@pamboys09 - boot it: means to start the computer, in this case from USB or CD/DVD drive to perform the OS installation.
Yes, you can use either the USB stick or DVD method for a clean installation. Both work well and which one you choose is mostly a matter of personal preference. The USB method is particularly well suited for netbooks and tablets that do not have an optical drive. If your USB stick capacity is large enough, you can easily add a folder with all the necessary drivers after you have finished creating the installation media, and that makes the USB method particularly convenient.
Have you ever done this before? If not, there are a lot of helpful people on this forum that can provide links to threads with step-by-step instructions once you have created your installation media. There are a number of threads with this type of support at NBR. What system do you have? There may be a "how to" thread tailored for your particular brand and model, with links to the hardware drivers that your system will need.

now i download the ISO then remove the EIF something... now i burn it with nero burning rom, im i good now?
-
At the bottom of the first post in this thread there are instructions on how to perform the task you are asking about. I would download the "Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool" as it is foolproof in creating the USB flash drive install or DVD. You could probably use nero as long as you do it correctly.
From the bottom of the first post in this thread:
"Finally, burn the ISO, boot it, and install (you can also put it onto a usb flash drive/hard drive using the microsoft tool to save a disc: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool )
The disc created with both methods will act just like a retail Windows 7 disc (can install any version (Ultimate, Pro, Home Premium etc.) but is limited to whichever bit-type (x86 or x64) you download)" -
I just went through the rest of the replies but I don't see the answer. I am also having the same issue. I am looking for C:Win7.iso but can't find it, what am I doing wrong?
-
Never mind I found it. I thought it would be C:Win7.iso like in the command window. For other future newbies that would like to venture out, it was in the System32 file.
-
thanks for the links!

I ran into a problem whilst trying to install Windows 7, and I was hoping you guys would be able to help.
I used the ISO method, and downloaded Windows 7 x64 English through mirror #2. My laptop already had a factory install of Windows 7 Home Premium installed, in Norwegian. I disabled the ei.cfg file using the program in OP's link, then I made a bootable USB flash drive, also using the program in OP's link.
My problem is that there's nowhere for me to decide which version of Windows I want to install. Instead, the installer just assumes that I want Windows 7 Professional, and at the end of the installation, after it prompts me for the CD-key, I get the error message "The product key does not match current windows SKU". I was under the impression that the installer would at some point ask me which version I wanted to install, but this never happened.
What to do? Are the two ISO files in the OP different? I'll obviously try downloading the other one when I can get a hold of another PC with an internet connection, but right now the only PC I have access to doesn't work because I formatted it when installing Windows, only to render it completely useless after being prompted for the CD-key. Is there another way of fixing this? -
You should be able to complete the installation and run Windows for 30 days (longer if you do the Re-Arm trick) without even entering the CD Key or Activating it.
-
It should asking what version you want to install prior before entering your key.
If you didn't get that, most likely you didn't remove ei.cfg off the new image. -
As mentioned by another poster, most likely the ei.cfg file was not deleted. You can find the ei.cfg file in the /sources/ folder on the USB flash drive.
1. Either delete the ei.cfg file manually or rename it to something like ei.bak.
That is all you have to do, then rerun the install. The Windows install will bring up a menu asking which version of windows you want to install. This happens BEFORE windows is actually installed on your PC. -
Is there a simple way to partition a USB drive. I have a 16gb drive I'd like to use to create a bootable w7 but I would also like to have it for storage itself.
If not, should I buy a 4GB or an 8GB for a boot drive? -
Why do you need a separate partition for that? I've always used the same partition for a couple of years now.
-
You can just store whatever you want in that partition, just don't alter any of the windows/installer files. Just make a folder called "Files" (or whatever), dump your files in there and leave everything else as is.
I have a 16gb stick that I use to install Win7, with a folder called "Drivers" where I dump all my drivers/small apps I need to install when the OS is done. -
are these with or without sp1? if it has sp1, can you tell me where can i download window 7 64bit home premium without sp1? thanks a lot

ONE MILLION THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed a pattern with ABR for people who are going to use it. if the system came shipped with windows 7 it will write both the certificate and a key. if you install an oem version of 7 it says successful but doesnt copy certificate only the key.
I always run as administrator and it is the correct version. all im saying is when you use ABR from this thread make sure the certificate is there with the key because it will tell you its successful even if the certificate wasnt found. -
So I made the iso and burned it to a DVD. I took took out my old hard drive and replaced it with a new (empty) one, and set the bios to boot from the DVD drive. However, when I turn it on, it just gives me this:
It's not a problem with my DVD drive; I had to boot the recovery CD last week and it worked fine. What is the issue here? Was I supposed to burn more than just the iso to the DVD? -
Make sure the new Hard Drive has its connector installed correctly (no bent pins) and is making good contact with the connector on the mother board.
Make sure that you don't have any other USB flash devices plugged into your PC. (could be trying to read from them)
Did you use the 3 file method to create the ISO (Method 1) or download the ISO (method 2)?
It sounds like you didn't create a bootable DVD from the ISO. This you have to do, not just copy the ISO or its contents to a DVD. Did you use the Microsoft Tool to create the DVD? or what? I recommend the Microsoft Tool.
Bottom of the first post in this thread: (Finally, burn the ISO, boot it, and install (you can also put it onto a usb flash drive/hard drive using the microsoft tool to save a disc: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool) -
Ah. There's my mistake. The way that was written, it seemed like I would only need that tool if I made a bootable flash drive.
-
Is anyone able to download the ABR tool linked in the original post from directedge.us? No matter what URL I request or what link I click it always takes me to the main page of the site.
-
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Yup, had the same issue. I googled it and downloaded it from somewhere else. -
Use this link here for the ABR software.
-
here i made an executable but make sure the batch is inside c drive NOTE this file starts the downloads for the English 32 bit edition but make sure all the files are in c drive main folder and let this program do the rest enjoy!!!!
NOTE: LIMITATION only works with English 32 bit so far.
copy n paste link below

Just a couple of questions:
Are the links in the OP service pack 1 editions of Win7 (or "the most recent install versions available)?
Can anyone vouch for the backup/restore validation process still working (as the link is to an old 2009 resource)?
Thanks -
I'm not certain whether this thread hosts SP1 versions of Windows 7 but I can confirm that this thread does.
As long you have an OEM preinstalled version of Windows 7 to begin with then yes the ABR Backup Restore software will still work for activating. Use the link I provided not far up from here for the ABR software as the link on the original page seem to be missing. -
Thanks a lot for the link and quick response!!
-
Dear Sir
Please does anyone know whether, in addition to the above downloads for windows seven, there is a link to download windows vista business please. I have a product key but no disk

ABR: I just used 7Token instead, works flawlessly on both x86 and x64. Tried it several times.
Language: Just found out that you can not change langauge on other versions than Ultimate
will try out danish language version i found in another post.
btw: do you know if you can remove the ei.cfg file after you have burned the iso to a flash drive, will that work? -
Yes, just go to /sources and delete it.
You can change languages on other versions with a program called Vistalizator.
I guess you've seen the thread in my thread. -
i believe this link still works:
it's ABR for windows 7 from directedge.usCode:http://directedge.us/files/abr/ABRbeta.exe
-
I've just tried the 3 file method, as described in the steps, and the finalized DVD will not boot with error "BOOTMGR not found"...
As described in the steps, I did get an error during unboxing, but the file count and size matched up as described. Perhaps, file attributes were created but content of the file wasn't?
Anyhow, I'm now trying the ISO method, hopefully it will work. I've bought few used laptops that has keys but no media, and need this to work... -
Just tried the ISO method, same error BOOTMGR missing. I've tried ImgBurn and MagicISO on Memorex DVD+R at 4x write speed.
So far files I've tried are 64bit Eng ISO x15-65733 and 64 bit Eng 3 Files Boxed methods.
Has anyone got these to work recently? -
I believe that it isn't the download files but the way you are burning the files to DVD. You are not making a bootable DVD only a DVD with the files on it. The instructions in the first post under ISO METHOD include a link to the tool on how to create your DVD.
Use this tool to burn your DVD and I think you will be OK.
Microsoft Store Online

I downloaded the X86 version and the ei.cfg remover...removed it, burned ISO to disk and it automatically installs Premium without even giving me the choice of what version I want to install.
Any ideas? -
I did download the tool mentioned in the instruction and followed each steps. I've tried few times without luck. Perhaps, download was bad?
I was able to find X17-24281 and X17-24395 (Pro x64 and Ult x64), they worked fine. -
I'm getting the following error when I run the eicfg remover utility on the ISO I downloaded.
"Error opening or reading the disc image.
Make sure that you have write access, that the disc image is not locked by another application, and that it is uncorrupted."
Any ideas? -
Try using the Microsoft USB/DVD tool mentioned two posts back on the ISO you downloaded and see if it also gives an error message preparing the ISO to burn to DVD/USB. If so, then you have a corrupted download. If not then we can go from there.
-
Edit* Think I've fixed it...
-
I plan on doing the Iso method for 64-bit and was wondering do I download both mirror 1 and 2?
-
It's not clear but Mirror 1 is Home Premium, Mirror 2 is Professional. You only need to download one of the mirrors but I think those links have been superseded, visit this post for a slipstreamed Service Pack 1 ISO version of Windows 7.
-
Yeah, I've never understood why this thread is so popular these days.
-
Stupid question, LOL, but I just want to be 100% positive. When it is stated that you need a Windows 7 key, the key that is on the bottom of the laptop is the one you use correct? Like I do not need to buy another one, right?
-
You are correct
-
How can I install this on a new SSD on my netbook?
-
Your best bet is to use Microsoft USB DVD Tool, just simply download the relevant Windows 7 ISO and follow the easy instructions to create a bootable USB Windows 7 Installer.
-
See the links in my sig if you need some extra help.
-
just wanted to ask , if i use the iso method(x64) to install ultimate edition and then restore my oem(home basic x64) using the ABR tool, will it work ?
