I just D/L'ed the 64bit ISO at great speed...
It installed great, but would not activate with the code on my new laptop. Tried the phone thing, and after speaking all the numbers on the screen, I got a message about the user license agreement nt being met or something. So of course it's Sunday - no one to take my call personally.
Anyone else not have a code work (yes, it *IS* legit...) ? I entered it during install... was it supposed to be after the install was completed? I made sure to do the same version as the sticker under the laptop - Home Premium 64bit
-
your code is OEM this is for retail/msdn keys.
-
hopefully a phone call and getting a live person will help then... otherwise, it's back to the tons of bloatware from the recovery disk.Or.. is there a legal OEM download?
-
Once you have it backed up, reinstall from the downloaded disc and restore the activation -
-
This popped up. (see attached image)
Did I do it right?

Now I just have to get this on my usb flash drive and i'm good to go.
Thanks v2.0! -
+rep to the OP and to SwissyJim...the guide is very handy, and SwissyJim's comments about the automated phone activation helped me get through the process without issues.
Well, actually...I first tried clicking on the "Show me other ways to activate" link, and it didn't give me the activate by phone option. I discovered you have to enter your OEM license key first, let it try to online activate you and fail, then it'll give you the option to activate by phone. From there, it was smooth sailing.
Thanks for all the help! -

Does not work. I bought Asus G73JH-A2 Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit preinstalled. Used this installation file to do clean install. Entered the Windows key on backside of my laptop and it still is saying that it is 30 Day trial.
-
If you have, it'll give you an explanation of what to do next. Generally, you'll have to call the 1800 number, but not always.
If you havn't clicked on that ... well, perhaps you should try it. -
Thanks for this thread.
However, when I try to run the Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x64.exe, I get an error message saying it's unable to unload because of missing files. Not sure what that means, I have both setup boxes, and the right versions I'm sure. Nothing happens after that error message. I'm doing this on my XP as admin so I have all the permissions. I attached the error message below.
Another question, I just bought a new computer with Win 7 x64 preinstalled, plus plenty of extra software I don't want. That's why I want to do a clean install. Would the product key on the back of the laptop work for these versions, if I manage to actually create the disc? If so, I also read about programs that can back up your key + activation so when you reinstall you can skip the process. I used the utility from here: http://directedge.us/content/abr-activation-backup-and-restore
However, the key they found didn't match the one on the bottom of my laptop. ??
Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any help. -
The key that the utility retrieves is the general OEM key, not your specific OEM key. The OEMs install one key to all of the notebooks out of the factory, this key then verifies with an SLIC2.1 table in the bios the correct xrm-ms certificate. The backup utilities backup the general OEM key and the xrm-ms certificate file for your OEM (the BIOS obviously stays the same). When you restore, it automatically restores the general OEM key (which IS different from your specific key on the bottom of your laptop) and the certificate which makes it OEM factory activated.
UPDATED OP - added a note about activation since it is causing such confusion -
read my answer below to your first problem that I answered in Nov. of last year in this forum.
Velocity,
remember several people were getting this message last year and I suggested you change the wording of your instructions?
-
Yes, all files are in the same folder, in my D: partition.
deeastman,
I don't get any 'expandedSetup' folder after that error message. I hit the 'OK' in the message and the operation ends there. I even moved the files over to my new laptop w/ Win7 x64 preinstalled to see if it works on that system and I get the same problem. -

What he meant by unlocking everything is that when you run the Windows 7 install disc you get a menu of choices of what version of Windows 7 you want to install (not just the default). Of course you would install only the version that you have a valid SN for but you have a universal Windows 7 install disc in case you come across a valid SN of a different version you wish to install or a friend needs to borrow a disc and has a different version with his own SN.
So in summary, if you are going to burn a disc anyway, why limit yourself to a disc which will only install one version of Windows 7 when you can have a choice.
Do as Velocity said and download the ISO file toward the end of the first post, you will be ahead in the long run. -
I just tried the exe again, and it worked this time. Yay. Burned the iso that was created. Going to test it out to make sure it was created without errors.
Thanks!!! -
Italian Links to download?

Can someone assist me? I have win 7 Prof that came with my laptop but I was not provided a Win 7 DVD for a clean install. I saw this thread and have been trying to download all the 3 files for my version of Win 7 but one of the links do not seem to be working. Its for the Win 7 x64 all versions English.
Of the 3 links given, the link for the setup1.box(the middle link) always gives and error. Can someone confirm that the link is not active anymore?

Thanks so much.
I am really hoping to be able to create my own win7 dvd so that I will be able to do a clean install of the OS on my system using the license key that is printed on the bottom of my laptop without having to purchase a win 7 dvd. -
But, I think you would be ahead of the game to just download the English ISO file located at the bottom of post 1 in this thread. All the work is done for you and all you have to do is burn the ISO image to disk or install it to a USB device to install Windows 7. -
-
Edit: FYI... Successful download completed from the link you had trouble with.
Yes, just download from the ISO download link. -
@mobilezila
did you use a download manager? -
I've downloaded the ISO version and removed the ei.cfg file and burned it to a dvd. However I'm at aloss as to how to start or boot the disk because the only file on the disk is the ISO file. Does the ISO file have to be un-zipped or expanded somehow? HELP!
-
Got it! Used the Microsoft Download Tool and all worked fine.
-
For your future reference, when creating a disk from an ISO you need to burn the ISO as an IMAGE to disk not the ISO file itself, that is where you went wrong. Read the help informaton on the burning program you use about burning an ISO image to disk. -
Just wanted to say thank you to the OP...
I followed the instructions under the ISO METHOD and it worked perfect. I didn't need to reference any of the later posts because the OP has been kept up to date and lists everything necessary in one place.
This will come in handy when my Dell Studio 15 arrives early next week. I expect it to not include the OS install disc media, so my bootable USB flash drive will do the job
Thanks again,
Ben -
how do do i burn it to a CD-R to make an .iso image??
-
I didn't see this in the first post of this thread, but here is the link from the Microsoft store for the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool:
Microsoft Store: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool Help
OP, I would recommend using this link for the Tool instead of the one you provide as they're pretty shady and have too many spam windows. Besides, the file size of the Tool on those file sharing sites are quite smaller than the actual file off the Microsoft site.
Thanks. -
-
Thank you for mixing your 64-bit iso mirrors with different versions... Used DownThemAll with both mirrors and now the file was corrupted...
-
Do I need to insert the ASUS OEM digital certificate and slp product key to activate and register this product? ...or just the key located on the back of my machine?
Thanks -

Question Regarding the Windows 7 disk... Is it possible to include the activator files (abr/win7activator) + the cert/keys directly on windows 7 iso before burning? Without causing problems with the installation?
Has anybody tried this?
I figure when creating a backup of the windows cert/key it would be more efficient to just include it on the windows 7 installation dvd itself. -
-
*my lips are sealed* -
I have successfully created Win7.iso file. Thanks for this post. It is awesome!
Now.. I have a question regarding obtaining a valid product key for Windows 7 Professional.. and wonder if a serial for upgrade (from Vista) would work for the ISO's clean install?
Anybody?
