The funny thing is, this is coming from a Microsoft Partner releasing a tool to stop Micro$h4fts spying/hacking of its users. Thanks to Mr. Fox for drawing my attention to that :D

O&O ShutUp10 means you have full control over which comfort functions under Windows 10 you wish to use, and you decide when the passing on of your data goes too far. Using a very simple interface, you decide how Windows 10 should respect your privacy by deciding which unwanted functions should be deactivated.

    Download Portable Edition = http://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

More control over your operating system
    • Adapt your security settings
    • Protect your privacy
    • Control location services
    • Control Windows Updates
    • Do not pass on your user data and diagnostics
    Further information
Portable Version – no installation required

    Operating System: Windows® Windows 10

    O&O ShutUp10 EULA

    Important Features at a Glance
Windows 10 wants to give users the easiest possible daily experience and in doing so very rarely forces you to actually read and confirm a security notice. Unfortunately, this simplified approach from Microsoft means much more data is passed onto them than many users would like.

Microsoft uses most data to display personalized information to you that is aimed at making your computer life easier. As an example, Windows 10 can remind you to set off to the airport 30 minutes earlier due to traffic en route. In order to deliver this information to you, however, Windows 10 has to access your calendar entries, your mails (i.e. the airline confirmation email), your location and it has to have access to the internet to get traffic news.

Some services protocol your entire keyboard entries, share your WLAN access data with your facebook contacts or connect your computer without asking permission to a public – and potentially unprotected – network. While this means that you and your contacts do not have to grapple with complicated WLAN passwords, it also poses a significant security risk.

Decide for yourself how important your “comfort” is when weighed up with your privacy and how to protect it. O&O ShutUp10 presents you with all important settings in one location – you need no previous IT knowledge and there is no need to manually change the Windows 10 system settings.

O&O ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed – it can be simply run directly and immediately on your PC. And it will not install or download retrospectively unwanted or unnecessary software, like so many other programs do these days!

Problem here is until MS changes their O/S update and fixes this program will be useless again. MS will find a way around O&O and that is a guarantee they will. They just disable it from the Windows Update as usual.

Eventually they may disable the tricks used above their own options. That would stink but by the EULA it is well within their rights. Hopefully they will reverse their ways before then but I doubt it especially as they are trying to soft sell the monitoring they are doing today.

As far as updates, the forced hardware ones just have to go. No ifs, ands or buts about it.

Forced driver updates are my biggest qualm about using Widows 10. For a netbook, tablet, thin and light, whatever it's probably fine because usually you don't tune those devices for peak performance, and drivers are rarely updated anyhow. But for desktop and power users, dammit, give us the option. Beyond me why they can't just implement a toggle switch even if buried in settings somewhere "turn off automatic driver updates". Done.

yeah and that does absolutely nothing. Windows 10 ignores that and the moment you go online it will download all drivers it can find and install them for you, and to make things worse, it will install them all in one shot forgetting the fact that it's best to install one driver then reboot before installing the next. Micro$h4ft thinks it knows best.

it won't happen if you already have the latest drivers, but come the time when there is a driver update and you will see it in action.

As for the driver update hide tool, it's useless, works the first time, but if another update for that same driver comes up, it won't show up in the driver update tool but will show up in Windows Updates and Will get installed. There is simply no reg tweak, group policy editor config, or anything else that will stop Windows 10 from updating the drivers.

Didn't see that setting thanks jaybee. I haven't spent a lot of time with Win 10. Just don't have the time to get caught up in it nonsense right now. I just need stuff to work the way I want them to. Although Windows 10 free update thing keeps ticking me off. Even though I choose to "hide icons and notifications" after some time it still seems to pop back up annoying me. Then I noticed "Win 10 upgrade" popped up in the optional Windows updates. Dammit MS, I DON'T WANT YOUR OS 10!

I am surprised the European Union has not sued Microsoft about their blatant snooping issue with Win10 with they did with Microsoft forcing their Bing browser on people, they were then forced to offer people a choice during Windows setup.

I would prefer it as well but that program suffers from a high CPU usage problem that Spybot has, thus far, refused to fix. O&O seems to remain more committed to keeping their software up to date, and I don't mind running it every once in a while to make sure everything is still in-tact.

I'd ultimately prefer an Operating System I could trust to look after my data and not report my browsing/shopping/any habits back to anyone by default. Having to install 3rd party utilities just to stop this happening is simply wrong IMO. O&O SU10 is a great little piece of software and I do recommend it to anyone who asks me about Windows 10 but I do feel M$ is heading in the wrong direction and as soon as a viable alternative (for me) becomes available I'd happily jump ship. They've had an awful lot of our money in the past and yet they still try every trick in the book to squeeze even more out of us...

    Rant over

    /and relax.

It stayed resident on my Yoga 2 Pro and would eat up 10-20% of one of the CPU cores. Maybe it's an issue with Windows 8.1; I've not tried it on 10.

One of the settings only reverts back to default after the initial Windows updates and it never does that again. I feel O&O ShutUp10 is easier to use, doesn't run in the background which I like, and offers everything under one place in an easy to use way.

Yeah, I hate the Synaptics drivers that bury the controls in the Windows 10 Settings crap app. I want that system tray icon. It sucks when you have to open something else and scroll through a retard's bloated piece of crap UI for something simple like changing touchpad settings.

You get Synaptics settings? All I get is the default Windows options. The only way I can get Synaptics stuff is if I disable I2S(?) and install the standard driver - which is horribly imprecise and lags like crazy on my machine.

Back on topic… hope the driver disabling works this time out. I'm constantly having to roll back my intel gfx driver

On my previous Clevos, their driver version of Synaptics didn't have the dedicated synaptics settings app however on my MSI GT73VR Titan Pro, the Synaptics driver has the full fledged settings menu which is much easier to change settings than the Windows crap

the driver is in this thread if you wanna try it out:

I2C. If you have an SMB touchpad you are using the wrong driver is you are using the I2C driver. That being enabled may be causing a conflict on you system. Perhaps that is the problem.

The documentation on this stuff it poor and I found this out through trial and error. I am not sure what machine you have, but you might want to try using the SMB driver if you are using the I2C touchpad driver and it is not working well for you. Also, be sure you are using the touchpad driver versus clickpad driver because those are not the same device. A clickpad is one of those nasty abortions with no discrete buttons, like what Dell is using on most of their products (Apple wannbe junk). A touchpad is the type with buttons. That documentation is also unclear. If you use the clickpad driver with a touchpad it won't work right and the option to automatically disable it when a mouse is connected will be gone.

I am strictly a mouse guy and absolutely despise using touchpads. I almost never use it except as a last resort... maybe 5 minutes over the course of a year. But, I still want it the way I want it and not how the Redmond Mafia thinks I need to have it.
That is because the driver version Clevo uses is the cancer trash that Micro$loth recommends. The driver version recommended by the Redmond Mafia integrates it with Settings because the P870DM3 has a "Precision Touchpad" (whatever that is supposed to mean). This is one of the reasons I rarely ever use drivers provided by an OEM. I find my own drivers and I'm better off without the "features" they think I need.

@Token CDN - try going here (you'll need IE because the Redmond Nazis will not let you use Chrome) - http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=synaptics

Scroll down to the highlighted driver for SMB. The one above it called "Pointing Device" is I2C. That is the SMB Touchpad driver I am using that gives me the system tray icon instead of burying it in the Settings app.

I have an I2C (or as MS calls it "precision") touchpad - or as you correctly pointed out clickpad (Acer Nitro BE). The smb drivers don't install unless I disable I2C in BIOS, and like I said smb sucks anyways. I'm a mouse guy myself, so I only use the pad when I'm unplugged and away from a desk, but it'd be nice to get the scroll area back (not a fan of 2 finger scrolling - really miss my ancient Toshiba that had a proper scroll wheel - or the other forced MS gestures)

OK, then you may still have the wrong clickpad driver. Scroll through the list and try another one at http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=synaptics

Or, it is possible Acer pulled a Dell on you and used some proprietary piece of junk like an Alps clickpad that only works correctly with their crappy OEM-branded proprietary drivers. My wife's XPS 15 has a clickpad and while the machine is gorgeous and well made, it takes no more than about 3 seconds before I am in a foul mood if I have to use that clickpad abortion. She is used to it now, but she had a hard time putting up with it at first. I never would have accepted it and just used a mouse. It's truly miserable to use the clickpad.

Yup, I hate gestures too. Gestures drive me nuts and I disable all of that garbage. I don't even like to have tapping enabled. That's what buttons are for. Touchpad/clickpad gestures are the computer version of obscene gestures in my book. They suck.

On any device other than a MacBook Pro or Surface Book, yes. It's virtually impossible for me to go back and forth between the trackpads on my Windows devices and work MacBook Pro - the latter is so much better, it's not even in the same galaxy.

Here is one reason why using Windows 10 without O&O ShutUp is a really bad idea. These are the latest published disclosures from the Redmond Mafia. Bear in mind, this is only what they think we have a right to know about want us to know about.

Windows 10, version 1703 Diagnostic Data | TechNet

Windows 10, version 1703 basic level Windows diagnostic events and fields | TechNet

Bottom line: until there is an option to configure zero data collection, Windows 10 will continue to be a joke that requires end user hacking to be a palatable product.
