O&O ShutUp10 - Do not use Windows 10 without it!

You’ll get an yellow notice if some setting have reversed back to default(when you open up to check settings after patch Tuesday etc). Then check show changes and revert to what you applied beforehand.

 

A couple builds ago they fixed the one telemetry setting that required you to disable it twice even if you didn't change any other settings.

Question for those more knowledgeable; Win10 Telemetry, every update this turns back on. During OS installation, the installer asks if you want this feature on or off. Like any sane person, you opt out and have it turned off. O&O reports that its turned on, so you turn it off again. An update comes along and, the **** turns on again. Something crooked is going on here. If we tell Microsoft to turn this feature off, and it spontaneously turns back on again, isn't this a privacy violation or at the very least a violation of the EULA?

I've read the EULA and items 3 & 6 don't explicitly state that Microsoft reserves any right to revert privacy settings following a software update. This seems like class action lawsuit territory if it isn't a bug. So, while I wait for my postcard opt-in from some lawyer somewhere, is there any way to permanently disable telemetry, or is this a "feature" we're stuck with?

 

The only way to truly turn off everything is to use Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC and disable telemetry through group policy editor.

 

Enterprise only? I have access to the group policy editor in Pro too, does that not silence it completely?

Sadly, no. "Disabling" this setting on W10 Pro still sends data. It's funny because in the early days of Windows 10, all versions had full telemetry with no way to completely turn it off. Only when there was a massive outcry among its enterprise clients of the inherent security risks did Microsoft relent and only then just for that particular version of the operating system.

Dell P 5540, Realtek, w10, took a long time to figure out why a present & enabled stereo mix did not receive any audio ...disabling mic (win settings or o&o) also disabled all & any audio to stereo mix.

So the better privacy setting in this case, mic enabled in win settings but disabled in control panel > sound > recording.
