Or be like the cool guys and have that feature turned off that reduces your rights on everything. Its been so long since I have had it on that I do not even remember what it is called anymore.

Edit: UAC is what its called :D

Followed the guide, got the 3 x64 win 7 files. Made the .iso and then used the Windows Store tool to put it on my 8gb Flash Drive.

Installed it and use the Win 7 Ultimate key I got off ebay for $25 and all seems well so far. Have lots of installing to do starting with the basics like drivers and winrar, firefox, etc.

When I am all done before I put any of the huge things on here like games I'll go ahead and use Acronis to make an image of the install.

I got the "unloading the box" error too. I am using WinXp 32-bit and trying to use the exe to unbox Windows 7 32-bit.

If you did not do so, download your files from the links in post 1 and try again. I have done so and did not get any errors. I also did it with the same OS you are using XP 32bit SP3.

The files are not FREE Windows 7 updates. You can download the files for free but you will need a key to activate the install.

If you download the x86 files in post 1 and follow the instructions to create the ISO you will have ALL the 32 bit versions including Ultimate.

    Hi all,

My work has the Windows 7 VLK ISO. Is this any different to the ISO's downloaded from the links provided? I want to install Home Premium (64 bit version) for my laptop with my oem key. If i can use the ISO from work it would save me from downloading.

    Thanks

Hashes created by various users do not match, because some of the files (i.e. expandedSetup\sources\boot.wim and expandedSetup\sources\install.wim) are compiled when the .exe file is run, and thus their timestamp is different from user to user.
To overcome this problem, additional parameter may be added to the oscdimg.exe command:
    -tmm/dd/yyyy,hh:mm:ss
which sets the timestamp of ALL files to the one specified in command line, i.e. -t07/14/2009,02:45:00.
This parameter is taken from the official manual of oscdimg, however in my case it didn't work (probably due to regional settings) and the correct format was: -tmm/dd/yyyy-hh:mm:ss
PS. It is possible that the timezone also affects the timestamp stored in ISO file, but I'm not sure of that.

I can't extract the files, keep saying I'm unauthorized. I unlocked them and made sure I was administrator, and not read-only. I had no problems when I downloaded it when I bought the student edition (trying to get a French iso for my dad). Strange

If the error you are getting is the same as the attachment it is normal when executing a 64bit "Unloading the Box" process on a 32bit OS. The error won't show up if you are "unloading" on a 64bit OS.

The "Unloading the Box" actually completed correctly (without errors) it is just that the final step which automatically begins the Win 7 execution/install cannot execute on a 32bit OS and gives the error which does not convey the real problem in its context. You can proceed to create the ISO from the 'expandedSetup' folder (per the instructions in post #1) and after you boot from either a disk or USB flashdrive which has been imaged from the ISO you will be able to install Windows 7 normally.

You didn't get the the error (or fail) because you "Unloaded the Box" of a x64 version on a 64bit OS :)

An error (or actually an error indication because the final Win 7 install cannot proceed, but no actual unloading error) will always occur when "unloading the box" of ANY x86 (32bit version) on a x64 (64bit) OS. The ISO will still create normally from the 'expandedSetup' folder.

    1. If the expandedSetup folder is on the desktop then your path is incorrect. Make sure your expandedSetup folder is indeed a subfolder directly off the root of C: to use the command in your jpg. (Review step 4 of the instructions in post 1).

You may want to modify the current Step 2 of the instructions in post 1.
....."2. Once you get the 'Install Now' window, close it"

    To something such as:
....."2. Once you get the 'Install Now' window, close it. (Note: If you are "Unloading the Box" from a x64 file download on a 32bit OS you will get an "error window - We are unable to create or save new files....." instead of the "Install Now" window. Just ignore, close it, and continue).

    Okay, I got a question.

Prior to installing 7, my drive from Vista's point of view looks like this:

    Local Disk is (C: ) and I assigned Win7 to (Z: )

But when I load 7 up and look at the drive letters, they change:
    Win7 reassigns itself as (C: ), and Local Disk becomes (D: ).

My question is since they reassign themselves like this, when I am updating Windows 7 with software updates, driver updates, etc., will this mess up anything between the original Local Disk and Win7 locations when I switch back and forth between OS's?

Ok guys please I really need your help on this one. My questions are as follows:

    1) I have an acer timeline 4810t laptop I just got and it came pre-installed with Vista 32bit, it also came configured with 4GB of Ram. So am wondering if I can use this method to upgrade my system from Vista 32bit to a Windows 7 64bit, considering the fact that currently, my system only sees 3GB of Ram?

    2) Can I use the product key from my Vista installation(i.e the one written underneath the laptop) to activate Windows 7?

Please guys help me out, I use a crappy 56k dial-up with download speed of 8 - 10kbs. So am stucked trying to figure out which version of Windows 7(64bit or 32bit) I would spend the next 8 days downloading.

    Thanks :)

    1) you cannot upgrade from 32 bit to 64bit, you have to do a clean install

    2) the vista key will not work, you will need to purchase a windows 7 license

I just want to make sure.
I downloded the Windows 7 64bit, can it do an upgrade installation to my PC with OEM Vista Ultimate?
    Not a full installation.

Does it actually ask you on the installtion process if you just want to upgrade or do a full installation?

Just checking, you do have a Windows 7 product key right? You cannot use this upgrade if you don't.

You are performing an upgrade either way, which is a full product installation. One method is to perform the upgrade from within Vista which you can do but only if your Vista installation is 64bit since you are installing W7 64bit. Your original programs and files will remain intact.

If your Vista installation is 32bit, then you must upgrade by booting from the W7 disk and performing a clean install. You will need to reinstall all your original programs again. You should save all your original files and format the HD with the advanced functions before installation.

If you are installing from within Vista, yes, it will ask if you want to perform an inplace upgrade. I forgot the exact phrase.

Well, you could do a google search on the error code. If you have an Asus PC there is some information here:

I have answered this question in this thread before and requested the OP add it to the instructions but it has not been done.

The answer to your question is in this post in this thread.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5558251&postcount=225

Edit: Follow the instructions steps 1 thru 7 in post 1 to create your ISO. You will not get the "Install Now" in step 2 because you are performing the unload for a 64bit on a 32bit system. Just ignore the error you get and go to step 3.
