On F@H version 7.1.38 the 555M in my XPS L702X isn't doing any work. I've installed the newest driver from Nvidia, as well as removed/installed F@H. F@H lists the 555M correctly, and says it is running, but HWinfo shows no load on the GPU. Is there something else I need to configure?

 

Try pausing it, and quiting, then go into configure, local client, and hit start. Sometimes my Inspiron 1720 does that.

 

That didn't help, but thank you. I have a separate client going for the GPU until I can figure this out.

The Chief should hit 1,000,000 points here by the end of the night! Insane...

 

Ahh, at least your still getting points. I was noticing that too. He must have a bunch of workstations at his job folding lol. 1 Million club! Almost 1k WU's too!

I was actually hoping to hit the 1 Million already by now

I managed to add a couple of Lenovo T420s at work a few days ago.
I had to install like 3 clients to finally get the NVS 4200 GPUs folding. I'm running like 3 clients each on both systems lol. Not too sure if that even counts towards points. It looks like they are folding properly. The 1st night it folded for some generic name because I didn't check to see if my name was actually being used, + the network is so locked down that I can't dl WU's or send them back out to receive points. So I'm using an external WiFi connection atm. Not ideal but it works.

They have been helping me push out about 60k points a day. However it looks like there was a power outage over the last couple of nights for maintenance so when I got in the wireless internet was down and my WU's were just stuck waiting to send.

The boss is back next week so I've still got a few more days to try and ekk out some bonus points lol!
I tell you I saw like 10 new laptops just sitting there
I was so tempted to plug my USB in and add them to our folding team family LOL
Folding clients should be a part of the MOE and installed on each and every new PC before they are shipped off to the new user lol ahahahaah!

I've also noticed it seems harder to use the latest beta 1.7 client version with Nvidia GPUs. It's just not plug and play unfortunately. Hopefully they release an updated client soon.

Also a guy from work was saying that we can even create our own folding proteins or something to that effect. That way it is much more efficient in processing each unit for points. Not too sure how that works though.

Is there a way to see what the top folding team's score is, or do we just watch ourselves creep up the list?

 

Also, just replaced my heatsink. My system is running better than ever. No more overheating, and I ran wPrime 1024 at 100W TDP for my 940XM (ES) and it maxed out at 92° C. Time to get some folding done! 940XM is in and ready to rock! Also got my 16GB in

Now we've really hit the big time. It's gonna be a real mission to get into the top 1500 let alone the top 1000 teams. We can do it!

I sure would be interested to see how well the PS3 does with folding.

I reckon I might install another client on my M18x system and see if I can run multiple clients on the same machine like that.

Yea, maybe I can convince the wife to get a PS3 at some point. Bad thing is that After replacing my memory and heatsink, now F@H is giving me a quit unexpectedly message. But the thing is it keeps folding. I can see GPU usage still back up to 90%+ usage. And it's also BSODing on me. I'll come back and the system will be restarted. So for now I'm not going to be folding on my 940XM. I hope that will prevent it from restarting. Although when I remoted into my system this morning on my phone, I still had the quit unexpectedly message I may reimage and see if that helps. Only problem is I'm going out of town this weekend so I wanted the system to keep on folding.

 

We have almost cruised through the 1,900's. This is mainly from the chief plowing them out like nobodys buisness. Every WU counts though, just not sure how long I can plow them out even at my lowly rate as the system resources even as set are almost entirely dedicated.

Man DR that is INSANE!!!! 1.7 million points per day. What machines are they running. Man looks like I need to tap into the server room at work then if we are going to compete LOL!

Yea, if we had a way to recruit and not get slapped for spamming the boards it could help. Especially with all the college kids that don't pay thier electric bills

I may have to try another client. Mine keeps saying "stopped unexpectedly" Or quit working or something like that. Not sure what brought this on. Only thing I can think of was adding in the 16GB RAM to my R2.

 

Hmmm strange that. Try and uninstall and delete the data again DR. Hopefully that will pick up the hardware change properly and the SMP WU's can benefit with a bit more ram. I was reading that the bigger WU's (big adv's) seem to like more ram as well.
Hopefully you can get it running back stable again before you leave and go out of town again.

I have a dual gpu setup but it refuses to fold on the gpu so I'm stuck only smp folding on my most powerful rig... Any idea how to fix this?

What GPUs are they?

Have you tried the different and older folding clients?
It seems that some hardware especially the Nvidia GPUs need to make use of the older folding clients to detect and be able to fold.

Try these if you haven't already done so.

Yea, I may ininstall and reinstall. I will uninstall it and reinstall it from my phone when I get in the car. I'm headed out of town immediately after work. At least i'll have my wife driving. Nice to be able to remote into my system from my phone . Hopefully that will solve it, because a few times I came back and my system had blue screened and restarted

Mines running a 580M...doesn´t work with the 7.1.38 client, it needs the 6.41...and has a horrible coil whine while folding...@furmark & benches it´s silent...

 

Hmm, for some reason kakaostats.com page for us is down. I like that page as it has a nice break down and projections. Maybe it will be up soon.

What folding slot options do you guys add? For my ATI gpu's I have client-type advanced and next-unit-percentage 90. for my smp I have client-type bigadv and next-unit-percentage 90. Just wondering if you guys changed them for bigger work units or not. Not sure if it would help.

 

I just changed max packet size on both the CPU and GPU to big. I am not sure if it will help but noticed the WU's seem to be larger. My system is slugish as I have SMP3 and GPU as slots all being at 100%. I tried slowing them down but it really slowed down the WU's.

Not too shabby for this lowly system, over 20,000 points in not even a total of four days yet..............

Edit; maybe short lived but I've managed the top 10 of the team..................

 

Not too sure. I've read that if you can complete the BIG ADV WU units in time you can get up to 70k points for each WU.
I have tried adding the big WU settings however I don't think i've done it right or something because my SMP is just still fetching the usual standard small WU's. It would be great to give it a shot thats for sure.

Hmm I'm not too sure about the coil noise that your GPU makes. Does it still run the folding stable? If so it should be okay. I have heard coil noise before when I used to run Crysis and a few other games. All good though nothing really to worry about. Although it could get annoying I guess to have to listen to it all the time.

What are the settings on your 580M? I'm interested to see how many points it gets for each WU on average? + how many hours does it usually take or show you for each WU to complete?

Yes system runs stable no problems. And YES the noise is annoying!
Since it only runs on the 6.1 client there are no real options...
The current run is 50% done and it shows about 1,5h-2h to go, don`t know if that is slow or fast...

The progression is pretty impressive. Although I will probably have to power off my computer for a week tomorrow, since I will be leaving town and I don't want it to have a problem. It's been folding for 10 days non-stop now

 

Install team viewer on your pc and then on your phone and remote in. That's what i do when Im out of town like now. Remote into all three of my systems. Installed and installed f@h yesterday as my wife drove. All from my phone. And i edited my slots.

It's the 580m and thet 560m. The GPU-Z for them needs to be sent to foldingforum so they can whitelist it for future release. See here. PM 7im there or add it to my thread here and have him add it to the ticket #778 for whitelist. It has (of all things) by default the GPU as the nVidia High-Def Audio driver, so we as testers have to tell them that their list needs a bit of refining for 5xxm users.

b/c my gpu is on F@H 6.41 while the smp is 7.1.38, i turned off GPU folding to free up some resources for the SMP. End result: i folded an extra 7k pts yesterday. I recommend the same for Preya's 580m unless the 580m is so fast it can compensate. IE: no more GPU folding for my NP8130, just SMP until the 560m is recognized in v7

I'm happy to donate 50% of my i7-720qm, though that's probably not much. Thought I could do GPU, but couldn't figure get it to actually limit to 50%, even when the slider was set to it. Can't have my GPU at 100%, it causes everything else to lag on my machine.

50% of my i7? I won't even notice that it's running, aside from the increased fan noise.

 

The slider for GPU is ineffective, it's being worked on for the gold release. As for the CPU resources, there are guides (one by JJB) on how to maximize the performance of any CPU from Core 2 Duo onward. It's a small registry tweak, and then some optimization settings. See here

Thanks for the info. I've got an SSD, so I've been using JJB's tweaks for a long time now. Did a project on 6 threads in 4.5 hours, but... I had the wrong team id entered. Speaking of which:

OP - can you edit your installation spoiler quote to show OUR team ID, instead of 37726 (overclock.net)? I didn't realize that ours was listed at the top of the post until I was halfway through the project and wasn't going to make someone start it over. I'm on the right team now.

Here's how.

v6: right click the little blob icon, and go to configure. Then in the first tab, under user name, but above "passkey" should be some place to enter your team #. Change that to 213698, and all should be good.

v7 open up the control center, click "configure" buton. Click the "identity" tab, and change the team # to 213698. Hit "Save". All should be good.
