Man, you guys are lucky. At small, private colleges like mine there are no deals whatsoever. We only have links to JourneyEd, which is sort of a rip compared to the prices specified in this thread. Can alumni from Purdue use this discount, or is it only for current students? I happen to know an alumni, so that it would be cool if it would work.

Hmm I go to a UK university and am wondering will the programs only last for the time I am at university or is it a one off unlimited license?
I am under the impression that this offer is only for current students as a (valid?) student card may be asked for to further prove student status (as oppose to e-mail address alone) and that the licence will only last 1-2 years - see the following:
Extended Download Service
Terms and Conditions
1. Extended Download Service - Upon payment of the specified fee, Digital River, Inc. ("DR") agrees to provide you (the "End User") with a service that enables the End User to make multiple downloads of digital computer software products (a "Product" or "Products") purchased in a single order (an "Order") and downloaded from this website (the "Site") for the life of the license (1 or 2 years, as specified in the license agreement) after the End User purchases the Product (the "Service").
If anyone can paste the software/license terms to this offer it would be gratly appreciated - personally I'd rather keep my ~£40 if the license is just 2 years ... -
The offer is for a Perpetual License...so you get to keep it even after you leave. Microsoft does offer a subscription based office download for students but I dont believe that this is offered with the current promotion...
http://www.microsoft.com/education/ultimatesteal.mspx
The ToS seems to be the service aggreement for how long DR will make available the office ultimate software on their servers for users to download. -
The whole thing is on page 2.

My school doesn't give out OS or Office either. They give free OpenOffice links lol and Symantec Antivirus.
Well i should say didn't since i graduated this past summer.
Im tryin to see if i should risk signing up for one of these....cause in their agreement they say if you're found to not be a student, they charge you retail $679 for it. -
I saw this deal last night and was about to buy but I got a quick question. Since the physical copy isnt available, if I download this and then get a new computer at some point would I be able to redownload it and reactivate it as long as I uninstalled it from my old computer? I would think that can be done, but since it is Microsoft I wouldnt put much past them.
-
depends. if you buy the extended download service for $5, you can download it unlimited times for 2 years. if you don't, you only have one shot. but, the 2 .exe files are small enough to fit on 1 cd (each) so you can always just put them on cds and not worry about it.
-
What kind of copy do you get? Is it a retail box? Cost?
-
good price, enjoy
-
does this include OneNote 2007? that's probably the most amazing piece of software i've ever had the pleasure of testing out.
-
OneNote 2007 is included.
-
Just burn it to a DVD or back it up to another hard drive. If you install it on a new computer, give them a call and let them know what's up. I've done this with site licenses in the past, and they're really cool about getting you what you need.
-
If you want to get the CD/DVD, you can get it here:

The "Extended Download" is a waste of money. The trial download is the same as the 'fromal' download which you have paid for. It is the product key that really matters. You can download the trial as many times as you want, at least before the ultimate deal ends next year (04/2008). -
No, I've found Open Office 2.3 to be pretty good and works good enough for university. Actually, my university even has OpenOffice installed so there is absolutely no problems, I don't have to worry about format/print layout at all now. Ex: Sometimes saving a file as .doc in OpenOffice may actually look a little different in Word but it definitely isn't a problem if its installed on both computers.

Just curious, did you use the previous version of OneNote (2003). I hate to admit, I was so disappointed with it I have not even tried the new version. Its been a while but if I remember correctly I had a lot of problems with formatting text in it or maybe it was outlining. Anyway I abandoned it after a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the link!

I have not tried OneNote 2003, but I've used OneNote 2007 a couple times and it's really great. Very intuitive, simple to use. I haven't had any problems with it.
-
Where did this link come from? I do not see any link on the promotion website.

I just purchased this but have yet to receive the email with my license number, how long should take to get it??
-
I got it within a minute.
-
It is from fatwallet.com, where some people contacted microsoft/digitalriver for a CD/DVD copy. And they got this link to do it.
-
I got it within a minute too.
-
You can order the backup dvd for 12 bucks but it takes forever to them to get it to you. I have been waiting over two months...so far nothing.
They only bill the 12 when they ship it. I am not holding my breath. -
Why the HELL did I allow Sony to rob me of $150 for MS Office Home and Student Edition?
-
Wow, such a deal. Is there any way for a non-student to get in on this?
-
Can I legally resell the license if I buy a copy?
-
I found the new UI a but confusing at first, but it is more intuitive overall. It would be much easier for a first time user to navigate than the older versions.
I don't know. You could probably find the answer by reading the EULA or calling Microsoft though. -
Wow, i almost paid 150 for the student version from dell. Dodged a bullet on that one.
Quick question: If you have a laptop and a desktop do you have to buy this twice to have it on both? -
No need to buy 2 licenses. The EULA allows you to install it on a primary desktop and a portable device as long as you are the primary user on both systems.
-
So i can have it on a "primary desktop and a portable device" but not 2 portables or 2 desktops? Just wondering if it discriminates laptops and notebooks.
Thanks -
Well, this is what exactly the EULA says...
It doesnt actually say a desktop but mentions a licensed device and a portable device. The licensed device could be a desktop or a laptop. But the fact that it mentions that you can only install another copy on a portable device implies that the licensed device should be a desktop. Honestly I dont think it matters much unless you want to folow the EULA down to the last word. -
Could a portable device also be an external hard drive, such as a WD Passport?
-
I got a question...so if i buy this I can only install it on two comps a desktop and a laptop but lets say i needed to reformat my computer...would i still be able to install office 2007?
-
You can install it on a external HD but its still going to be tied to the machine it was installed on. A hdd cannot become a PC on its own.
Sure, I have already reinstalled/reactivated mine 3 times. At the very least if it doesnt you will have to activate over the phone. -
When I saw that it read "The ultimate steal" I left that page in a hurry.
-
I hope it's available next year as well... I won't be able to make the April 2008deadline. I'm using Office 2007 Trial right now and it's pretty good. Although, it takes a while to get used to, but it's got better backup services, though it takes longer to load up.

Me too!!! Maybe I'll take some courses this spring just to be safe!

Quick question-Suppose you have an @edu email address, but your not attending that school right now, instead your at a community college that doesn't give out student email addresses. Could you use your @edu address for registration?
EDIT: I have attendance confirmation from both colleges, if that matters. -
Will someone from microsoft really contact you to prove that you are currently enrolled? My edu email is still working. But I graduated in 2005.
-
Is it a retail boxed version or OEM cd?
I graduated in 2006 but my school email still works i think... -
You can buy the CD or download it straight to your hard drive (and save a copy for later) the CD that you buy is an OEM copy that comes in a paper sleeve.
Microsoft has not contacted me at all about my enrollment and I bought the software when the deal first came out.
Hope that helps.
-
So I think I can buy this. Thanks for the info.
-
I ordered this with the DVDs, great deal.

I cant find anything on whether or not online students are eligible. My wife takes college courses online thru University of Phoenix, but I dont know if she has a .edu email address or not. I was going to get Student and Teacher for her and my daughter, but this is a much better deal if she's eligible. Any online students purchased this?
-
I'd imagine online students are allowed as they are considered normal university students, but it might get tricky if she doesn't have a .edu email address.
-
She's got one, and registered. I'll wait until I get home to do the order and download.
-
What's the number of installs allowed on the Ulitmate? I just bought Office 2007, liking it alot (new UI is sweet, albeit purely asthetic) for $120 USD; I went with the Student/Home Edition because of the 3 installs (OEM only allows one); does Ultimate allow more than this?

where can I buy an *.*edu email addy?
-
I have my alumni edu e-mail working. But I am not enrolled. I am trying to be genuine here. I am wondering how MS will contact each and everyone to prove their student enrollment who sign up for this promotion.
