Hey all, thanks for your help so far. I'm sure I'm getting closer...
I just went with the CMD prompt and received a Error 5: Access is denied.
I am DEFINITELY logged on as the Administrator... Any ideas?
Cheers

Thanks to Windows XP, running in Admin mode was a breeze.
-
could i make a suggestion?
if anyone could do this (use your already completed iso)
upload to a site the different versions of the full iso so people can just use that (its ok for some of us but the whole porcess seems to be causing alot of people trouble...
and it would be better if they were the unlocked (all versions type)
u would just need a x86 x64 version of each alnguage that way...
so if anyone has the time and download quota to do all this that i think would be awesome... -
That would probably be frowned upon as you can find that on illegal sites. I'd rather put together my own ISO without worrying whether someone put in there some type of malware.
-
that is illegal because nobody is allowed to distribute the os besides microsoft and its partners (digitalriver, which these links are from)
-
The direct ISO download links are out too.
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/...links-ultimate-professional-and-home-premium/ -
ill test these out with the ei.cfg remover, thanks!
-
ok, since this method needs external software, i'm running a poll to gauge how people want to download/make the disc, so please vote
I'll change the guide depending on how people feel about the iso vs 3 files thing
EDIT: never mind, posting both methods soon -
Why a poll for that? Folks can download appropriate editions separately (no need to remove ei.cfg).
-
Besides using it as trial or installer, can i make use of this ISO(made with the links and guide provided here) as backup media/install disc that can be used to repair the operating system on new comp.(which may not be supplied with new system purchase)?
Does using the disc made this way requires other product keys than the one that maybe provided on the COA label on new system? -
what is the stup box1 an box2 for?
EDIT
Just saw the direct download links..... It says it will take 9 Days to download!!!! How do I enable the download manager it talks about in the article.
seems like the 64bit ultimate version is being clogged with downloads... thats why its so slow. -
you can use this disc as a repair disc
you can use the COA keys, but it may be better to use orev's guide that is stickied in the windows forum -
ei.cfg removal also allows home basic and starter to be installed, which are not found as direct isos
-
download the 3 files for the version you want and then follow the guide
-
i just realized that i can post both sets of links in the guide, and that way there will be a back up just in case digital river decides to start changing links like last time
will update on/by thursday EST
EDIT: can a mod confirm that the amazon link (here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/...links-ultimate-professional-and-home-premium/) for ultimate is ok to post here, just making sure -
just tried the amazon download and it is incredibly slow, it has been sitting for 10mins and has yet to start downloading
-
why is it ilegal to post up the iso? these files are the exact smae thing...
anyway the ilegal part is not the software but the license... you can download any of these as trials regardless of licenses.. -
i'm blocked on home premium 64 bit...it keeps on displaying send get....connecting
-
it could be that digital river finally got tired of people directly hot-linking to the downloads and shut them off.
-
but it blocks at 96%..how annoying.
-
i download 64 bit professional in 50 minutes. I got 1.1MB download speed on it.... The ultimate 64 i got like 3.6KB and it said it would take 9 days lol....
-
yes, you'll be greeted with a selected windows version pane.
-
Hey guys,
I'm still stuck on this... Any ideas? Being logged in as the Admin I would have thought I'd have access to everything?!?!?
Cheers -
Being logged in as Administrator is one thing. You also have to right click on the command prompt icon and tell it to "run as administrator".
-
So if I buy Home Premium English version from Best Buy, can I use the key for any version, for example Korean?
-
v3loc1ty2.0,
The Megaupload link for the file oscdimg.exe is no longer valid.
Until the link is fixed the oscding.exe file can be downloaded form the attachment.
Edit:
Link fixed, attachment removed. -
AWESOME MATE! Thanks for that. I feel like a clown but I've never needed to do this stuff before. I'm just desperate to all the HP junk off my new Envy and I figured a clean OS was the way to go.
Hopefully I'll get it onto its own disc with no probs. Thanks again. -
And problem. That was quick ah.
The link to the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool/ISO burning thing doesn't work... I think they moved the file and when I search for it all their links tend back to the dead link....
Once again, any ideas? Anyone have that program?
cheers -
Here is the link mate
http://depositfiles.com/files/g6o7vzqsd
Due to some Licensing issues MS has removed the tool from its site -
Thanks for the heads up, i now uploaded it to sharebee so there are multiple sites hosting it
-
Thanks, fixed this in the guide too (uploaded to sharebee)
P.S. the iso guide is coming soon but is not completed yet due to school work -
Thanks for all your help guys. All worked well once in the end. I haven't tried it yet but everything was successful.
Is there any guide or list of drivers I should download for the Envy before I start again? Just so I don't miss any.
Thanks for this guide v3loc1ty2.0!
Cheers -
Sorry guys, things have come up so looks like the earliest ill be able to put up the direct iso guide is saturday
-
Hey!!
Just curious, will OEM keys work for this? Or will I have to buy another key....
I dont want to go through 20 pages
-
I can't get this file to open, I get a error about check folder properties, I'm running 32 bit but I bought 64 bit. Will this only install on a 64 bit system?
-
It can't open the folder because you are trying to open a 64bit app on a 32bit system. Just burn the ISO to a DVD or install to a USB and boot from that media to install. What you are experiencing is normal.
-
Which file is the iso? I downloaded all three files as instructed in the first post, I use imgburn as well.
-
Reference: Instructions 1-7 in the first post in this thread.
You need to be a bit more specific when you say "I can't get this file to open, I get a error about check folder properties" in your previous post. I assumed (probably incorrectly) that this was at step 2 in the instructions.
If you are getting the error when trying to run the *.exe file from the 3 files you downloaded, right click on each of the downloaded files, one at a time, select properties, and at the bottom of the General tab where it says "Security: This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer <Unblock>, click on Unblock. Run the *.exe file again until you get the "expandedSetup" folder.
With 64bit windows 7 you will get an error at step 2 in the instructions 1-7 (which I thought you were asking about) instead of the install window, just ignore it. The "Install" window can't open because the 64bit instruction cannot be executed from within 32bit windows.
The ISO is created during step 7 of the instructions when you enter the command: oscdimg.exe -bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com -u2 -h -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\Win7.iso
The Win7.iso file is what you will use to create a disk with Imgburn. -
-
Basically, I cannot open the box, I get a error before it even extracts all the files.
-
It should as the key not the media determines what product it is when you try and activate it. With Vista I have used an OEM disc to install and activate a retail version.
-
Sorry you are having such a problem.
The original files that you downloaded are similar to the following, yes?
1. Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x64.exe
2. setup1.box
3. setup2.box
Is the .exe file you keep referring to, item 1 above? Is that the file that gives you the error when expanding the .box files?
So, you never get the expandedSetup folder, is that correct?
If the above is all true, your problem is discussed in the following link:
http://ipwner.net/ipwner/windows-7-unloading-the-box-error
A couple of things you could try is to download another set of the files from post 1, they may be different than the original files you downloaded. Many people have made the iso from those files. Your key will still work.
OR...
Since I don't have a Windows 7 32bit platform to work on I can only suggest you try the following. I know it works from XP, as that is the OS I used to create my ISO's from the English Language files in post 1.
I would suggest the following if all the above is true, for the easiest solution.
Find a friend with either an XP or Windows x64 OS installed on his PC. Copy your 3 files and the oscdimg.exe file to his PC using a USB flash drive or whatever, expand the files, then create the ISO using the oscdimg command.
Copy the ISO back onto your flash drive to archive. Create a DVD from the ISO and you can perform your upgrade by booting from the DVD.
The time to copy all the files to another PC and create the ISO will take less than 30 minutes. -
Yes, I have the expanded setup folder (64 bit) and I'm in the process of going over to a friends house and running this to make a iso.
It easier to make a iso and then boot but no matter what I do, I will do it on a 64 bit system. -
If you had already created the expandedSetup folder, I am really confused as to what *.exe file you were talking about that gave you the error. You should have been able to make the ISO from your PC. Good luck making your ISO on your friends PC.
Remember if you use ImgBurn to create the DVD to select "Write Image File To Disc" and select the ISO you made. Don't use "Write files/folders to disc", that will only copy the ISO directly to the disc not make a disc from the ISO.
Please post back and let us know how it went. -
Thanks. Yeah I did the same thing, except I used a retail version of Vista and used my OEM key
I was wondering if I could do the same with Win7.
So basically, I can use the burned disk and wipe out my new laptop and clean install Win7 using the OEM key on the sticker, I'm assuming... -
I have the Windows 64 bit exe program, the expanded setup folder and setup box 1 and 2. I will update once I burn the iso. -
when i try to put oscdimg.exe -bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com -u2 -h -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\Win7.iso in cmd.exe i get a error
-
And that error message is? Please list the error message exactly.

Those Amazon.com .iso links are ridiculously slow.
-
Yes they are. I tried using the Amazon link so I could download an iso without having to go through any extra steps. After 30 minutes at 12 kbps, I tried the link from this thread and got an average speed of 1.5 MB/s, it took 30 minutes to get the whole file. Creating the iso was really very easy even for this noob.
LEGAL Windows 7 Download Links (Just like Vista before!!!)
