No..the highest revision isnt always the one...look at the date.

The date isn't always indicative of the most recent driver either.
-
You must always check the LV2GO forums, they show the newest videodriverupdates there, they messed up the database for drivers on the website a while ago, so best is still to check the forums.
Latest is 163.74.
First download the driver then download the modded .inf for installing the driver. Unpack the driver then replace the original .inf with the modded .inf you just downloaded, that should do the trick -
I think I left the instructions in the tweak above for installation..

Hey flamenko!
I had an issue with desktop heap on Vista. I fixed it and wrote an article about it, and then remembered this thread. Can it be considered as a tweak worth adding?
Read here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=177272
Cheers, and greetings from Zagreb!

Ikovac...Last time we pm'd was when I was telling you how much I missed it there...
I'll look it over k...and get back to you. -
First, thanks for making this very useful thread Flamenko. (rep'd) I'm trying a couple right now and I'm trying to disable the search indexing or whatever but when I hit okay for 'Include subfolders and files' I get an error that says "An error occured in applying attributes to the file: C:\boot\memtest.exe, Access is denied." It gives me the option to Ignore, Ignore All, Try Again (doesn't work), and cancel. What should I do?
-
You can ignore it and it wont affect the usage of the file. Indexing will still be turned off.

Thanks ThomasH,
Schud assisted him through PM. It was a hardware fix, not software. -
Windows updates has updates for me but they aren't the ones we were expecting. Pic:

They will come in time...

I don't know if this has been mentioned but the power settings in Vista are really slick. After 20 minutes of run time I heard my second hard drive clicking, spinning down and starting up again. I thought my drive was starting to fail. Then I realized that Vista was just putting the drive to sleep or at least it was trying.
So I right clicked on the desktop and selected personalize as the option. The I clicked on Screen Saver. It gives you a selection to change power settings as a link on the lower left hand corner of the screen. I chose High Performance because after all it's a gaming rig.
Below each selection there's another link "change plan settings" which brings you to another screen. You can choose when to put the display or computer to sleep. Below that is another link/selection "Change advanced power settings". It will take you to another screen where you can enable or disable your password on wakeup. Below that you can change when the drives are put to sleep. I noticed the default was set to 20 minutes. You can change the minutes to it's maximum of 999,999,999 minutes or you can just type "Never", which never shows as an option. -

hi. i have a problem with
i have three issues...
first issue
disabled the search indexing or whatever but when I hit okay for 'Include subfolders and files' I get an error that says "An error occured in applying attributes to the file: C:\boot\memtest.exe, Access is denied." It gives me the option to Ignore, Ignore All, Try Again (doesn't work), and cancel.
second issue
in the msconfig, when i disable it, it forces me to boot up in selective startup from this point foward. is this correct?
third issue
did this disable my search altogether? i looked for a file right in my desktop folder and it couldn't find it. -
Ignore the first and check the box thats available the next time it advises you thats its booting in Selective Startup.
That occurs whenever you make a change to MSconfig. -
secondly, all the boxes (normal, diagnostic, and selective) when i reboot. if i choose normal, and then reboot, and check the msconfig, the search is not disabled.
third, does this completely remove my searching capabilities? thanks! -
You can ignore all or the first file if you like, it doesnt do anything except change the way Indexing works; all the files still function properly.
Secondly, Im not asking you to check/incheck anything in MSconfig. When you start your computer again, if the warning pops up that it is starting in selective mode, check the available box that says 'dont show this again'.
And no...it simply removes indexing which does nothing but slow most systems in any case.
Oh and as for turning off indexing elsewhere...
I simply go to Control Panel/Indexing and make sure that there is nothing being indexed. if there is I modify by clicking and uncheck it...This will then clear te indexing box so it is off completely. -
thanks a million. For some reason I can't search for anything. If I search for a file on my computer it says no file found. Any suggestions?
-
Did you shut off all the search abilities in your start menu??
Right click star/Properties/customize. i think there are about 4 or 5 different search choices in there which are slow the system so i uncheck them.. See if yours are unchecked and check/uncheck to your requirements.
I have search checked but all else unchecked relating to search and (Dont search for files) checked and my search works fine. -
Well windows is kinda...whack when it comes to file searching, it's not like google. You have to do all lowercase, and you have to put as many letters as you think are in he file, if you don't thin kit's in there, don't put it. it's worked for me.
-
Awsome thread!
-
You can set the windows update to" Never check for updates". Also disable notifications from the security center. Doing this saves a lot of cpu activity (50-100%) immediately after start up. But be sure to check for updates manually atleast once a week. You can get rid of the " updates are available" pop up everytime u start up ur computer.
-
I haven't tackled the updates yet....but security center is the last tweak above. Tx
-
Flamenko, were you able to get anywhere with the getting rid of the time vista takes to open up menus in the start menu?
-
Also, is there anyway I can have the 'Accessories' menu under Programs menu in the start menu like in XP?i have just been using vista since day before yesterday! -
Hello,
Just want to know if there is a software I can COMPLETELY clean my deleted item?
I know when we uninstall or delete an item/s, it's still in our HD somewhere hidding. Anysoftware to completely empty my recycle bin? I using Vista.
Thanks in advance. -
Firewolf....
I choose to do it manually by:
1. a normal uninstall of the program either through its own uninstall or control panel/programs and features. Its own is best as it normally gets rid of registry keys;
2. I then go to c:/program files and ensure the directory is deleted.
3. Easy cleaner as discussed in my tweak will clear the hidden temp file of any remnants; and
4. Ccleaner will clean the registry.
Now thats SCRUBBED!!!! -
-
thanks
got a little confused all the vista things!
-
Thanks flamenko
-
thanks great help
-
does anyone else have problems with vista? I can't burn dvds even though it has a dvd writer.. the program doesn't recognize the files i am trying to burn . and i can't burn 4 gigs . it only lets me burn 1 gig. there must be something wrong with the vista programing because it should allow me to use my dvds full memorie.
-
-
So I did numbers 3 and 6.
6 gave me a prompt in vista to restart to make the changes, and it absolutely murdered my startup time. My processor is still loading vista as I type this and there are sidebar applications missing (never happened to me before). I have no clue what happened here, but I think the search disable really slowed down startup as it can't easily *find* the files as quickly anymore(?).
Yes, I defragment frequently, so that's not the problem. -
Its very odd that those results would occur from indexing itself and, with respect to turning unused features off...did you turn them all off? It almost sounds like you did which I wouldn't advise. Be specific to know what you are shutting off.
For example, I turned off tablet PC once upon a time only to find the Snipping Tool was gone. It took me about a week to realize that this is why it occured.
So, concluding, turning off features may turn unknowingly off some of the things you want most -
I've been following your thread for a while, and it's boosted the performance of my notebook but..
I don't think OpenOffice is really a 'tweak'..
The others are great though. -
No...I agree its not a tweak nor is changing icon size, snipping tools or a few of the others. I felt it was a good inclusion though, one that many will utilize.
-
you are my hero.......
-
Gotta Rep you for that...as soon as I can!!! lol
-
-
Pssst...Cal... When they see your image then click it enlarges it. lol
-
I mean the size in kbs. Like when i take it with prnt scrn it makes a 266kb jpeg, but with snipping tool it makes a 200kb jpeg so i have to do less uploading. Also i have found the quality to be marginally better.

Flamenko,
Thank you for your awesome guide. As I was reading your guide, I realized that I can use USB as a additional ram. I wanted to know if using USB as a ram will improve or speed up the photoshop cs3 and Illustriate because those programs heavily uses ram and hard drive to save temp. files.
Thank you again -
Yes it will speed it up, but only if your current amount of ram is getting maxed out. Otherwise it won't help at all.

open work won't work with microsoft word and other microsoft products right? cause my school uses microsoft stuff. I know this is a stupid question but I just want to be 100% sure
-
Sure will no conversion required. I have been using it on all my Office stuff for 2 days now. Gonna rep ya for that ?.
-
Wait, what? What was his question, and what was your response? I couldn't understand it at all.
-
He wanted to know if it was MS Office compatible. I stated that it was completely and in fact saves in .doc files. There is no conversion/importation necessary between programs.
Im telling you, this free program is EXACTLY like that other program without the name. It even has more stuff. -
Yes, i do agree. Open office has saved me bundles of cash by offering me all the features of MS office, without the huge system requirements, and proprietary junk.
