why didnt bill gates throw in the ability to save custom power profiles?!
    doesnt it make perfect sense?!
or anyone know how to safe power profiles?! any tweak?!
so that when i reinstall vista i can just load up the saved profiles
    or maybe its only me!
    perhaps its not needed

you can make a custom power profile! click on the battery in the taskbar, then click on "more power options", and in the new window on the left, click on "create a power plan", and you can change all sorts of settings.

Yes. When you are in the clean screen, I check all the file types to find and delete with great results and no problems.

This is true. however I don't know of a way to back up those settings so that you can apply them after a reformat, and I believe that's what he was asking about.

This thread is great...most of the tweaks worked for me. However, a few days ago I disabled TTM, but now every time my computer goes on standby (or sleep) when I wake it up the screen is black. I can log on with my fingerprint, so I know that the computer is there, but the screen is black. Once I log in, I can switch my presentation settings and the screen comes back. I've already turned TTM back on, but can anyone solve this annoying problem for me? TIA.

That problem is common and has nothing to do with TMM. It has to do with the sleep mode. You are going to have to hunt around for the threads as Im not up to snuff on that.

Thanks for the reply, but it occurred only after I switched TTM off. It had never happened before that happened. Any ideas?

I would suggest making sure your vido driver is updated because that was an issue fixed in one of the upgrades I believe. I may have even mentioned that in the tweak...

I'm running nVidia GeForce Go 6150; the latest drivers are installed. This is an odd phenomenon, since I can put the computer into Standby or Hibernate manually and this problem doesn't occur. Only happens when the computer automatically goes to standby. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Some updates appear on the site before they are on windows updates. As i had stated in an earlier post they might be available as soon as this Tuesday or they might be available in 2008.

Because right now it is considered a hot fix. Once it has undergone a bit more rigorous testing it will become part of the Tuesday update cycle. I think Calvin posted a link to a magazine article that indicates it might be as early as tomorrow!

ah. anyhow the hotfix is up, and barring any freakish incidents, should be beneficial to all vista users. I personally have been very lucky when it comes to windows patches and other computer updates, I have heard horror stories. BIOS bricking being the worst and easiest to do.

No...there are two specific large updates that were advertised through MS about a month ago. they are simply known as the performance Update and the other is the reliability Update. They can be downloaded from MS and have their own number assigned.

And now there are some additional ones, posted to MS as hot fixes just recently. The original four you are talking about all made their way to the "patch Tuesday" cycle and are posted as true updates. These new ones are, at this point, ONLY hotfixes. From the article Calvin posted, it looks like in 24 hours or less they too might be part of a "patch Tueday" cycle and available as updates rather than hotfixes.

I just installed vista Premium yesterday and I had 31 updates from MS. Took a good 30 mins to get them.
How to know I got the updates you are taking about?
I have autoupdate disbaled right now and do it once a week or manually.

You didn't get the updates mentioned because they are hotfixes and aren't up on windows update yet. The old ones may be up tommorow though so check back tommorow for those ones.

    HELP!
I did the tunexp for ultra fast booting, and now windows won't boot. It worked fine until then, and I didn't do anything else. (I should add that when I opened tunexp it said error reading memory, but loaded and seemed to work so I let it defragment).

    What to do??

    Thanks.

I am getting this warning everytime I start after I did the UAC tweak.
Is there a way that it does not appear.
    See my attachment.
btw I used the snipping tool to create it :D

If you followed the instructions, you should have waited till defrag was complete by observing your task manager and watching that defrag.exe and ntfsdfrg.exe had dissappeared. Did u do this?

Nest is your restore turned on or off?

I waited until there was 0% process on cpu, for quite a while, and I looked and didn't see defrag working at all afterwards. Perhaps it was waiting for something for a while and was working with 0%, but not more than that. Neither processes.
    Thanks.

I also tried now to put in my Vista recovery DVD and that doesn't load.
I was hoping I could just repair, as I really don't feel like a new install (tons of stuff there).

Not a clue....If you say you saw the process dissappear before u rebooted, specifically those two files, I can't offer a suggestion except to pull out of it if your restore is turned on within Vista.

Try this. Go to that windows security center screen that you took a screenshot of. Click on "Change the way security center alerts me" on the left side. Click "don't notify me, and don't display the icon."

I guess not to load the vista recover CD is quite usual for some systems, perhaps because of BIOS issues (people in different forums say).

Does anyone have any idea what to do now? Anyway to recover Vista?

Hey I've got another question. I've turned TTM off again, and it seems to be ok now with regards to auto sleep. Now I've got a problem with closing the lid of my laptop. Every time I do that and reopen it, the screen never shows and I have to manually switch the display with the switch monitor key for it to show up again. What is going on here?
    TIA.

Im talking to presocratic..and your prob has to do with not having the latest driver installed. it was tackled in the newer drivers.

    Go to:

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/vista

and look at the newer drivers and what they fixed. there are also threads specifically about this on the site...just look for thos with the newer driver discussions Search 'nvidia'

Thanks, wasn't clear to me either who you meant. I assume my restore is on, but I can't get there. I can't boot as it gets stuck immediately in the welcome screen, before booting windows. Also, it doesn't boot the recover dvd (nor another bootable cd I have, nor a bootable external hard drive).

boot into safe mode and then go there

You need to hit the f12 key when the blue dell symbol appears then choose boot device.

No I can't. When I hit F12, (or F2) it moves to a blue screen, but I have no options.

After the defrag I waited for quite a while with 0% on cpu and then restarted as it said to restart. I actually did the tunexp once before (a week or 2 ago) and it worked fine then. I have now UAC turned off.

If it won't boot a cd, then the BIOS is not set to do so. You need to go into the BIOS and make sure the DVD drive is in the list of bootable devices and appears BEFORE the hard drive.

Flamenko is asuming you have a Dell with his last response, is that assumption correct?

After reading the tutorials, I've got a bit of a clarifying question I want to make. Does this mean that I should go to LV2 and download the highest revision number? Cuz I can install the highest driver. Is this what I should do pertaining to my problem? TIA
