So since the new Fall Update windows causes microlags when I open any application. If i open firefox for instance it would lag for 0.5 second then launch the app, same goes for anything else, apparently this is something lots of people experience.
Anyone got an idea what is causing this mess?
Windows is running on a Samsung Evo 840 SSD 250GB firmware is up to date.
Maybe @Phoenix knows something since he seems to be working a lot on fixes and optimizations.
SSD has been tested, is in good condition and didn't cause microlag when doing the test, so I'm 100% positive it's not the SSD.

Funny how you mention this the same time I was posting this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/windows-10.762434/page-457#post-10668564
This Windows 10 is horrible man with this FCU. The worst build ever! I only realized this when I installed the first build of Windows build 10240 and realized how snappy my computer is. Unfortunately, it was a failed attempt as all the drivers are different.
did you install the latest Samsung NVMe Driver v2.3? Maybe I'll login to your taptop one day and tweak it for you, you will be shocked when you see how many background things I'd disable, like task scheduler stuff, telemetry, feedback, the list can go on forever
Also, did you try this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...xes-index-post-1.779394/page-55#post-10666250Vasudev likes this. -
Currently the Spectre protection is off due to the microcode not being able to support it just yet, since Prema warned haswell users about the fix literally killing CPU's I decided to run without it for now. Yeah I'm aware, the FCU somehow managed to be even worse than the first CU, which is hard in itself. So bravo Microsoft *clap* *clap*Vasudev likes this.

Well the only thing left is for me to tweak your laptop, now I only do this for HIDevolution Gaming Team Members but you're an MSI Gaming Team member so I can make an exception for you since you're my friend. Just let me get out of this mess that I made today by trying to install an earlier build. I will PM you soon *if* you want the tweaks that is.Vasudev likes this. -
Well the hilarious part is actually my MSI notebook doesn't suffer from this issue, It's my Clevo being a troll right now. I can't help but feel, that this is going to be some stupid clevo driver problem.
Also you can try and see what you can do, however my OS is on danish so I doubt you'll have an easy time applying your fixes. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Oh we can figure it out. You will convert yourself into a translator
and teach me Danish
-
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd i figured it out.
Now how I'm supposed to fix this is going to be hiarious. So the reason these microlags happen are because of optimus. Why my system demands to turn the 1060 on for rightclicking my desktop or using firefox will be a complete utter riddle for me which I don't think anybody will be able to figure out.
What the **** Windows. Are you being serious right now. Also why the frigg do you lag when turning my other card on. I'll reinstall the NVIDIA drivers for now.
Once you did the tweaks,I'll try and see how much it actually did compared to "stock".Last edited by a moderator: Jan 21, 2018 -
After doing further research, this optimus bug happened before as well and got fixed by microsoft, windows 10 brought it right back, thank you microsoft for this amazing bug :'D

StormJumper Notebook Virtuoso
If you system isn't set for or has Optimus driver has has a history of sketchy performance.
-
Well no, it's a windows related problem. As you can see on the 2 links I posted a lot of people face this very issue.
It was fixed before Fall update, but apparently came back thanks to microsoft. Tested on external harddrive + windows 7, no lags. -
Every laptop with 1050, 1050Ti and 1060 got the problem when using the latest Fall Creators Update.
I recently sold my Acer VN7-793G because of it. Been waiting months for a proper solution but it seems Microsoft don't care. -
I wish i had more time to mess with Windows 10 and try and figure something out myself. Well this would seem like a challenge to find out what crap is causing it.
@Phoenix
You up for the challenge?
-
Believe me but I've tried everything. All you can do at the moment is forcing external GPU to work whole the time.
Microsoft said the problem is a minor bug so they can't fix it in the nearest future.Vistar Shook likes this. -
Well it is a windows 10 thing, on windows 7 the bug isn't present for me, so I assume it isn't an intel or Nvidia driver thing. And there are some users such as phoenix who spend a abnormal of time trying to fix this half broken mess of an OS. So lets see what is causing this abomination of a bug.hmscott likes this.

I fixed it completely on CU and haven't touch FCU. For me switching to adaptive power management fixed it for me on Optimus.slimmolG likes this.

Didn't work. Sadly.
-
Which laptop specifically? Skylake & pascal OR Haswell & Maxwell?
I tried it on Skylake+Maxwell AND KBL + Pascal. -
haswell + pascal.
-
That's odd combination in a BGA unless you are using LGA/MXM.
Is it 4790K and 1080? -
4940mx + 1060
-
I reckon there's no optimus prime. See if switching to Performance level P1 fixes that micro-stutters. Use nvidia inspector OC button.
-
Sadly no. Still microstuttering like mad.
-
Your nvidia driver version?
-
Tried newest and 2 other versions older than that. On windows 7 no lags with newest drivers.
-
You mean 390.x and 388.x?
Maybe its your SATA driver, I think you need to update it to IRST 14.8 inf install method by downloading this https://mega.nz/#!lcVkxA7J!qbCXQ1V54OiWJghem-KJ3IJXRAhGg-LkbNH0aqwflLk -
No, it's optimus. The dGPU turns itself on for 0.5seconds causing the lags.
since the drivers work fine on windows 7 I'm positive it's windows 10. -
Is it W10 FCU?
-
of course :'D
-
Try this and report back https://github.com/jobeid/TrayPwrD3/raw/master/executable/TrayPwrD3.rar
-
That will work just fine, no need to try it out. I can have inspector running in the background as well, same result.
Battery life dies tho. -
Otherwise you need to configure intel gfx control panel for balanced/perf mode on AC and on battery to prefer max battery.

@Danishblunt
do you want me to tweak your taptop?
-
Go for it if you think u can somehow manage it. As far as I know this bug is there since quite a while and I really don't feel like reading through all kinds of articles and guides to figure out what to disable.Vasudev likes this.

Lets set things right the Phoenix way first, then if you still have the lag, you know it's none of those nasty things in Windows and/or outdated drivers.

@Danishblunt
As a last resort, if even after our tweaks it is still lagging, then try this:
1) Download this and make sure the file is unblocked, then extract it: Intel Graphics Driver v23.20.16.4849
2) Run the latest DDU in Safe Mode and remove the Intel Graphics Driver
3) After the reboot, install the driver above (that's the one I'm using) and rebootVasudev likes this. -
I've found Optimus to be a complete mess in Win10. I had an unremovable fps cap at the screen refresh rate despite ensuring that vsync and fps caps were disabled. This cap only applied to fullscreen 3D, but not windowed (early on most people had problems with the opposite). On later drivers the dGPU would never turn off. It's unfortunate because despite all the flack people used to give Optimus in it's infancy, Optimus was a major improvement in battery life and it ended up working very well come around 2013. Unfortunately its support has gotten worse and worse as time has gone by. The deterioration in support made me hell bent on getting the lone partially complete MXM DP output to operate on my P150EM.
Vistar Shook, hmscott and Vasudev like this. -
Interesting, a friend of mine that has an ivy bridge system has the same odd FPS cap like you do.
@Phoenix Ill seeif it works, thus far lags still present. -
If you're observing this consistently, RS4 will fix that issue. I don't think RS3 will fix it near future.
-
@Danishblunt Did you fix Optimus Prime's stuttering issue?
Vistar Shook likes this. -
-
So after doing some more digging, this seems to be NVIDIA again, talked to a couple of AMD enduro owners, they don't have the issue, meaning intel + windows are not at fault here.
Vasudev likes this. -
Intel+AMD doesn't have any issues.
-
The irony is quite impressive.
-
I mean switchable gfx works correctly.
Well, as a matter of fact I found a way to use Shum rendering options for Optimus flag to MS_HYBRID which forces iGPU to be enabled and turns off nvidia. You can use nvidia inspector to achieve that. dGPU won't wake unless you change it back. -
That's not a solution, since I could achieve the same by simply disabling the nvidia GPU in device manager.
-
This takes off dGPU completely, until you change to Optimus default value.
-
can't find MS hybrid btw.
EDIT: didn't change a thing, still lagged and changed to dGPUVasudev likes this. -
Did you install phoenix's recommended intel driver?
-
Everything up 2 date and recommended drivers, yes. NVIDIA needs to fix this somehow.Vasudev likes this.
