....now what i do is...i download abr beta with win 7 supprt...backup the oem and cert keys...etc....then i download the win7 dvd ...and patch it with the efi.cfg..removal tool...and then burn the image...now when i have the dvd in my hand i pop it it....
now the real question is when i start installing or booting the dvd ..and then when it asks me to enter the serial key ,what is that i enter....is it the same key printed on my laptop's back...or some other.....and if its the same key thats printed on the back of the laptop ..then should the win7 install be full complete install or 120 day trial.....but suppose the the thing accepts the serial at the back of the lappy...then is it this moment where i backup the activation key from the files saved on my flash drive ..using the abr program....

sorry for the long post ...but please look into this and help me(keep the answer in small steps)

As long as you installed the same Windows 7 version that came with your laptop, then I think the serial at the bottom of your notebook would work. Otherwise, then maybe you have to follow the OEM method by Prikolchik. I think you have to message him though. Just do that if the OEM Key that came with your laptop doesn't work.

Don't enter anything, just continue with the install and then restore with ABR once windows has booted to the desktop

I am getting ready to do a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium on my new hp dm4. I have a Windows 7 Professional disk that came with my Alienware M17x. Can I use the Windows 7 Professional disk to install the Home Premium version? I have legitimate product codes that came with each laptop. One for the Professional and the other for Home Premium.

Also, I know someone who purchased a new computer and used the product key from his new computer to install Windows 7 on two of his other computers. I am pretty sure it's not legal but I always thought the product key would only work on one computer at a time. He told me you could use the product key on up to three computers. So my next question is... Is he right? Can I use the product key for the Professional version and install it on both of my computers? Is it legal? If it's not, how is he getting away with it?

If it is a retail Windows 7 disk then yes. You would have to copy the files off the disk to a folder on your HD then locate and remove or rename the "ei.cfg" file. I forgot what folder it is in now, possibly the boot folder. You would then re-make a bootable disk from the files in the folder. When booting from the disk a menu will be presented asking what version of Windows 7 you wish to install.

Alternately, you could download the Windows 7 ISO file at the bottom of post 1 in this thread and follow the instructions given there to make such a disk.

Edit: 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows 7 are NOT on the same disk.

The Windows 7 consumer retail disk can legally only be installed on one computer at a time. You can read the license agreement on Microsofts site. I suppose, like with most other software, someone could use a license multiple times, illegally, but eventually that usage will be picked up by Microsoft and all copies will be deactivated. Don't do it!! Illegal practices cannot be discussed further here, it is sufficient to say it is illegal.

No problem. The same key that works for 32bit also works for 64bit.

i tried running the iso and it looks like the 64bit WIn7 is going to be installed but if I put in the 32bit key, does the OS adjust so that the 32 bit is installed?

No, the key is not version dependent (or is that, the version is not Key dependent). The same identical key is used for both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit. For example, I have a retail Windows 7 Professional. It comes with two disks, 32bit version and 64bit version but only 1 Key. The same Key activates either version depending on what version/disk I use for installation.

hey ... I have a small query. In post 1, for the ISO method, there are 2 links to Each version, 32 bit and 64 bit, named Mirror 1 and Mirror 2. I whis to know if there is any difference between the two or is it really ok if I just pick one and go with it ?

^^^^Edit: Either link for each version yields the same file after you run the ei.cfg remover software. "Pick one and go with it".

Ok so I downloaded the 32-bit and 64-bit ISOs twice to verify that what I downloaded was complete and exact. How come the file from either mirrors do not match each other? Their file size are exactly the same, but when you compare them to each other they do not match. This is the same for 32-bit and 64-bit.

the isos are actually different versions, (as in Home Prem, Pro) once you run the ei.cfg remover they become "all versions" discs for their respective bit type

Trying to do a clean install of windows 7 so I can remove all bloatware....

So I have burned the ISO onto a blank disc but when I try running it all that pops up is the program to burn something onto a disc. What am I doing wrong?

I installed WinRAR to read the ISO file, will this help? Or should I simply run the setup file from my extendedSetup folder to install windows?

I am assuming you burned the ISO incorrectly. You want to burn it as a bootable image. You don't use WinRAR at all.

Download the following file from microsoft to make either a bootable USB flash drive or disk from the ISO, it really is one of the easiest ways. https://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool

Read the instructions at the bottom of the first post about downloading and using the ISO file. You should also download and run the ei.cfg removal tool mentioned in those instructions, that way you will have a menu of what version of Windows 7 to install, i.e. Home, Pro, etc.

okay thanks a bunch. I think I also deleted the ei.cfg file correctly (hopefully), it must be I burned the ISO incorrectly.

    Attempting to fix it now.

Edit: nevermind I think I figured out how to configure the bios to boot the DVD on startup.

It will not delete anything unless it said it was going to. Its been a while since I installed Wiin 7 but if you wanted to delete EVERYTHING you should have told it to do a quick format of the HD.

You access the formatting after booting to the Windows 7 DVD then going to the advanced menu. As I said I now forget all options available in that menu but you can figure it out.

That can be an indication of a bad DVD burn or a corrupted ISO download. Also make sure you are using a quality brand DVD (+R is my preference) such as Verbatim, Sony, HP, TDK, etc.

Out of curiosity, if you still have the unpacked ISO from running WinRAR on your laptop, what happens if you run "Setup" in the folder you unpacked it to. You should come up with an upgrade menu. If you don't there is definitely something wrong with the ISO. You will not be able to run "Setup" as I mentioned if you are trying to run the 64bit upgrade from a 32bit OS.

Hi, Im having trouble executing number 1 on the 3 file process. It says that "The application cannot find one of its required files, possibly because it was unable to create it in the folder. Please make sure that the folder in which the application is downloaded is accesible and not read only". Uhm, help?

Edit: I think I may have downloaded the wrong .box file. Hopefully this new download batch would work for me.

Try reburning - you might just have a bad burn (or you could try the iso on an external hdd/flash drive as to not waste a disc, and to confirm that the iso is infact good/bad)

This is the second download. First one I downloaded from mirror 1 and second from mirror 2. I usually use power ISo to burn it but it have been failing. Then I switch to nero and it works but give me the blank screen with both download. Now I'm putting it on a usb to save myself another disc (I used 6 discs already). Lets hope this works.

If your program keeps failing when burning, check the settings and lower the burning speed. Don't burn at full speed.

Unless you are trying to save your current partition layout or data on your HD why not just go to the advanced menu and format your drive so it is completely clean. You should be able to do a quick format to save time.

You did copy the expandedSetup folder to C:\ right?

    You need to enter "C:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com"

    not "C:expandSetup\boot\etfsboot.com"

Hey All, I just recently bought a dell studio 1558 and received it today. I wanted to do a clean install to get rid of the bloatware. I did not receive a Windows 7 disc, so I was wondering if I use ABR to my existing bloated Windows 7 and then once I reformat Windows 7 enter nothing when asked for serial and after its loaded, run ABR and it should be all good?
